Delightful old-​school downtown hotel — revisited
Over the past few weeks I had the opportunity to stay here again — as well as at another downtown Montréal hotel — and am happy to say that the Château remains my favorite hotel in Montréal. I’ll admit my opinion may be biased by my fondness of mid-​60s architecture but that is only part of the story. The Château is a traditional full service hotel with a great location, spacious rooms, huge windows with fabulous views, and excellent service — what’s not to like?
The only real update to my previous review is that since my last visit I’ve learned of Montréal’s extensive ‘underground city’ and found it a very convenient way to get to and from the Château on rainy days.

Location location location! If you take the train to Montréal and go to a hockey game, you can have your whole weekend within a four-​block radius. Hotel is older but well cared for and the staff are friendly and accommodating. Not sure who thought the walk-​through massage area was a good idea, however. All in all a great place to stay.

Older hotel, probably built for Expo67. Nice lobby and conference facilities. Larger rooms with well lit bathroom mirrors. Taller hotel means rooms are dark and quiet. Bed wasn’t a pillow top and felt as though it’s springs had sprung. The towels in the gym appeared grungy/​dirty, but may have just been old. The gym equipment looks like it may have been the original equipment with the hotel. No newspapers delivered to rooms. More expensive than many other hotels with fewer amenities. (Eg fairmont provides paper, and turndown service, Hyatt has hot breakfast and evening snack).

Excellent stay here with the family. We are gold category Marriott rewards folks and we’re delighted with an upgrade. The level of service here is remarkably high. They take amazing care of their guests. Amenities were excellent. And the fact that it was connected to the metro and the underground city was a deal maker for us given that we are staying here over the holidays (during a snow storm!)

A classic older Marriott property. Excellent service and location in downtown Montréal. Beautiful views from my room. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. I especially liked the older doorman, he was a funny and friendly guy. Lots of cabs out front. Restaurant was fine for breakfast but over priced. $ 29 and no omelet station or custom dishes would have been perfect at $ 19. Liked the full Starbucks in the lobby. I’d stay here again.

If you are staying over for a Habs game… this is a great spot. Literally a 3 minute walk to the Bell Center. Nothing fancy room wise. Everything was clean, check-​in was efficient, parking and room fees were reasonable. Starbucks on premise is nice also.
Solid 3 stars for location and value

I am a big Marriott fan and frankly I am a bit prejudiced because so many proprieties are very nice. First, the good. Location is excellent with lots of conveniences, Starbucks on property, boutiques, gym. Food in Champlain restaurant is fantastic, good local beers on tap. Staff is top notch. I would stay here again definitely. The bad, rooms need a bit of fine tuning, caulk in bathroom needs to be redone, iron was broken, doorman directed me to a cab that only took cash. Minor stuff.

No complaints from me — great location — the Metro is literally in the basement of the hotel and there is a Starbucks on site as well, in addition to a bar/​restaurant and multiple gift shops.
The front desk staff was very helpful in answering our questions and getting a pizza delivered to our room for late night munchies.
I was impressed at how extensive the Fitness Center was, but thought the equipment was outdated. It was also a bit confusing to get to — from the signs it looks like you have to walk through the spa (which you do) — but that seems confusing and you second guess yourself.
We were on the 29^th floor so we had an amazing view and I thought the rooms were very nice and comfortable.
Would definitely stay here again if I was ever in Montréal.

First off if there was a 2.5 star option I would have selected that… As a Marroitt Platinum Elite member and a (lifetime silver member) with over 150 nights so far this this year I expected a little more… Overall the staff was okay and the room was overall acceptable but exception of the woman working the spa room who was BY FAR THE MOST RUDE PERSON I EVER MET! The hotel pool badly needs an update from the current 70’s fabulous and there is currently no hot tub. We went to the hotel bar and the waiter was every inattentive. Also, one night the bar tender said we could not bring our drinks upstairs to our room and had to order room service for drinks. Then and another night with a different bartender said it was okay to bring our drinks to our room from the bar… So what is it??? Out of the HUNDREDS of Marriott hotels I have been too I have NEVER been told I can’t bring my drink back to my room…
The concierge lounge is to be desired also… While it was very nice inside the offerings are rather poor when compared to other offerings at other Marriott properties… I think if Marriott Corporate knew of all these things they would not be happy…

We are Marriott Platinum and so you could say we are a fan of Marriott properties. We thought it was just «ok». It definitely could use some updating. The pool was AWFUL. No hot tub, and the pool itself was small and old. And the woman working at the spa (that you have to walk through to get to the pool) was very rude.
Service at the restaurant was inconsistent. Also, the trash in the lobby was overflowing for most of the day. Just not what we are used to seeing at Marriott properties.
When we come back to Montréal, we probably won’t stay here again. We will try another location.

I like this hotel a lot! This place is connected to the Bonaventure station in the Montréal metro which only serves the orange line so you may have to transfer depending on where you are going. The station is also connected to an ice rink. The rooms are really nice but very small considering some rooms can be very big! If you are facing the north side you are most Likely to get the best views of the city in which i got views on the south side of the city which was also nice considering i was on the 25^th floor! Resturant was good enough!

Nice room with oval window if you get a city view room. Bed was comfortable and rooms are quite (I was next to the elevator). Front desk and all service were friendly, attentive.
About 5 min walk to wherever restaurants/​shops are (big blocks here in downtown)… not even a single restaurant within one block. So it’s ok location but not the best.
Coffee machine in the room has no sugar/​milk. Just coffee/​tea.
Two worst part of stay:
1. Worst wifi connection ever. I chose upgraded faster internet connection but still couldn’t get connected to open a website/​checking email unless I wait for a few min to get connection each time.
2. Exec. lounge is similar or worse than hampton Inn level for breakfast/​evening snack. All alcoholic drinks are not free. Each night, there is one meat-​item (e.g. pork sandwich or chicken satay and salad/​cheese). Breakfast has fruit, yogurt, bread and hard-​boiled egg, cheese. In addition, if you have a guest, there is a charge of 20 CAD!!!
This eventually made me change the hotel after 2 night stay.

Check in was pretty painless, but the room they assigned me to hadn’t yet gotten housekeeping. Gross. Glad I didn’t walk in on the people before me because based on the disheveled bedsheets, I likely would have caught them in the act.
The concierge lounge on the 35^th floor has great views of downtown, especially Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral. Continental breakfast for Elite members from 6:00 — 10:30, Monday-​Friday. Hors d’oeuvres from 5:30 — 7:30, Sunday-​Thursday. Dessert 7:30 — 10:00.
Pretty tough to beat the location. About a 15 minute walk to Old Montréal.
$ 24 daily parking in the garage below on the hotel.

Central, cool authentic retro style. I stay here again and again. It’s a Montréal classic. Not fancy, but worth every penny for the best views in the city.

. The location is great as we are right near Belle Center and we are here for a concert. Metro stop right at hotel and concierge has been helpful.
However, we left at 9:15 am and returned at 4:30 to the same unmade room we left. Then my husband took my kids to the pool while I took a shower. As I was heading into the bathroom in just my underwear, the door opened and the cleaning woman entered and saw me. Rather than saying excuse me and shutting the door, she just looked at me and asks if she could make up the room. Um… Given that she was now staring at me half dressed, she probably could have figured it out. I told her «not now» and shooed her out… And proceeded into bathroom. 5 minutes later I hear the door open again and I just yelled., «I’m still here… «…It was so strange! Eventually we left for dinner and returned to a still unmade room.

Spent 4 nights here this past week and was very pleased with the place. In short:
— nice clean rooms
— some potentially wonderful views (I was upgraded to a suite on the 35^th floor facing south)
— heating was great, as in, lots of it and not loud (you have no idea how important this can be)
— gym was pretty solid with multiple cardio options, free weights and several other machines
— bar downstairs offered friendly service, decent food, and quite a few local beer offerings
— convenient access to the metro directly underneath the hotel
Only minor gripe was the limited offerings of the executive lounge. The place is very small, bfast and evening hors d’oeuvres left quite a bit to be desired. Alcohol is not complimentary unlike true international Marriott hotels. Only real plus is the water and soft drink options in the cooler.

Super hospitable, friendly french and english speaking staff (I didn’t study french in school but I did watch a lot of Madeline growing up! So the extent of my french speaking included «Bonjour,» «Merci,» and «Oui!»), great service, great location — UPS and Starbucks included in the same building… I’d definitely stay here again and would recommend if you’re ever traveling to Montréal.
The hotel is quite beautiful and traditional in terms of aesthetics — patterned rugs, grand staircase, mirrors and chandeliers… you feel as if you walked into a hotel scene from a classic french movie. That being said, the space is still very clean and well-​kept and feels very spacious. I stayed here for a conference which included about 450+ students and the conference room was able to include all of them.
Front desk and concierge were very polite. Checking in was easy. Hotel room was clean and spacious; had your standard amenities. Hot water heated up quickly which was nice since it is below freezing temperatures in the middle of January. Service all around was awesome from the doorman to waiters who rolled out tables and chairs every morning for the students for breakfast. Empty plates and glasses were cleared away almost instantly and frequently from the dining areas and in-​house restaurant. It was great conversing with the staff during my stay here.
TIPS:
–There is an ATM in the lobby across from the front desk if you need to withdraw some cash!
–Keep your keycard away from your phone — they deactivate pretty quickly and frequently. I think I’ve asked the front desk to reactivate mine twice during my stay here. (Thankfully not the same person and they were happy to do it :))
–If you don’t have a Canadian data plan, there is COMPLIMENTARY wifi, albeit it is very glitchy and probably the most frustrating thing about my stay. (To upgrade to high-​speed internet for one day is $ 13 so it’s pretty pricey… so depending on the duration of your stay here, it might be worth purchasing a short-​term data plan).

Great hotel! I like that hotel because it is very close to the heard of Montréal. Try to get an «Concierge room» in the upper floors, then you have breakfast in a special room on top of the hotel, very nice view and to to crowded. There is one thing, don’t use the bar at the hotel, the prices over there are insolence 28 $ for 3 espresso … absolutely ridiculous. Go to 400m to the center they are a lot of places where u can have good food and drinks for less money. The rooms are big, clean and nice.

Classy hotel. Service staff always there to help, usually friendly. Meeting spaces are large, well appointed, and serve every need. Have had a few very good experiences with groups at this hotel. I recommend it when appropriate.
Direct access into Bonaventure metro and the underground city is just one benefit of their excellent location.

A very nicely appointed Marriott high rise hotel in a perfect location. Most everything was within walking distance: art galleries, restaurants, shops, historic churches and the Port of Montréal.
Excellent bar with good menu. Rooms were clean and spacious. View was great. Concierge and front desk staff were extremely helpful. The Metro stops underground right below the hotel. Wifi was confusing, however.
Rumor has it that, every now and then, William Shatner stops by the bar. Oh, to hang with Denny Crane!

Ahhhh le Mariott Château Champlain, toute une histoire… C’est l’un des premiers hôtels où j’ai séjourné à Montréal lorsque j’habitais encore Paris. Maintenant je le vois tous les jours de la fenêtre de mon appartement. Comme quoi…
Ma review est un peu biaisée car j’ai eu la chance, grâce à un Papa dans le tourisme d’avoir un surclassement dans l’une des suites de l’établissement.
Parlons peu, parlons bien ! L’emplacement est fantastique ! 10min à pieds du Vieux Montréal et du quartier des finances, 5min de McGill et Ste-​Catherine, 3 min du Centre Bell. Idéal !! En plus il est possible d’aller directement au métro Bonaventure sans avoir à glisser le bout du nez dehors.
Les chambres maintenant… Suite au dernier étage avec vue panoramique sur Montréal, splendide !!! La décoration y est très classique mais toujours de bon goût. Le service en chambre, parfait. Jet-​lag oblige la première nuit c’est la tradition: une soupe, un granola et au dodo ! Le room-​service à ma porte en maximum 15 min et le staff non seulement ultra-​pro mais surtout très chaleureux.
Les plus du Château-​Champlain?
Le concierge !!! Un homme d’une bonne cinquantaine d’année, un vrai montréalais qui connaît la ville de fond en comble et sait orienter les clients selon toutes leurs envies, leurs goûts et leurs budgets (même ceux des étudiantes ;)).
L’autre truc chouette: un starbucks dans l’hôtel. Hop un petit caramel machiatto et on refile dans la chambre pour un petit film.
Le bar est vraiment agréable, le choix y est exhaustif et l’ambiance cosy.
Enfin la piscine et le jacuzzi sont tellement appréciés au mois de février.
Bref, le Château Champlain réponds à tout ce que l’on s’attend d’un Mariott ! Pas de grande surprise mais toujours élégant avec un super service !
