Mac’s Convenience Stores

There was a time when the only people who bought milk at the convenience store were strippers and others with too much cash, too little sense, and no real desire to work a day job. Convenience store milk was expensive. These days some chains like Mac’s offer the best price on bagged milk around. In this area of North York there are three places to buy cheap milk. Here. The Shoppers at Yonge/​Finch. And the Food Basics north of the Finch station. The Shoppers and Food Basics always have long, depressing lines. The Mac’s here is great for picking up your milk and getting the hell on with your life.
The guys behind the counter are pretty nice and friendly. They like to «sell up» (coffee, lottery tickets) but I’m no sucker. My major grief is their utterly delectable hot dog roller gizmo rarely is stocked with hot dogs. Given they have a couple convenient tables on premises for actually eating, this would make a great place for some cheap, cheap eats. But day in, day out, I walk by this place like some latter day, less slovenly Ignatius J. Reilly, cast my eyes towards the hot dog roller gizmo, and rarely see a single wonderful doggie sizzling away on those piggy greasy rollers.
Never had a bad bag of milk but fans of cheap hot dogs will be in for a world of let down. One day I’ll speak to them about it.
