Chinese food courts aren’t your typical food courts at a mall. You’ll rarely find a McDs or foods cooked in a deep fryer. Instead these food courts are about good food. fast. The food courts themselves are sometimes a bit sketchy. They’re usually a bit run down, and cleanliness is never the top priorities. However, some of the best food in the city come out of these dives! With the mass closing of the food court at dragon center, I’m really not sure if there are any left in the city of Toronto. Essentially you have to head out to the burbs. The good part is though if you’re you’re looking for a «staycation» these treks are so worth it. This is mainly targeting the downtown trekers without a car. One such food destination is the tiny food court at Metro Square. I think there’s 6 food stalls here, but Szechuan Huai Yang is one of the best in the GTA! They’ve got a huge menu with most things under $ 5! And one of my all time favourite dishes is the Szechuan spicy fried pork chops. They give you three moist and juicy chops on a bed of rice with a side of veg(see my picture). This dish isn’t overpowering in spicy heat. It’s a decent enjoyable level for those who tend to order medium wings instead of hot. But true Szechuan heat is more about flavour of the chillis than just the heat itself, which is how I distinguish between good and bad Szechuan. For $ 5, including a can of pop, there’s just not many places in the GTA or North America for that matter that can match this. The only reason this doesn’t get the full 5 stars is because I’m just not a fan of Metro Square itself. You know the food’s good, when I’m salivating just writing this. :P~ Yum.
