A/Maze

We went this summer and this was our first escape game experience. We LOVED it! We did the temple and the Labratory. There was a strong story line and the puzzles were well themed. We have done other escape games since, but this has remained our favorite.
The only downside and the reason for the four stars — we didn’t like that we could get thrown in with strangers. The other people entered a code in wrong and caused us to loose a lot of time.

My girlfriend and I did all three of their rooms this past weekend (Lost Temple, Prison Break, and the Laboratory). The rooms themselves had both great ambiance and puzzles on the whole, but unfortunately our experience was overshadowed by extremely poor customer service. Ignoring some of the terrible employees, the room themselves deserve 5 stars.
Our last room of the weekend was the laboratory, which had some cheap chemistry glassware in it. During our search of the room one of the tiny test tubes was nudged and shattered. The employees charged us $ 5 for it even though a google search quickly shows its only costs 50 cents. This was after we had already spent over a $ 100 on the rooms during the weekend. This is supremely petty and even though the rooms are great, I cannot recommend this escape room company as some of the staff is terrible and ruins the experience.

Love it! I went there with 2 other friends and did The Temple. We were all noobs so it was kinda challenging at the beginning as we didn’t know what we were supposed to look for. We called for the one hint they would give to you and that was really helpful. We didn’t finish it after 20 min but we were close and I was pretty satisfied with our progress considering we’ve never had any escape game experience online or in real life.
Would definitely go back and play other games!

A/​Maze is escape rooms well done.
I did the Jailhouse scenario and found it extremely well done, thoughtful, creative, and well-​executed. I’m a huge fan of these types of games and it was obviously designed by people who are passionate about the concept. We were so close to finishing by the 45 minutes, that they came in and told us we had 3 extra minutes to get it done. (We were on the last challenge).
I was very impressed with the experience as a whole, and recommend it to others who enjoy this concept or want to experience something new.

I love puzzle games!
I realise it is a bit strange to be locked in a room with friends to try to solve a mystery… but it is really fun… and we got *so* close to solving it all! We tried the mad scientist puzzle… which is pretty tough, with some really clever clues! It can be really exciting when several clues/​answers come together and you manage to find a key to open a whole new room! I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so you’ll just have to trust me that it is a really fun way to spend an hour!
The building/​venue was really interesting too, right down to the choice between a creepy washroom and a normal washroom! There is plenty of water if you need a drink while you wait, and a foosball table and some other games if you arrive early and need something to keep you occupied.
I’ve given this four stars because it wasn’t quite as amazing as the awesome hint hunt in London (and because although they have a «hint» button that you can use once, we pressed it three times before anyone came to help us! Boo!)

So fun we went twice in 3 days! Definitely recommend going with more people rather than fewer to give you a better chance at completing the objectives.

I’ve done other similar games in Montréal and was excited to try A/​Maze. We decided to do the hidden temple room while my little brother was in town. We booked and paid about a month ahead of time. When we got there, they asked me to pay (at that time it had been so long that I forgot I’d already paid, so I paid a second time — this was the first issue) and then we signed in. We had to wait quite a while due to a problem with one of the puzzles in the room, which wouldn’t have been so bad on its own but with the rest of our experience… We got into the room and the puzzles were really cool and a lot more technical than I’ve seen before. We made some progress but managed to accidentally work around one puzzle (which shouldn’t happen) and then we got stuck on the last puzzle. We asked for help and the guy who came in gave us a hint, but it didn’t work. He ended up trying to do it for us and then announced that the puzzle was broken. Unfortunately, it was the puzzle that led to the prize, so even though we’d solved all the puzzles, we weren’t able to get the prize. The guy wasn’t apologetic at all, he just had the attitude of «oh well» and basically rushed us out to take our picture and get the room set up for the next group. On top of that, I was going over my credit card statement a few days later and realized I’d paid twice. I emailed them and they refunded it right away, but he said he hoped we’d at least gotten the treasure and I mentioned we hadn’t and he never replied. After all the problems we’d had, I expected at the very least we would get an apology or a discount on a future visit, but nothing.
The puzzles are cool, but between technical issues and no customer service to speak of, I won’t be going back to try any others.

Definitely a must try if you live in MTL. A different experience than anything I’ve ever done before. I went with a group of friends, 5 in total, i think that’s the maximum no. Of players, and we did the crazy scientist scenario. I think 45 min. is not enough, but they said that that is the challenge.
We will definitely go back to try the other two scenarios, prison break and the lost temple

This is a very cool way to spend an hour of your time. You and up to four others are locked in a room and have to work together as a team to break out. There are different scenarios for each room and they are quite hard so the success rate is quite low. I believe they told us only about 3% of people actually solve Prison Break which is the one we did. We came close to breaking out but time ran out. That being said it’s still fun and I really enjoyed myself. The only downside is once you’ve done one scenario you know how it ends so if you return it’s best not to retry that one or else it would just be too easy.
You have to reserve ahead of time because A/​Maze is popular and everyone has the same idea to check it out. It will cost you about $ 20 and I felt that it was worth it.

If you are like me and really enjoy the computer version of «escape the room games» then you will love this place. It is the real life version and it is 10x better than any online game you will find.
I went with a group of 4 friends and we attempted Prison break and escaped the Mad scientist scenarios. It was an incredible amount of fun.
The storyline is pretty cool and who doesn’t like being placed in a small enclosed room with your closest friends (or enemies) and having to put your heads together to unlock clues and find the key to escape! A/​maze requires a bit more thinking to figure out the clues rather doing more physical puzzles, but you have to work as a team!
I highly recommend this place and I would definitely return to try out more scenarios!

Loads of fun! It was very interesting to see how our friends would act and re-​act in the scenarios. All of our minds put together brought us 95% close to finishing The Temple.
Reserving your date and time slots online is recommended. You may pay by cash or credit card upon arrival. You may be asked to hang your jacket at the entrance, and ladies may stow their purses at the waiting area… or keep it with you during gameplay. Arrive a few minutes prior to your reservation to sign a waiver, get a photo taken that will be posted on their Facebook page, and for an explaination of the game premise.
The «problems» to solve are not hard, per se, just be sure to work together! (Doesn’t matter if you are French or English speaking to solve the «problems»).
Just have fun!

Fun place to visit for an hour of entertaintment. You choose the type of room/​puzzle and try to solve it with clues left in the room. We participated in a clue findding activity with my husband and teenage son and were paired up with two young other people. Activity is definitely a team game, searching for clues its quite difficult at times. We did not solve the whole thing in time. To be fair the key in one of the locks did not work which cost us time and threw us off.
Employee said that about 3 to 5 percent of people solve whole thing. Fun but only if you are the detective and very persiatent type.

«Montréal 1926
Une ville de glacé et de crime, une ville sans pitié. De jour en jour, la population se trouve au milieu de l’injustice et la cruauté. La ville appartient aux voleurs et crosseurs, avec un homme au sommet — Le Grand Vanko.
Un homme sans sentiment, gouvernant la cité comme un seigneur féodal, tout à sa disposition — municipalités, policiers, procureurs… Néanmoins, la dernière affaire de l’organisation de Vanko échoue. Une douzaine de policiers et criminels se trouvent morts dans les rues. La rumeur court que la bande est trahie de l’intérieur. Enragé, Vanko émet un message que celui qui lui trouve le traitre, recevra autant d’argent qu’il peut amener entre ses mains. Criminels, ainsi que les policiers corrompus roulent à travers la ville, cherchant des candidats malchanceux.
Entre-​temps, les détectives du département A/​Maze découvrent des preuves qui vous lient au mauvais moment et lieu. Les policiers conjecturent votre relation avec des criminels et vous amènent au poste pour questionnement. Faussement accusés, vous comprenez que maintenant c’est sans importance car le mot se rendra jusqu’à la mafia et surement ils viendront vous chercher. Votre seule option est de trouver qui sont les vrais criminels et s’évader de la prison avant que les agents de Vanko vous trouvent pour exécuter son ordre.»

Un vrai bon moment, 45 minutes pour s’echapper…
Nous étions deux et associé avec trois inconnus et une fois de plus, y a pas photo, c’est la communication et ça opère bien au sein de l’équipe !
Une fois de plus, avec A/​Maze, la déco est irréprochable et le jeu très bien ficelé ! Nous avons réussi à 95%. Mais ce scénario est plus facile que le «Le laboratoire du savant fou».
Mon seul repproche, c’est le temps, 45 minutes (d’autres en proposent 60), c’est vraiment trop court, mais c’est comme ça que les concepteurs voient leur jeu. A/​Maze est de plus en plus populaire et il faut s’y prendre de plus en plus tôt pour réserver !!!***

Un concept d’Escape Room. Un jeu grandeur nature quoi.
Plusieurs quêtes disponibles, «l’évasion de prison» et «le Laboratoire du Savant fou», à venir en mars, «le temple perdu».
En gros, vous êtes enfermés dans une pièce dans laquelle vous devez trouver des indices et progresses en résolvant des énigmes.
Il existe d’autres jeux de ce genre dans Montréal («Échappe-​toi», «Obsidem», «Trouvez la Clef», «Escape the Room»…).
A\Maze est moins populaire que d’autres (plus de disponibilité dans les réservations). Peut-​être à cause de la durée, qui est de 45 minutes (60 minutes pour les autres), mais j’ai trouvé le décor au top et bien fini, c’est pourquoi je lui met aussi 5 étoiles.
Je né peux pas en dire plus, pour né pas révéler des solutions et la surprise de la découverte des pièces.
Bref, allez-​y et vivez l’aventure à fond.
