El Capitano Taco Stand

Some members of our jazz band go here on a Monday night after practice. They have a number of craft beers on tap and the «Mini Jug» is an excellent value. Wings are on special on Mondays and I have a mini jug and and order of wings (they are large and delicious) for around 15 (tip not included). No complaints here.
I have also brought my spouse here and she is «picky» however, she enjoyed the food and we have been back and will go back.
We have had the same server every Monday night (N******E), and she remembers what we like, but always confirms… lovely lady.
I only took (1) off because the beer selection although good is at times inconsistent.
If you like going out for a relaxing bite — you can’t go wrong.

Awesome atmosphere, décor and food. Had the Wet Burrito with chicken and it was amazing! Definitely going back!

Went there today at six p. m after a long day of work, had a small lunch at work so I was starving and thirsty for a pint. My first time here, and it was less than half full, I grabbed a table near the front. Waited for the waitress, and waited, and waited. After about two minutesi decided to start my phone’s stopwatch to see how long it will take for the waitress to make it to my table. During that time I noticed there were two waitresses on the floor and two behind the bar, so with that few customers, they shouldn’t be that busy. Nonetheless after my stopwatch hit four minutes (plus the three minutes or so that I waited before initiating the stopwatch) I gave up waiting at the table and chose to sit at the bar instead since there seemed to be two people behind the bar, but I waited at the bar for a really long time without seeing anyone. Eventually a guy with a beard showed up finally but said he would be back in another minute. Waited a while longer and he didn’t come back so I left.
No service! No star!

I have been to El Capitano a handful of times. The food is great. Everything I have tried has been delicious.
The décor and atmosphere is top notch. Great art work, fun furniture, eclectic space.
The people who work here however take this place from 5 stars to 3. It seems like the guys who opened the joint were caught up in the typical «hire the hotties» deal, rather than experienced servers. The girls are nice enough, but are daft at serving. It seems like they’ve never served before, which is all fine and well (we all have to learn somehow), but even a few months after opening they were still screwing up and didn’t seem to notice or even care.
I keep going back hoping the place gets better, but it never does. I only go for the food. If it wasn’t so yummy I’d never even think twice about returning.
I hope the place can last because it’s a fun joint with delicious grub. But it gives off a vibe that it may not be around very long.

The décor is amazing, the staff was nice. We had the tacos, the steak was excellent, the chicken and beef not so much.

Loved the wet burrito! Portion size was just right and the salad was a nice touch that helped cool off the meal. Hot sauces are not the hottest around but that being said I preferred these because each had very distinct flavours that added to the character of the dish.
Since we came in the evening before the live event the ambiance was quiet, intimate with music at a good level allow for dinner conversation. Will definitely go again!

The good:
The décor is awesome and atmosphere is warm.
The menu is extensive with a ton of drink options at reasonable prices (although, $ 10 sangria seems a little high).
The choices in tortillas for the tacos were a nice touch, I opted for the flour tortillas with one steak, one pulled pork and one chicken taco. The steak and pulled pork were phenomenal. The chicken was bland and dry.
The bad:
Quite possibly the worst service I’ve ever experienced at an Ottawa restaurant. Bar none. My girlfriend and I walk in at 2pm, and can’t see a single staff member anywhere. After 3 – 4 minutes a lady comes out from the back and goes behind the bar, whips out her cell phone and starts texting. I say ‘hello’ and she doesn’t hear me. I had to approach the bar and say ‘hello’ again before she noticed us. We were then told to just sit wherever.
The server we had, was utterly useless and unfriendly. From the time she took our drink order, she seemed as if serving us was a burden. She started to take our order and then realized she didn’t have a pen or a pad. We were a table of 2 people and the only other people in the restaurant was a table of 2 finishing up as we sat down. Our food was brought over to us and just dropped on the table without a word said. She then came over a moment later and left us some house hot sauces. While eating I look back and see her standing about four tables over tossing a serving try in the air and catching it. It wasn’t until we were 90% done our meal did she come to check and see if we had needed anything or how the food was.
When the bill came, she asked if we needed the machine and I said no it would be cash. She handed me the bill, roughly 29 dollars (5 tacos, and a draught beer). I pulled out a $ 50 and she snatched it and the receipt out of my hand and walked away without a word. When she came back to the table, she had just rounded the change down to the nearest dollar, and didn’t provide a receipt.
Summary:
I would lime to give this place another try as the steak taco and the pulled pork was phenomenal (my girlfriend had the ground beef and chicken and says the ground beef was incredibly good too), however I am avoiding the chicken, and that same waitress. The service, or lack there of is what left a poor impression on us, not the food.

Fantastic nachos!!! They’re loaded with toppings, the fresh guacamole is delicious and the chips are fresh and don’t get soggy but the time you get to the last ones. Cool atmosphere, decent drink prices (taxes are included in the menu prices). We’ll definitely be back regularly, a nice change to the standard bar/​pub fare. Welcome to the neighborhood El Capitano! :)

A brand new mexican restaurant in Nepean!
To start, the décor in this place is AWESOME. There is a lot of tastefully done graffiti and rustic furniture.
Came here with my boyfriend two days after they had opened and had an amazing time.
I ordered a lime margarita, which was awesome, and he had a corona.
We then ordered a side of mexican spiced fries which were DELISH!
For our entrée we shared the fajitas for two, with steak.
It came with a mound each of sour cream, quacamole, rice, beans, lettuce, salsa, and unlimited tortillas which were nice and warm.
I personally am not a fan of steak, but my SO wanted it so I decided I would try.
…I LOVE STEAK NOW. It was so juicy and as far as I could tell, perfectly cooked!
The food was delicous and SOOOOO filling.
The waitresses were very nice and friendly, and knew the menu very well even though they’d only been working for two nights!
To anyone going out to eat, or looking for some great mexican food, please come here! It is very good :) I will definitely be back!
