History

Established in 2013.

The Ant and Grasshopper was born out of an idea to marry my line of children’s dress up clothes, accessories and toys, Too Cute for Words! with local labels. I wanted to make my shop unique, different from anything else out there. I wanted to make it a community stop offering a place for local artists to showcase their art and to help encourage creativity in those that stopped in. To help foster that creativity I offer kids art classes. My educational back ground is in fashion illustration and design. I have worked in the fashion industry but I truly have a passion to help children grow creatively. I have the help of my daughter Cali, age 15 and my son Matias, age 4 to keep my own imagination bright and full of colourful ideas.

Meet the Business Owner

Laurie S.

Business Owner

I am a wife and mother to two wonderful kids Cali, age 15 and Matias, age 4. I have a back ground in fashion design and as a teen I wanted to grow up and teach art. My favorite possession growing up was the old singer sewing machine which belonged to my mother before me. I use to enjoy creating wearable art, such as a multi coloured purse or a funky hat. I also loved taking clothing items apart to figure out just how to make one for myself. To this day I still enjoy creating new items. When my daughter was born I was so delighted that I had someone small and cute to design and make things for. I always look forward to Halloween especially. I loved creating play/dress up clothes for her. She loved the princesses, my specialty. Four years ago I started Too Cute for Words! which I worked very hard to build the brand. It was very successful so I felt that it might be time to expand. This was the birth of the Ant and the Grasshopper.
