The Lilikoi women’s clothing line has a strong emphasis on hand printed cloth. Each print is an original drawing transferred to a silk screen. The individual prints are used for limited production runs, ensuring the beauty and uniqueness of each piece. The fabric is hand printed at the Lilikoi studio in Nelson, British Columbia.

All cutting, printing, sewing, and design work is done by local Canadian employees who are well paid for their skill.

At Lilikoi we strive for a sustainable future and have brought our commitment to the environment into our design work. We use sustainable fibres such as bamboo and organically grown cotton.

History

Established in 2006.

biography

The word «lilikoi» means passion fruit in Hawaii. To designer Barbara Boswell Schutter «lilikoi» means just that: the fruit of her passion for design. Barbara learned to sew as a child, and has carried the love of these traditions with her all her life. She studied design at KSA in Nelson, BC graduating in 2003. She also studied at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a place whose beauty still finds a way into her work. It was there that she began to conceive of Lilikoi, a women’s clothing line that would bring the abundant beauty of the world around us into the world of fashion.

Barbara is a lover of

wine, great music, vibrant colour, prints, a perfect cup of coffee, turquoise water, her handsome husband and her three gorgeous kids.

Barbara has been working in design since 2005, after graduating from KSA in Nelson BC and the university of Hawaii at Manoa.
