Truly delicious cupcakes but the bakery’s long, rectangular boxes are a terrible, unstable design. I’ve bought cupcakes for birthday parties here three times and each time, I get home to discover the frosting has been ruined because the cakes have bounced out of place in their box. Yes, the Cupcake Lounge’s signature boxes are cool and trendy looking but they’re lousy for carrying cupcakes! A simple pastry box with a lid that folds down is the best design — bakers the world over have been using it forever for good reason. Please get better boxes. Three out of three purchases have gone this way for me. I can’t be the only person this happens to.

This is a great place. I would definitely recommend for anyone that wants a cupcake. Costs about three bucks for a cupcake and they are pretty big. They change their flavors everyday and they have a wide assortment of flavors. I went with lemons coconut and Oreo. They were both great and I would recommend them.

A very trendy cupcake place. We ordered a chocolate & peanut butter, vanilla & chocolate and Bailey’s. My favourite was the chocolate & peanut butter because of the big bold flavour. I was very disappointed with the Bailey’s flavour as it tasted nothing like Bailey’s at all. The vanilla with chocolate frosting didn’t really have much flavour and just tasted like sugar. The texture of the cupcakes were perfect as they were fluffy and moist however, I would have liked the frosting to taste less like sugar and more like chocolate/​baileys.
The definitely have a wide variety of cupcake flavours and they have a discount on day-​old cupcakes, which is great.
Not bad overall.

I only got a latte there which was pretty good, but quite small for the price of $ 3.10. I suppose that is standard these days however. The cupcakes looked awesome and the service was very friendly. A great place to stop by in the market. Note seating is very limited but the place has great ambiance to it. Also, note that the stainless steel shaker by the milk and sugar contains cinnamon, and not powdered chocolate like I had thought.

I am a fan of this cupcake place. I have been here many times especially when I was still living in Ottawa. I still visit this place whenever I am in town and in Byward market. They have different flavors depending on the day of the week. I actually prefer Cupcake Lounge more than Prairie Girls in Toronto. The cupcakes are huge, a good amount of icing — not too much, and the cake part of the cupcake is nice and moist. Really good cupcakes here!!!

I recently visited this place and tried their cupcakes and their ice cream sandwiches. The ice cream sandwichs aren’t as fresh and were just ok. However, the cupcakes were very light and tasty. There was also a wide variety of choices as well as discount day old cupcakes. Would visit again

Oh wowwww! They have mosttt amazing cupcakes! I have for quiet some time lived in Europe so I am very particular abt my coffee. But these guys have some amazing coffee as well. I took Oreo cake and its amazingggggg! Must visit for anybody coming to this area. I just wish they sometime in future expand their sitting area

Intention: to grab a half dozen cupcakes to take home and share. Expecting a really high-​quality, perfect cupcake with the $ 3.50−4 we were willing to spend.
What we got: some interesting flavours to share including cookie dough (yes, cookie dough, YUM) — visually, very appealing cupcakes.
The red velvet, an obvious staple and the cupcake I was looking forward to most, was disappointing: the icing, perfect amount of cream cheese and not too sweet. Icing to cake ratio on point. Cake was dry and lacked flavour. Sad. You have to nail this one!
Appreciated the open kitchen and attention to detail when decorating the cupcakes. Makes for a pretty gift.

For what the cupcakes are, it is overpriced. They put way too much frosting, which is sickly sweet. I had to wipe the majority off with a napkin. I’m not that big of a frosting fan, but usually when I’m buying a cupcake from a specialty shop, I expect it to be creamy but still have a light texture with a flavourful, balanced sweetness. That kind of frosting I’m okay with eating (given that it’s in a reasonable portion). The cake itself only amounted to probably a quarter of the cupcake’s overall mass. The cake was average, a little bland. The moistness was okay but slightly too dry for my liking.
All in all, something I would expect a sugar loving house wife to make. I have had so many better cupcakes from cupcake shops, so this was a bit disappointing.

OK. I gave this place 3 tries.
The first time I went, I was really, really disappointed. I went in and the people at the counter were beyond rude. I asked for the red velvet and they handed it to me and put it in a brown paper bag. That right there upset me. A good quality cupcake with good frosting should NOT be in a brown paper bag. It should be in a cupcake take out container. I got into the car, took it out and took a bite. The cake itself was dry and COLD like it had been sitting in the fridge over night drying out. The frosting was hard and not moist and delicious. I was pretty mad I had spent $ 4 on a cupcake I wanted to toss out the window.
I thought maybe I caught them on an off day went back again about a month later. Same deal. Cold dry cake, hard frosting and tossed into a paper bag.
I went back one last time and when I mentioned about the cake being cold and dry I was just given a blank stare and again, it was put into a bag.
Not impressed. I could make a better one from a box and make my own cream cheese frosting.

I have been here twice & I have never been disappointed before. I enjoy each visit and every cupcake that I have had. Also their cupcakes are available at Algonquin College’s bookstore so you can get them in more than one place in the city.

I had no idea — I mean, no one ever told me — but how can you convey in words? — it’s just… — I never knew cupcakes could taste so incredibly deliciously good.
Picture a soft, moist, velvetty, dense yet fluffy piece of chocolatey cake (or whatever flavour you chose) topped with a generous lathering of smooth, sweet, perfectly flavoured cream cheese icing. and then. you get to eat it.
These cupcakes are heaven. absolute heaven.
Moving on from the amazingness of the products in this little store, I have to comment and the adorable décor and great staff. The owner is a smart and lovely woman who you can see most days working behind the counter. All the staff she’s hired are extremely friendly.

Soooooo good. The best? Maybe not, but when you are talking about quality at this level it is definitely relative. The cupcakes are light, moist, and delicious. The icing is not disgustingly sweet — I never feel like I’m going to go into a sugar-​induced coma after eating one of their cupcakes.
Pricey? Sure. But this ain’t no Metro cup cake.
The place is tiny so it is easy to miss, but it also makes it difficult to find good seating. This is a place that you’re more likely to buy-​and-​go. However, I don’t see this as a bad thing at all. Go get cupcakes there. Go now. Stop reading and just go.

This place is wonderful. Their cupcakes are absolutely delicious.
They use real ingredients, such as butter, and flour, without all those disgusting additives like soy extracts.
They don’t overdo the sugar like a lot of places do. So you can eat the whole cupcake without feeling sick afterwards like other places where one cupcake has 100g of sugar in it.
It is kind of pricey, but compared to other cupcake stores in the city, I found this to be one of the cheaper one, and the quality was much better.
Make sure to bring cash when you go there though.

I’m usually fairly hesitant to try places in the market and have walked by this place too many times. I decided to stop in with my girlfriend one afternoon and tried one of their Oreo cupcakes. I instantly regretted all the times that I passed this wonderful place by! The cupcakes tasted delicious, light, fluffy, not too sugary and were made with basic ingredients.
Their only catch is they are a bit pricey. They offer day-​old cupcakes at $ 2 each or the freshest ones baked today for $ 3.25. These are probably some of the best cupcakes you will ever try and well worth their cost.

Great place to stop by if you’re at Byward Market. The cupcakes were moist and delicious.

I heard of it through a friend recently while in Ottawa. J was somehow very affectionate about it and so I started to get infected too. So, I agreed immediate when my sis offered to get me a cupcake to celebrate my birthday in advance, well, yes the different in time zone (Singapore) has delayed the day by 12 hours.
We were at the Parliament Hill this morning to do the tour and head down to Byward Market for our cupcake. We were there once and decided to drop by on Tuesday for our all-​time-​fave Matcha Green Tea flavored cupcake. I know I am such a sucker for anything in green tea although green rarely top my choice when comes to apparel, bags etc, it just seldom mark my fashion color.
I’d thought for the worst during lunch time, they may be sold out by the time I reach the bakery shoppe. No crowds. Only 2 ladies were seen eating their cupcakes and sipping leisurely at their coffee at the tall table near the window and another guy chewing down his fave quickly at the little bench table where the merchandise placed.
We almost wanted to sit at the patio but were deterred by the cold breeze and so we have to squeeze ourself to the small tall table behind the 2 ladies. The bakery is more of a take out but there are 2 small tall tables with 2 chairs each and a 4 rattan seats with a round low table at the patio for the sweet toothed who couldn’t wait to pop the cakes into their mouth.
We have been eyeing for Matcha Green Tea cupcake since the week before. Since they baked certain flavours on each day, we marked our weekly calender for Matcha which is only available on every Tuesday. We asked for a combo which comes with a cupcake and a medium size coffee; a choice of Americano or daily brewed for $ 5.35. You saved a bit on that as it will cost u $ 6+ when bought separately. We went for that and have our cupcakes.
The Matcha cupcake is indeed selling like hot cakes! They were running low when we asked and out of stock by the time we left the shop, barely 1 hour. The lady at the cashier was very friendly and polite when I inquired on the combo. The service was unquestionable except for the cupcakes. Somewhat disappointed with the texture, the cake was a bit stiff and dry. The matcha flavour was less noticeable. It reminded me of pound cake and more buttery instead of the green tea scent. The cake wasn’t sweet by nature but more from the cream cheese frosting topping it. The cream cheese was quite smooth but I didn’t enjoy the frosting which left a «sandy» mouth-​feel. In general, I am expecting it to be fluffy but I am happy that the cream cheese frosting wasn’t heavy at all.
I am not sure of other flavours but this Matcha failed to impress me.

I’ve been walking by this place for months and months and never bothered to stop. I had heard lots of good feedback from friends and colleagues so I’ve been wanting to try them out.
Well, the hubby and I went all in and bought a box of 6 this Saturday. I really wish we didnt. These cupcakes are bad. For ¹⁄₅ of $ 100, I was expecting mothereffing Heaven in a waxpaper cup. I feel like for the same amount of money, I could have made at least 10 time this amount and they would have been much better.
I mean, they weren’t all that bad but they weren’t expertly made, that’s for sure. They were all very doughy (in a slightly under baked kind of way), very bland and kinda dry. And I’m just talking about the cake.
While the frosting was very buttery, which is good, it was also very gritty, which is bad. It was also very bland as well, it just was very sweet, too sweet for other flavours to be acknowledged.
We bought 1 red velvet, 1 lemon-​coconut, 1 bourbon-​butterscotch, 1 strawberry and 2 chocolate. We honestly wouldn’t have been able to tell them apart in a blindfolded tasting, except for maybe the chocolate ones.
We won’t go back and our advice to you is: keep on walking by this place, don’t stop; your wallet will be thankful.

Oh yum! Préparez-​vous à avoir une dose de sucre assez importante quand vous mangerez un de leur cupcake (ou deux, ou trois… c’est difficile d’en prendre juste un!) Ils ont un calendrier sur le mur qui vous laisse savoir quelles saveurs sont disponibles à chaque journée de la semaine. Habituellement, il y en a environ 5 – 6 qui reviennent toujours selon le calendrier, et quelques autres d’extra qui changent selon l’humeur, les tendance et probablement les ingrédients disponibles. Comme tout bon cupcake, ils sont moelleux mais se tiennent quand même bien ensemble, donc vous pouvez facilement les partager avec d’autres gens. La manière de mettre la glaçage à une allure originale mais elle est pas mal pratique en plus. Au lieu d’avoir une bouchée avec juste du glaçage, il est fait de manière à pouvoir en profiter à chaque bouchée, même en mangeant le bas du cupcake! À manger sur place ou bien à emmenez à la maison comme dessert.
