The food has gone up and down in quality over the past 2 years. The restaurant has changed owners and changed chefs twice now. It’s Christmas eve and our fridge died(worst time to do so) and we didn’t have anything to cook for dinner. So, we ordered food tonight from Fortune. The food took a long time to pick up cuz they were insanely busy. They called me back with info about my order and told me that I would receive one of the freebies as my order was over a certain amount. By the time the food got home(10 minute drive) it was cooling. I would have expected it still to be hot. The freebie DIDNOT seem to be with our order. I called the restaurant and gave them my number(by which I placed the order) and they said that when I go in next, I can get that dish for free. The food was quite good, but the prices seem to have increased while the portions reduced in size. After staying away for over a year, we might just give it another try for dining in. Fortune Express used to have fabulous food but the change in chefs several times in the past couple of years has really affected the quality. For now, I have some nice leftovers in our cooler for tomorrow and until we can get our fridge fixed.

I’m coming here for training propose from Hong Kong about 3 weeks. I have been visited more than 10 different Chinese restaurants around town. I can say It is the best one so far I tried. Two people ordered 2 dishes with house soup and rice that cost us about 30CAD included tax. The taste can compare to local Hong Kong restaurant too.

I first tried this place a long back when they first opened. The reason being was a lot of the staff(I presume the owner as well) were once servers at the Yangtze on Somerset. The food itself is good and as it should be expected. I was however disappointed with the portions. Portions were much smaller then what I am used to. Prices are the same so basically with the portions being smaller one can say that it is pricier. Also consider that you’ll end up needing to order one more dish to make up for the lack of food :). Overall the place is clean although I did not have to use the washroom :). Service was nothing to complain about. Not a bad spot in Kanata to consider.

Been eating a fortune express for years and haven’t had it in some time. Someone told me they have new ownership. The experience was terrible! In previous visits for years the food has been plentiful, fresh, and unique tasting. This time it was an entirely different experience. We ordered the dinner for 3 A, plus an order of sweet and sour chicken balls, as well as chicken and brocoli for take-out. When we got home we were shocked at how bad the food was. It wasnt even edible. The sweet and sour chicken balls had almost zero chicken in a big blob of fried dough. Nobody even touched them. The sweet and sour pork had big chunks of fat that I had to spit out. The chicken and brocoli came WITHOUTSAUCE… plain chicken and plain brocoli. THe other dishes in the dinner for 3 were also tastelist. The only thing I enjoyed was the spring rolls which were dripping in fat, yet tasted the best(I wonder why!) When we called back to complain, the guy on the phone hung up on me. In all, this place has gone severely downhill, and nobody in my family plans to go back ever again. Avoid.

30 minutes and still no Shrimp Har Gow or Pork Sui Mai at the Dim Sum service on Sunday morning. Be prepared to wait, that is what the staff will tell you. 45 minutes later, we left with a $ 10 bill for some so so food.

We came by for a Chinese New Year lunch and checked out their menus. They have a daily dim sum menu but not all the items are available at lunch. They also have their regular menu that you can order from. We decided to order a plate of noodles and get some dim sum. — Shanghai noodles were ok — Har gar was gross. My shrimp tasted like it was in the freezer to long and the skin was not nice — Pork dumplings, I’ve had better — BBQ duck was terrible. Barely any meat, not roasted well. — Fried tofu was ok, the tofu tasted fresh — Sticky rice, I’ve had better — Pan fried turnip cake was a small portion but wasn’t fried well and tasted weird… so I added lots of hot sauce.

We’ve only ever had take out from this restaurant after a work colleague recommended that this was a good place to try in Kanata. Although we have not tried a lot of different items on the menu, what we did have was tasty and flavourful. My favorite is the sesame beef. We’ve had a hard time to find good Chinese food in Kanata/Ottawa, and this, in my opinion, was pretty darn good! The portion sizes were OK(whatever happened to those big containers you’d get from takeout? Why is an order of rice in a styrofoam cup? In BC, we would get a huge tin of fried rice for about the same price). Anyways, in summation, we will try Fortune Express again and maybe try some other menu items. I would recommend this restaurant based on our good experiences.

I’m no expert in dim sum so take the review with a grain of salt. As you walk into this restaurant you notice that it is quite dark. The bright sun light from the outside makes the inside look even darker. The décor is decent and the restaurant is spacious. It wasn’t very busy on a saturday afternoon. The service was sub-par, the waiters seemed like they were in a super hurry and some had trouble explaining what the food items were. As it was my first time at a dim sum place, I would have liked some help choosing the items. Even though the place was not busy I had to ask twice for water. However I should mention the food carts came around pretty fast. I was not impressed with the food at all; I’m not familiar with the cuisine so maybe that’s the issue. Essentially I found the food to be bland, the crispy dishes were too oily and the steamed/boiled dishes were too soggy.
