A true comic book and graphic novel shop. Not a lot of toys, but they have some higher end collectibles. I walked in out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised with what I saw.

I made a stop at The Comic Hunter today and was amazed at the super-friendly staff and the vast selection of old comics. I’m a back-issue collector who enjoys getting lost amongst boxes of vintage comics and this store had lots to offer me. I lost count of the amount of rows of old comics they had but I remember they were stacked four high and two deep — Marvel on one side and DC on the other with many of the smaller companies mixed in for good measure. Their system of cataloguing stock is a little confusing for me though. For example, I was looking for old Marvel G.I. Joe issues. You’d think they would be in the Marvel section, right? Wrong. They actually have a small room in the back dedicated to comics based on movie, TV, and toy properties. One of the staff guys showed me to this exclusive room and even took down the boxes for me which contained the comics I was looking for. I actually could have spent much more time(and money) there if I hadn’t restrained myself. I was actually there only just to check the place out — maybe look around for a couple minutes and then leave. It was a pleasant surprise to find out they had a tonne of cool comics that are needed in my collection. Needed! They have all the obligatory new comic releases as well as a large selection of graphic novels to choose from. The store sells action figures too but their toy selection seems to be limited to current releases. This isn’t the place to go for vintage action figures. I just want to reiterate how friendly, conversational, and helpful the staff are here. It was a pleasure giving them my money.

The Comic Hunter is my favourite comic book store in the city. It’s kind of cramped in there, as a comic book store should be! They sell games as well as comics and manga and a few vinyl toys and such. The thing I like the best about this store is that, as a female, I don’t feel like I’m an alien when I step in there. The staff is friendly and it doesn’t feel like anyone is wondering what I’m doing in there. As far as I can tell the staff is all male but for those of us who happen to be both female and fans of comic books, don’t worry about feeling out of place in this store because you are just as welcome as anyone else.

The name is The Comic Hunters, and they definitely have a great selection of comics, but they have a great selection of role playing games, board games, card games, etc. If it’s geeky, they have it. Looking at the monthly calendar they have on the wall, you can see they have a great deal of events(Magic tournaments, board game night, etc.) through out the week. Almost something every night. I was in there twice over the last week and spoke to two different employees. Both were extremely helpful. Parking is easy, location is good as well. Top notch operation!

I’ve had the pleasure to visit this place twice in the last month and both visits have cemented this as one of the best comic book stores in greater Moncton. They carry a fabulous selection of comics, as wells as a large variety of boardgames and other geekery. The staff have been incredibly helpful on both visits and were able to answer any question I had. They demonstrated a large knowledge in their field without ever coming across as being condescending which is why I would be completely comfortable in recommending anyone to visit. Their prices are very good as well, often times a few dollars off the cover price. In short, a great place to check out!
