Tonyc Salon & Spa

I used to work in Square One Shopping Centre and the salon offered 50% off for a first time client (also offered a mall discount). Anyways, I am a HUGE nail person — acrylics, gels, shellac, manicures and pedicures. I am the GO TO girl for this stuff. I’ve probably tried 95% of the nail salons and spas in the GTA and have found maybe 5% of that 95% that are satisfactory.
The experience overall was enjoyable. I was taken right away. The salon is very clean — 5 stars for that! I watched them disinfect the pedicure chair after a client and the process what definitely was 100% satisfactory to being clean and disinfected, I wouldn’t fear putting my feet in there. I was only getting a shellac manicure and the technician was very nice and sociable — as all the ladies in the room were. The colour selection was horrible! I like very bright colours that POP like flip flop fantasy (my fellow nail girls will understand). I chose a light pink because it was the nicest one. The manicure was okay, nothing too special. She did the shellac and it was decent but I’ve seen better in little ghetto nail salons. She didn’t ask what shape I wanted my nails which really bothered me because I am SUPER specific.
I paid and went back to work and was really upset because the next day the shellac already started to chip.
Wouldn’t spend the money here, would rather go somewhere else.

Went here for the first time today, and my stylist is pretty good! She isn’t rough with my hair so am happy about that. I had stylists before rough handle my hair like their gonna rip it apart. the woman has gentle hands. Cant say so much for the other ones who helped her to dry my hair. *cough*. anyway. not much conversation between her and I (am not much of a talker anyway so it doesn’t bother me) and she did a colour correction on my hair so I have a few more sessions to go since am going for a lighter hair.
Overall, I say my experience was nice and straight to the point. Price is good (I’ve seen more expensive) for the way they handled my hair and the place is modern. importantly CLEAN.
I would go back for sure. I highly recommend for anyone to check them out!

I wanted to colour my hair and was looking for a salon that was close to where I live and wasn’t super expensive. And after some research I settled on Tonyc because they had really great promotions going on and the reviews were good. And I must say I really liked my experience here. When I walked in they took me in for a consultation, asked me about what I wanted and explained what would work well for me and told me how much it would all cost me. They were also able to schedule me in right away.
My stylist was really great. She was very patient, friendly and did a thorough job. My hair wasn’t taking in the colour well so she took the time to make sure the colour came out as it should. Which I really appreciated. Especially since this was my first time colouring my hair so I was a bit nervous. So overall I got a wash, colour, cut and style for $ 123 bucks. I love my new hair and I would definitely recommend this place for getting your hair done. Make sure to check out their website for really great deals. Totally worth it.

I love seeing Mila at this salon, she has amazing precision while cutting and styling. On multiple occasions I’ve got her to style my hair for parties, that’s one of her specialities. Every time she came up with a unique style that stayed in place all night and the next day. (~$ 60)
I only go here because of Mila. I was always willing to try their other services but their other staff didn’t come off as too friendly.

Tonyc sounds like the name to a nightclub, and I experience a level of privacy on the same level as most nightclubs, which is to say it’s not very private. That doesn’t stop people from doing private things in nightclubs, but I guess that’s irrelevant.
I was overdue for my annual facial, which qualifies me as always being overdue. But a ‘facial’ and being ‘overdue’ aren’t two things I’d prefer to be associated as a man. Maybe that’s also irrelevant.
Running a spa is tricky business when the venue is within a shopping mall. The idea of being separated from a thousand people by simply drywall is a difficult thing to overcome. If the barrier between a washroom and the general public was only a door, then there would be a lot more people walking around full of shit. That’s why washrooms in malls are hidden away in narrow corridors. When I am in a spa, I am at a level of vulnerability greater than when I am in the washroom. Tonyc tries to alleviate this with the sound of running water, and amber lighting. Common in most spas, somewhat effective in this environment.
I was assigned a soft spoken Iranian lady who took a little longer than I expected to prepare. me, or herself? I was first humidified, then wiped down with a hot towel. The spa table was slightly narrow for an overgrown brute like me, but there wasn’t much trouble for me to find a comfortable balanced position. It became clear to her that I didn’t frequent myself to her services, and she pointed out a few issues I had with my skin that no one else mentioned in previous spa session elsewhere. There was little conversation between us, and the supposed tranquil sounds of running water and whatever else that was ambient felt overbearing. The sound of running water resembled more to the chirping of crickets, a sound of nature not associated with relaxation, but awkwardness. I would have wished that she’d narrate her process as I moaned in comfort. I understand that this was not a massage; however, I wasn’t prepared to get naked in a mall. That’s the beginning the most viral horror stories.
Towards the end, I was asked to remove my top under garment so that I would receive a neck massage. I’m always reluctant to do this in front of strangers because I don’t like to reveal my tattoos. She asked me about them, and I made up a story to avoid the truth. The neck massage was wonderful, but way too short. It surely was a strong enticement to opt for the body massage.
Ninety minutes later, I was a newly exfoliated man. My skin was pearl white, and my neck felt like it was made of pillows. A facial here is most like a really long washing, rather than the slightly surgical procedures I’ve experienced at some other spas. There are advantages to both types. This session was much more relaxing, despite the poorly constructed ambiance. It was definitely a case of the staff redeeming for the mediocre business. I can’t link the name to the business model; overall, I felt the location was too big of a factor for me to become a regular here.
Tonyc spa also do haircuts, nails, and other grooming regimens that I will not go near at a spa, but that’s only because I don’t need to spend that kind of money for something so simple. Getting people to rub my face is another story.
If you were wondering what is the deal with my tattoos, well, I’m sorry but that’s irrelevant.

I have been here twice and had Florence as my stylist. Both were bob cuts at different lengths. I loved the outcomes and appreciated that she listened to my requests carefully. I will definitely come back for more hair cuts in the future.

I have very dry curly hair and it’s always very hard to find someone who knows how to highlight and cut it properly. Most of the time the highlights are too chunky and the blonde is so processed that my hair breaks off because it is too dry. I’ve tried about 5 different salons. I also find that many stylists don’t listen to what you really want and you never end up with exactly what you asked for.
My sister recommended Simon at Tonyc in Fairview Mall. He was absolutely amazing. I’ve never had someone concentrate to detail like he did. You can tell he loves what he does and is really experienced.
In the end I got exactly what I wanted. My hair had natural looking highlights, my cut was perfect for curly hair and my hair felt so healthy. He also had great styling tips that have really changed my daily hair routine. I really recommend him.

I’ve been coming here for about 3 – 4 years now, but it’s hard to pinpoint exactly since I’m one of those girls that will get a haircut once every 3 – 8 months with no set régime or schedule. When I decide «it’s time» is when I go for a haircut.
The staff are friendly and professional. The nail lounge is extremely clean, which is very important to me. All of the pedicure sinks and all the tools are either single use or sterilized after each client. They use OPI and Essie polishes for their nail services and Gehwol products — high-​quality German brand. They don’t use the massage chairs with the water-​jet foot baths because the jets can harbour bacteria and are hard to clean. The girl I used to book my pedicures with here gave the most wonderful leg massages. They only do natural nail manicures here (no gels or acrylics). The «nail room» is sectioned off from the rest of the salon (to keep the fumes in?) but it is well ventilated and doesn’t smell too strongly.
For hair, I’ve been asking for Dani every time I go to Tonyc. She’s really friendly and awesome and does a great job coloring, cutting and styling my hair. She does the most incredible blow-​outs — I was chatting one of the girls at the front counter once and she agreed that no one on staff could do as nice a blow-​out. Dani takes her time to do a great job — I never have to worry about finding a stray hair that’s 1″ longer than everything else a couple of days later. I always leave looking fabulous.

Sometimes you just have to get your hair done. It was one of those days, and Tonyc came to the rescue. So happy that they take walk-​ins.
They had two stylists available when I arrived. One was more senior and thus more expensive ($ 65/​cut), but I opted for the other woman ($ 50/​cut). I decided to add a deep conditioning treatment ($ 15) to make up the difference.
Daly was my stylist, and I think she did a great job. She wasn’t in a rush and definitely wanted to give me the look I was seeking. She was gentle with the shampooing, gave an awesome head massage during the conditioning treatment, asked me if I wanted more or less length cut off and showed me, blew my hair out without frying it, and straight-​ironed super efficiently. She made my day.
As for my hair, I’m happy. I hadn’t had it cut in 4.5 months, and it was about time. The coolest part of my service at Tonyc was probably the deep conditioning. They put me under a steamer for at least 15 minutes. It took some time to start up, but after that, it was pretty neat. When it was over, and I came out from under the steam hood, I felt a little tingly as the air conditioning hit me. Naturally…
Totally recommend Tonyc if you’re in the area. This place seems really reliable.
*Caution: slick floors. It’s the tile, and my shoes can’t help it. Hope yours have traction.
