Cute, cozy place with a great selection of craft beer on tap! I stopped in on a curry night and their curry was quite good and portions were good as well. It may be a tad spicy for those who can’t take spice very well. Would definitely come back again!

Very cozy atmosphere, waitress was very attentive and incredibly nice! Bar area was fantastic and I loved the chalkboard wall. Food was very enjoyable, shared a broccoli soup which needed a little more seasoning but was good! Boyfriend got the Shepard’s pie and I got a burger, both were very flavorful and satisfying. Would definitely come back!

Decent food and beer but terrible service. With so much choice for good food in the area, there’s really no good reason to come here.

Gastro pub means something different(read better) in NOTL. My party tried the salad(perfect portion, great dressing), Turkey burger(bit messy but tasty) and the daily fish special(panfried artic char with a spicy purée and artfully plated). Not a garnish left behind between the 3 of us. Plus some sampling of local brews. Definitely will come back!

Stopped in for lunch had the Brewers platter for 2 and the bag o chips… both out of this world. The pâté on the platter has a caramelized top like a crème brûlée. Decadent and delicious. My wife who never eats pâté, went nuts over it. So that says something. The mayo for the fries very tasty with a hint of horseradish… it works!!! And the curried ketchup… fantastic. We had some super local beers with the meal. These guys know what they are doing. Keep up the great work Garrison House.

We were turned away a couple weeks ago! Apparently they don’t seat a group of six. I had eaten here a few times before and the food was pretty good, and discovered my current favourite beer! The black lager from the local brewery up the street, Silversmith. This time we came after a matinée at the Shaw festival. Our family of 6 adults. I was looking forward to take my visiting relatives for dinner here. Not sure why we were turned away. There were tables available and they couldn’t have been reserved, because they don’t take reservations. We suggested putting 2 tables together or we could squeeze into a table for 4. Still we were curtly rejected. Fortunately we were able to get a table at another restaurant nearby with a friendlier, welcoming service. Still feeling shocked and upset about this. PS. At a previous visit there was a table of 8 – 10 behind us celebrating a birthday.

The family was on vacation out of the country and we had NODATA so we had to ask the locals where to go and they suggested The Garrison House. The food was delicious, the Internet was non-existent and the service was sooooo slow. I ordered a garrison house brisket burger, mom got a salad and the sister got a special but I cannot remember what. My hamburger was by far the best out of the three and was probably one of the best hamburgers I have had in my life. Now, what i imagine is that the cows are grass fed and go on six vacations a year because this meat was so delicious and good. Seriously Canada, what do you to with your food? It is delicious and inexpensive. If I were ever in this area I would most def return… just don’t count on the wifi.

NOTL is our second home away from home. It has been 15 years of a love story here and we just love this town. We finally had a chance to stop in after passing it many many times but we have always had our places. So as we are leaving the town to head back home we decide to finally grab a lunch here. So happy we did. The atmosphere was beautiful and friendly. Service was clean and attentive and the food was DELICIOUS! My husband got the burger and amazing fries and I had the chicken salad. He loved his burger and the fries were to die for and my salad was perfect, fresh and flavorful. He also went with a local beer that they had on tap and I believe did a 4 tasting which is great they offer when you are not familiar with a regions craft beers-and we love our craft beers! We will see you again on our wait out on our next visit.

Great service, questionable food. Long story: The Black Lager Rarebit tastes more like mustard than cheese and has a spicy kick to it which didn’t agree with one of my fellow diners. The bread it was served on was more like a toasted bun. The red wine beef curry my husband got made him feel nauseated until he finally fell asleep. And the garlic naan had absolutely no garlic! The house salad was, however, fresh and tasty. And our server was great. The open kitchen is not attractive; some frosted glass over part of the open area would improved the aesthetic. Short story: go for beer/wine and salad if you go at all.

An upscale self described tavern a little west of town in nouveau area. Beer selections good. It was Thursday night so Curry Night. Salads all good. Many meat, chicken, fish choices. Not many meal choices for vegetarians(a few in our group). Chose what was called Welsh Rarebit — beer, cheese, bread, right? What could go wrong? After a rather long wait, out came baguette slices with what tasted like a spicy mustard shmear on it. ??? We asked where was the cheese? They said the cheese had been soaked in the black lager beer. No beer flavor, no cheese or cheese flavor, no cheese sauce. And why spicy? Too spicy for one of my guests, as in inedible. What cookbook did they consult? So no, Welsh rarebit it was not. Innovation is ok, but don’t call it something that is standard tavern fare, or clarify your description. (But my friend was not comped for her meal. They said she might want soup, but alas, no, it was curry, also too spicy for her. Perhaps we should have protested more). Another in our group got the curry beef which had somewhat passable flavor but not what he wanted; mushy rice with a beef stew, that he thought had sat around too long. He was not happy with his choice. Perhaps the burgers and other things are ok, and maybe on another night that’s not Curry Night might be ok. Many reviews are very positive. We are adventurous eaters but the selections did not work for us. If you go, go for the beer, and choose your dinner carefully.

Enjoyed a Mother’s Day lunch here with a group of 7. We could my make a reservation however we showed up at 1:00 on a Saturday and there was no Problem accommodating us. Given the name, and that it is located in historic Niagara on the Lake I was actually expecting it to be in an old house. That name is slightly misleading as it is on the outskirts of town and it’s in a very new build. It’s very modern inside. I enjoyed a Garrison Burger(sans horseradish mayo) along with greens. It was a delicious meal and coupled with a fresh Oast House half pint, it was a good meal.

Venue is beautiful. Service is fast. I had the warm olives and the pickerel along with a crisp local beer. The olives were great, just the right temperature. Beer was nice and cold. The pickerel was something else. My photo doesn’t do it justice. The dish was delicate, flavourful, and colourful. It sat atop a lightly spicy green sauce, and below a beautiful variety of vegetables: arugula, roast red and yellow peppers, purple potatoes and asparagus. Really really nice. This dish wasn’t missing anything, nor could anything have been added to make it better. If the chef is reading this, well done. Garrison is very Charlestonesque. I enjoyed the experience. I want to give it a 4.5, but that’s not an option, so I’ll err in the venue’s favour and settle at a 5-star rating.

It was very oily. Not a fine dining. The curried Naan was tasty but looked like pizza from pizza pizza. Steak was almost like a burger on greasy French fries. Fish was also tasty but generously oily and unhealthy. Not recommended for a fine dining place.

Good quick service. Food was decent. I wouldn’t make a trip just for this place but if your in the area it’s worth the stop to eat.

Had an amazing snack on the patio this afternoon. Overlooks neighbouring vineyards. Beautiful space. Lovely staff. I had the fresh salad bowl and my partner had the garrison house salad. Both were delicious. The shiitake mushrooms were incredible.

This place was a hidden gem, although we did not see a lake, we arrived hungry and tired. The wait staff was friendly, efficient and knowledgable and the food was amazing. Will for sure go back.

While visiting Niagara Falls, we visited the wonderful tour and tasting at the Konzelmann Estate Winery. Afterwards, asking the staff for a dinner recommendation, we were suggested the Garrison House. Our family ordered generously from their menu and everything was delicious and shared around. Their curry, gazpacho soup, corn on the cob, appetizers, beer flights, turkey burger, and chicken were all fantastic!!! I personally ordered their chicken and it was literally the BEST chicken I have EVER tasted — It was so incredibly juicy and flavorful I could have eaten platefuls of it. Their food was so good, we all ordered and ate WAY too much with no regrets

We had a late lunch earlier in the day and arrived at 8PM for a light dinner. We had Welsh Rarebit(very good but a touch spicy for us lighter spice people!), tomato soup special(excellent) and Prince Edward Island Mussels in curry sauce(excellent). The Stratus Milestone red wine was very good with the soup and the mussels. We have had mussels in Belgium, PEI and places at home(Phila., PA area). Victoria was a great waitress who was helpful and knowledgeable about local wines. We ate here twice last year on our annual August visit and the food was great. We highly recommend The Garrison House which was recommended to us last year by the Merlot House, our perennial B&B at Niagara on the Lake.

My wife and I spent out last dinner at the Garrison House which was recommended by Coyotes’ Run winery. We were very happy. The service was great, attentive and put a smile on our face. Food was good, we had the special for the appetizer, a nice chile dip. I then had the Shepard’s Pie, which was great. We had a bottle of wine, and some nice cocktails. Good local place where you can relax. Recommend1

Food was excellent. Try the Vij’s special chicken curry. I hate eating Indian food in restaurants, but this one really stood out and we went back the next day for it! They have a special crème brûlée daily, and we had the pleasure of trying the dulce de leche — yummmmmmmy! Not sure about the stark décor.
