The only thing we overlook is the waterfront! Our amazing property allows us to provide the very best in camping and RV’ing. With 53 acres of forested waterfront, even with 300 sites, it never feels crowded– the sites are spacious with quality amenities (15 or 30 or 50 amp electric, sewer, cable, wi-​fi (most sites), and fabulous clean city water.

This feels like wilderness, yet has all paved roads, all flush toilets, clean, tiled showers, first class laundry, games room, and passionate and intelligent staff with tons of life experiences exploring Vancouver Island. Our Central Island location makes the Living Forest the perfect base camp to see our incredible island.

Onsite you’ll feel close to nature with over 128 bird species, walking trails, fantastic kayaking in the gentle river estuary, swimming in the pristine Nanaimo River mouth, or just kicking back around the campfire.

Family oriented, leashed & quiet pets are welcome. Less than a mile from a shopping center too.

History

Established in 1993.

The Living Forest was the site of a underground coal mining in another generation. Now the forest has matured.

In the early 1990’s the extended LIttlejohn family, already established in the eco tourism business with a boat tour wildlife viewing charter operation, started the construction of the Living Forest Oceanside Campground & RV. To pursue their vision for this special property, layout and construction and servicing was done by the family, long time campers with their own ideas of what they like (and don’t like!) about campgrounds.

Well spaced sites, first class facilities, and well built ‘everything’ characterizes this campground. As the park has grown, additional staff have been hired for the busy summer season, always with the emphasis on personable, intelligent and ‘passionate about camping’ characteristics. French and German language skills are also found behind our caring front desk.

For us it’s not just a business, it’s a way of life. Open year round.

Meet the Manager

David L.

Manager

David has spent his entire adult life working in the outdoor tourism and recreation field, starting with YMCA camps in his youth. During his career he’s been around Vancouver Island by boat, and explored under and over many of it’s well known and also remote scenic wonders.

His passion for Vancouver Island led him to work with his father, who acquired what is now the Living Forest property, to develop a vision for this special property, where the river meets the sea.

David is a high energy guy with more ideas than time, and his commitment and passion for tourism and Vancouver Island has seen him serve in the executive for British Columbia’s Council of Tourism Associations, B.C. Lodging and Campground Association as well as Tourism Nanaimo.

His tireless efforts, along with those of his family, have created a very special camping experience– a place where your family can create your own lifelong memories.
