Just a normal ice cream shop…

Stopped by here during the City Sightseeing Niagara Falls tour. Our driver highly recommended this place to us. When you first walk in, you are greeted by a big plastic cow stationed in the center of the room. At the ice cream stations, there are about 15 to 20 different flavors to choose from, all with witty names. You can ask to try some samples. I tried the maple walnut ice cream but the maple was overpowering. The gooey mooey ice cream was pretty good. I can’t remember what I ordered but I was satisfied with my order. My friends and I got two scoops because it was only about dollar more than ordering one scoop. The total for two scoop was around $ 5.85, which I consider to be reasonable since it included waffle cone. The staff here were very friendly. With all the tourists walking in, they were patient with all customers. I do recommend taking some time to walk around the store. They have interesting merchandises.

Friendly fun staff. Awesome homemade ice cream. I would recommend a flavor but it changes so you will have to try several. They have samples and baby cones and scoops. Which is plenty for us.

I’ve probably been here 12 times in the past 2 years. It is always the same. Light-​hearted atmosphere, high quality, premium ice cream, home made waffle cones, a great selection of flavors… its worth the splurge of calories.

I’m surprised this place doesn’t have more reviews. It’s always packed with happy customers. Everything in their store has something to do with cows, whether it’s the names of their ice cream flavors or their hilarious merchandise that is a mashup of pop-​culture references combined with cow puns. You can find some an Insteergram t-​shirt, or posters for Cow of Duty: Moooodern Warfare. The staff here is always very friendly, and I have been back multiple times. On our most recent visit the staff member helping us had been there for 5 years she said, and knew everything you could imagine about the ice cream. It was pretty impressive. The have very interesting flavors that are all great. For those from a bit further north in Ontario, I would compare the quality of their ice cream to the likes of Kawartha. I’ve tried Cow’s Mint Chocolate Chip as well as all 3 of their flavors containing peanut butter cups. All have been amazing. Another plus is that their cones are always very fresh.
With the abundance of great ice cream shops on the strip it’s difficult to choose, but you won’t be disappointed if you go to Cow’s.

One of the best ice cream places in the world. I’ve visited the location in Banff and was pleased to see one in NOTL. This place lived up to the Cows reputation. The peanut butter cup cup was divine, super creamy with lots of yummy chunks!

Awesome. Never had better ice cream. A must go! Went back two times.

Cows belongs to the best ice cream shops in the world according to Tauck World Discovery, reason enough to try the creamery that originated on Prince Edward Island.
Coming here you have the chance to try unusual flavors such as Moo York Cheesecake (sooo good), Wowie Cowie, Fluff and Under. And I promise it is addicting.
Besides, the shop has some great merchandise with hilarious sayings and modified famous brand logos you shouldn’t miss.

It was not the sign that caught my eye walking past Cows, it was the smell! homemade cones were delicious and the ice cream was delicious as well. Service was very friendly.

If Cows is stocking it — you have to try it.
This place is right on the Main St. in Niagara-​on-​the-​Lake — so you can’t really miss the place and is handily close to the Tourism Office and main parking lot for visiting tourists.
The store itself is mostly full of gimmicky terrible pun tees and assorted clothing items that have something to do with Cows and the dairy like — not to mention a massive cow in the front and centre of the store.
But when you come here — you should be all about the ice cream. They have several flavours that are on rotation and if you aren’t sure — they usually are willing to let you sample before you decide.
Line-​wise — it does ebb and flow — but usually you aren’t waiting too long to get service. Downside is that there really isn’t a place to sit down and enjoy your ice cream though.

The World’s Best Ice Cream sign really catches your eye and you feel like a fish on a hook… helpless and about to get served.
Premium ice cream doesn’t even begin to describe it. It is simply D-​E-​LICIOUS! All I have to say is GOOEY MOOEY! WOW! The ice cream is so creamy, sweet, and amazing that it’ll always have you coming back for more. If I didn’t know any better, I would think there is something addictive in it. All the flavors work perfectly together and you get a little bit of everything.
My dad took one spoonful and would not stop talking about it for the rest of the trip. The first thing he did when he got back to the US, figure out any possible way to get some COWS delivered back home. Oh that would be just too good to be true.
Cows is the best ice cream I have ever had. My future will be filled with many sweet dreams of that creamy Cows ice cream. Let the cravings for my Cows addiction begin.

You can’t come to Niagara-​on-​the-​Lake and not have a Cows Ice Cream. Gooey Mooey is delish!

Historical Niagara on the Lake (Heritage Area). Metered and street parking everywhere. Easy hoofing distance from anything worth seeing in the area.

I have a friend who loves cows. She missed out. It would be like her cow mecca. She would have a cow-​gasm. Even I could not deny the drollness of such slogans as «Justin Beefer» and «Mootube.» There is a plastic cow in the middle of the store. It’s name is Bessie. Don’t knock it over.

I was in udder disbelief. 25 $ CAD for a t-​shirt? 7 CAD for a poster? 1 CAD each for a postcard? 5 $ CAD for ice cream? For those type of prices, you better let me milk a cow’s teat into my mouth, Tom Greene style.

The claim that this is the «best ice cream in Canada» is pure cowsh1t. It’s an exaggeration at best. First of all… who actually reads Reader’s Digest? Old people and those that don’t have the attention span to read full articles or books. Secondly — this honor was awarded via a survey of Reader’s Digest readers. Can we trust them? Absolutely not. Third — Tauck awarded them the «best place to get ice cream» in 2008. Fantastic. I noticed nothing better, or worse, about the ice cream that I got here than I can get at the store. I kid you not. Secondly, I’ve had softserve at McDonald’s that’s been WAY better than the stuff in their buckets. And as others have alluded to, half of the buckets were empty. Since I don’t forsee them moving that much product in the spring months, how long have they been sitting there? Anyway — I would classify the oreo cookie and cookie dough ice cream scoops I got as being average if I got it at the store, and not worth the hype for 5 CAD. And +1 on having to weigh the ice cream before you give it to the customers. I’m sure they would be losing tons of $ on each gram that they over-served…maybe they don’t want too many heifers trolling the streets.

Where are these energetic and friendly people that I heard about? Nonexistent. You might say they were in a sour mooooo-​d when I went. Three people working: one that looked like some quasi-​manager who spent more time dusting the shelves than doing anything else, one scooping ice cream who was nice but a little absent minded, and one guy milling around. I used to work retail, ok? And if you got time to lean, you got time to clean. Or hell — make some waffle shells that go inside the cardboard cups. Cause they weren’t doing that either when I went.

As someone who is recently a bit lactose intolerant, ice cream has to be worth the (literal) bellyache if I’m going to have it.
Lemme tell you: Cows was worth the very minor bellyache I had. (Clearly I’m not alone, as it was named «Canada’s best ice cream» by Reader’s Digest, as I was told walking into the store by a display.
Walking into the store, there were all these fun cow-​themed souvenirs (if you love cow puns, these are must-​haves) and a big crowd of people waiting for ice cream.
I usually have little tolerance for lines, but my dad convinced me since it was, after all, «Canada’s best ice cream», and it had been a while since I had let myself have ice cream because of my lactose intolerance.
We waited in line and were greeted by really friendly servers. I got a waffle cone with sprinkles and played if safe with my flavors. From my photo of my cone, it looks like strawberry & chocolate.

The ice cream is soooo ridiculously creamy. This is how ice cream is supposed to feel in your mouth. I could taste strawberry in my pink scoops of bliss, sweet with just the slightest tang (I don’t like it when my fruity flavors are too tart, and this definitely wasn’t too tart at all) and my chocolate was decadently sweet without overdoing it.
It’s a bit pricy and the butterfat content is high (hence the richness, in addition to there not being much air in the ice cream), but I think that as a little indulgence, this really hit the spot. The cow souvenirs are really cheesy (no pun intended) but they’re cute and hey, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it.
Fantastic ice cream well worth the tiny stomachache I had later.

Sweet, thick smell of sugar and waffle cone when I enter Cows on an cool Autumn afternoon.
Not busy at all but unfortunately not many flavours left to choose from and a lot of them are at the end of the bucket. If you love creamy and sweet ice cream, this is the place to go. Cows ice cream are made based on a PEI secret receipe and uses cream with very high butterfat content, 16% which is the standard for premium ice cream. BTW, the price does reflect that.
I am not really into tacky Cow theme souvenirs… but as one know that it is located in a tourist area and someone probably buy that cow moo moo thing.

4.5 stars. Cows is apparently the ‘best ice cream in Canada.’ It sure is damned good. The whole place has a cow theme to it, including lots of t-​shirts, mugs and other souvenirs with cow-​based parodies of things (such as ‘Heifer Hero’, «Moomoolemon’, ‘iCud’ and more).
The servers are friendly, just as an ice cream joint’s servers should be. I got the maple walnut ice cream in a waffle cone (they only have waffle cones) that was partially dipped in chocolate. They also have waffle cones with sprinkles and waffle cones with peanuts. The maple walnut was to die for: super creamy, rich maple flavor with lots of crunchy walnuts. I have to agree with my dad’s sentiment of «I’d sell one of my kids for an endless supply of the stuff» (I just hope he wouldn’t sell me).
So why the deduction of a half star? They nickel and dime you. The prices are a little high, and they actually weigh how much ice cream they give you to make sure they didn’t overscoop. I know a business has to make money but really? Chances are if you give me too much I’ll be more likely to come back! But despite that flaw, definitely go to Cows if you’re in Niagara on the Lake and in need of some frozen flavored cow juice.
