Description

Specialties

Grace & Dovetail Design redesigns and refinishes used, vintage, and antique furniture, and home décor items. We use various brands of chalk paint, and other natural, eco-friendly finishes. We often add new hardware, appliqués, gilding wax, and other finishing effects to make sure our items are repurposed and upclycled in the most beautiful way possible. Our style is known as Shabby Chic or French Country Style. Find us, and our hand painted creations (including items currently for sale, past projects, and hopefully soon, painting products) on our website.

Also, we offer an alternative, cost effective, substitute to hiring an interior design company called E-Design Consultation. We gather information, via email and telephone consultations (in home for local clients), about your design vision for a room, or rooms, in your home. You are then provided with two to three design ideas, including lists of things to buy (or items you own and may want to keep) to complete your design vision. Materials sourcing and shopping assistance is also available as an add on to the E-Design package. Further, our custom furniture painting is available as an add on to this package, or on it’s own. Have an item you love, but that needs updating or repurposing? We can do it! Just tell us your vision and we will work with you to define this and then create it for you.

History

Established in 2014.

Claire Marcelli, owner of Grace & Dovetail, decided after over ten years of post secondary school, and two beautiful children, that sitting behind a desk wasn’t for her. She missed tapping into her creative core. The paint brushes were calling to her, textiles excited her, and, as every creative person knows, the ideas never stopped coming. Needing to bring some of these ideas to life, she decided to combine it all and make her own business, creating and imagining everyday!

Her education wasn’t in vain, however, as she combined her educational background and degrees (Fine arts, Fashion Design/Marketing, and Business Administration in Entrepreneurial Leadership, Master’s in Counselling Psychology) to create a business that allows creativity to be at the core. Her business background of course is useful in running a small business, and her counselling degree allows amazing communication and collaboration with her clients.

Meet the Business Owner

Claire M.

Business Owner

Claire grew up on Vancouver’s North Shore in a house filled with beautiful artwork, vintage, and antique furniture and home décor items. From the beginning, everyone knew the arts would be her strongest point in life, as it was also her biggest passion. As a child, Claire drew floor plans to houses, not fairies and ponies and typical little girl drawings. These drawings even included the location of furniture in various rooms, etc. During her teen years Claire had her paintings displayed in many local festivals.

As a young adult Claire was expected to attend Emily Carr but chose Fashion Design instead. Once there, she opted after two years, to not complete the full design degree (she loved the design courses, but found the sewing not useful or interesting, she wasn’t planning on sewing clothes, ever), but to switch to Business Administration (Entrepreneurial Leadership).

Today, Claire, is back fulfilling her passion for the arts/design, by repurposing antique and vintage furniture.
