I first started going here because another salon had messed up my eyebrows and Elly’s had good reviews regarding fixing and reshaping brows. There used to be a great girl who was friendly and easy to talk eel terrible that I can’t remember her name but I don’t think she works here anymore. The woman who did my brows most recently was friendly as well, but she kept talking about and pushing permanent laser hair removal and creams. As a student on a tight budget, I really don’t appreciate being bullied into buying expensive products. She also tried repeatedly to get me to wax my lip by telling me how dark the hair was and how I would look so much better if she fixed it which was really rude. I’ll probably continue coming here if only because their actual waxing technique is good and because they are the closest salon that hasn’t switched to threading. Known what you’re looking for when you walk in the door or you might get suckered into expensive products you don’t need. Their close-by location in the underground and their waxing technique are the reasons I gave three stars but I am unimpressed with their sales techniques.

I have gotten my eyebrows done here 3 times. The first time experience was really good. I don’t remember who did my eyebrows, but I think she doesn’t work there anymore. She did a great job. Second time I went there, I had an appointment with Elly. I got there, the girl in the reception was talking on the phone about something personal and I had to wait 5 minutes until she hanged up and talked to me. She told me to wait for 15 minutes while Elly was doing something. After 15 minutes she came to me and told me Elly was busy(even though I had an appointment) but she could do my eyebrows. I was sceptical but I agreed. She barely did anything. Maybe she was afraid of ruining them so she didn’t want to take many hair… not sure. I left there with almost the same amount of hair on my eyebrows and 20 $ less. I decided to give it another try after 3 months. I had an appointment with Elly, because I read here that she was really good with eyebrows. Same thing again. Waited for about 20 minutes. Then, I was trying to explain to Elly how do I like the shape and everything and she was barely listening to me. It was late and she wanted to go home. She literally did my eyebrows and upper lip in less than 5 minutes. When I looked at myself in the mirror I looked like a cartoon. My eyebrows were really thin and completely rounded. WTF. I told her I wanted them with arch and thick. She asked me how were they and I tried to be nice and tell her that I wasn’t very happy with the shape and everything and she changed her attitude completely and got really bitchy. I payed and when I told the woman on the reception that I didn’t want to give any tip she looked at me and said something in french that i didn’t understand. NEVERCOMINGBACK. Terrible service.

I’m asian as well, so I never knew what kind of eyebrows would compliment my face. My first experience at Elly’s Esthetic & Salon was really good! I used to get my eyebrows threaded at Dees for 4 $, but paying $ 12 for Elly to shape my eyebrows nicely and softly(instead of the harsher straight lines that is more for caucasian faces) was totally worth it.

I’ve been to this place before in the PAST, and had a great experience. That was when Elly had just relocated to her new location. Elly was then professional and quick, although still attentive. But NOW… The second time around, almost a year later, was quite a different experience for me. The first time, when I asked her if I should pencil/crayon in my eyebrows on a day to day basis, she answered that no and that shaping them would do the job, and it did. The second time however, she kept talking about how great my eyebrows would be dyed, for them to appear darker, even when I did not mention anything on the subject. I eventually got convinced(read: pressured) into getting it done for an additional fee. During the eyebrow shaping, I felt a lot of pain, but thought it was normal. There was a region right below my eyebrow, where she waxed, that hurt a lot — I express my discomfort to her, and immediately she knew where before I had to point it out(which then clued me in that the place that was hurting was fairly red for her to be able to see it as well). After she had dyed my eyebrows, it still hurt. I checked in the mirror before leaving, my forehead and eyebrow area were pink and the dye made me look like I had some kind of unibrow. She said that some of it would come off and told me to not worry. 6 hours after, it became apparent that it wasn’t some minor irritation. The skin below my eyebrow was still bright pink and VERY sensitive to touch. One of my friend that saw me even thought I had gotten punched in the eye. Turns out, when she waxed my eyebrows, she didn’t hold the skin around the eye properly. And since the skin in this area is fragile, she basically waxed off a whole layer or two of skin(two layers of epidermis). The following week, the skin darkened, then it clotted, and then the clots feel off, bit by bit. It’s now close to being healed now, but it’s a good thing it wasn’t done before an important event… I initially didn’t want to write this review as I thought it could happen to anybody to have a bad job done, but when I called them, Elly, who happened to be the one doing my eyebrows, denied completely that it had happened. She said I looked fine when I left and told me to slap some cream on it, any kind. Needless to say, «any cream» would have done more damage than good and I looked up online correct information(in this case, Vitamin E or Aloe can be used, as they accelerate the skin repair process). Oh and that dye job? A few days after, everything was gone(which is a good thing, I suppose), but she said it was suppose to last 6 months… I’m now waiting for my eyebrows to grow back as they are uneven after her waxing and won’t go back to her place anymore. Used to be good, but not anymore. There are some other reviews(filtered however) that indicate a similar trend… TLDR; Was great in the past, inattentive to costumers nowadays. Try at your own risk. Check the picture for an idea of what it looked like, a few days after(when clotting was complete and it wasn’t so swollen).

I have recently relocated to Montréal and I was looking for an eyebrow specialist. I am very particular about my eyebrows(I have Asian eyebrows) and since I wasn’t sure where to go I was rather apprehensive on who to visit. I bumped into a review online with great reviews on Elly. She is located in the Sun Life building inside L’hair Moderne Salon. Elly is really friendly, took her time to look at my eyebrows. She informed me what was wrong with them and how she plans to fix them. Her room was clean and efficient. She uses hot wax and it was painless. I normally get my eyebrows threaded and that is more painful. I came out of the salon quite satisfied. I definitely recommend her. I still have a long way to go with my eyebrows but I can’t wait to see the end result.
