Schooner Fish & Chips

If you are dining here for the gluten free fish and chips when you first arrive you are going to be skeptical. It’s not the most prosperous location (if I’m being honest), but don’t turn around and get back in your car just yet.
Despite the location and the shops décor, there is REAL gluten free fish & chips in there…
The server was great she knew her stuff (always a good sign), and the fish and chips were good as well they even go as far as making sure you have separate packages of ketchup, so you don’t have to use the main bottle of ketchup that all the other animals use.
Definitely one of those don’t judge a book by its cover kind of places. Will be back, and would recommend for anyone with celiac or a gluten allergy.

Came to Schooners as we were in the area — heard great things, and the family is glad we stopped by to partake.
We came for the gluten-​free fish and chips, as it is hard to find in London (also the capital of it’s place of it’s origin).
Shout-​out to all celiacs and GF eaters! We try to always support restaurants that make the extra effort to provide gluten-​free options. This was the first time in about 10 years that my wife and son enjoyed a chippie, as they are both celiacs.
Schooners is a take-​out joint, with two little tables, seating four. They had 2 sit down acres game table tops as well, although I forgot to ask if they were functional.
As for the food — Blimey! The verdict was they were the dog’s bollcks! We had the cod, but they also offered the catch of the day as well as halibut.
My better half was happy to see that there was a separate fryer and disinfected area for preparation/​handling of the food. The staff were extremely friendly, and very helpful regarding preparation and ingredients.
They have a separate GF fryer, the batter ingredients come from a GF facility, the tartar sauce is separately packed.
5 stars for their care and consideration!
My wife says they were better than what she remembered as «real» fish and chips.
Tip: call ahead to have the separate GF fryer fired up. It is not typically on until needed.
This likely has become a stopover during our ventures to & from the GTA.
