Spellbound Hair Design

I’ve been going to Spellbound for about 9 years now and Stanley C. is my stylist. One fateful day, I was feeling down about doing badly on a test and needed to cheer myself up so I decided to get a haircut. Stanley was a junior stylist at the time and he happened to be available for a walk-​in. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was very satisfied the first time so I kept coming back! He’s always updated on the latest hairstyles and able to execute them too. He’s very detail oriented and takes pride in his work. I have a round face shape so not all hairstyles look good on me and he tells me straight up if it might not turn out well. Then, we figure out together what would work. He also gives out great tips on haircare and how to style for a certain look. I’m the lazy type so he cuts it in a certain way so that the maintenance isn’t a hassle, regardless if it’s long, medium, or short. I always get compliments on how well my new hairstyle looks. I’ve referred many people to Stanley and they’ve all been satisfied.

Really good hair salon especially if you are Asian. Usually get my hair cut by candy v and she is excellent. Really good with male hair. She is very careful and takes her time. It’s not a cheap place to get your haircut but it’s worth because service is good. The hair washing is very nice and they take their time. Bring cash because it’s cheaper.

I’ve had my hair cut here a few times and every time I was pretty happy with the results. So, as the summer heat is now coming in I decided to get my hair cut again. I like my hair to be medium length (just slightly over my chest). The last time I got my hair cut I got no layers. I just asked straight blunt cut but after months of not being able to curl my hair I decided to ask for some layers. Now, I went in for a walk in and the same lady who did my hair last time was cutting it again. I loved my last cut so I had faith in this hair dresser (a bit older Asian lady, I wanna say her name is Joyce but I have no idea). I asked for around the same length but some layers as well. After a bit of reading I look up and see how short she had cut my hair. It was inches shorter than I asked, with too many layers AND she thinned out my already very THIN hair. My hair is the type of hair that dries in 5 mins and where my ears poke through constantly. I don’t have hair. This haircut was a complete mess. I was hoping that when I got home I could maybe play around with how to make it work. Well, it’s been 2 weeks and my hair has been in a bun every single day because I can’t do anything with it. It makes me look old (like a mom [I’m 18 for Christ’s sake]), sickly, and just doesn’t suit my face. I have not been so disappointed in a haircut since I was like 7 years old. Will not be coming here again.
Although, I had a bad experience the lady who washed my hair every time was pleasant as usual. But I can’t trust this place anymore.

This is my first time here at Spellbound even though I know the owner who sponsors a lot of events and fashion shows and shoots.
Because of that I expected this place to be super high class, super arrogant stylists and overrated and expensive … BUT IT’S NOT. to my surprise.
The stylists and assistants are super friendly and professional at their job. Originally their interior design scared me a little but it’s really Interesting when you look at it closely at an artistic way.
(When consulting with stylist Jenny) They’re very honest about how they feel about how you want your hair done. They also don’t hard sell extra products on you to bump the sale up.
If you get the 1 min oil treatment it’s adding oil to your wet hair with a nice massage no heating element necessary. $ 10
They take credit card however cash is 5% tax and if you use credit card it’s full 13% tax. They do not accept American Express.

I chose to have a stylist cut my hair yesterday. Honestly I thought the experience was going great. The lady who did my wash and dry was really nice and was fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English so my mom was chatting with her and everything, ok cool.
Then the stylist comes. I believe his name was Jucci (guy with glasses and greyish hair). He asks what kind of cut I want. I told him I just wanted a trim, and showed him I only wanted it 2 inches shorter max. He immediately laughed and told me, that’s not a haircut. It pretty much went downhill from that. If anyone wants a TL;DR, this guy was a dick.
My mom was trying to chat with him, since my Mandarin is not that good, but then we realized he couldn’t speak Mandarin that well. He was being a little prick about it already, like «LOL uhh. I don’t speak Mandarin that well either».
Anyways, I ended up telling him I wanted layers, because my hair did originally have long layers. Then he asked me if I wanted it straight at the back or a v shape. I asked for a v shape, not really knowing he was going to chop off almost all of the hair I dyed a few months ago. Ok, fair enough it was a misunderstanding.
My mom started looking over to check on me once in awhile, and this guy has the nerve to say «why does your mom keep doing that? It’s pretty rude. Do you guys need to be getting somewhere?. I’ll just take my time then». Wow. I didn’t really know what to say, this guy can’t even respect his elders and will just say whatever is on his mind to his customers. I know I’m around his age but seriously?
It got to the point where he finished cutting one side, and saying «If there is a problem, you guys can just leave, free of charge». At this point I also started checking on the length he cut, because I was pretty shocked at how much he was cutting off. He started freaking out at this point too «You asked for layers, I gave you layers!» as if he deserved so much respect for giving me the opportunity of a haircut. Seriously?
At this point I just wanted to get out of there. I waited for him to finish the other side, but he was taking his sweet time as mentioned earlier. He literally took 45min to cut my hair, and continue to thin it. I don’t mind long haircuts normally, but it started getting annoying to hear his petty comments. It was already too late when he decided he would only cut one side of my hair. Obviously I can’t object and have the other side of my hair look ridiculous.
In the end he gave me a bob haircut — really short layers at the top and super thinned out at the back. This is not what I wanted. I know a lot of people can say that I should’ve brought in a picture or been more specific about what I wanted, but I think it was mostly this guy’s horrible attitude that wants me to give this place a 1-​star. For a $ 40 hair cut, you’d expect better service. Luckily, hair always grows back so I’m not too upset by it as of now. I don’t think I’ll be coming back again.

I have been to many hair salons over the years and Spellbound Markham is really as good as it gets! I’ve had my hair cut by Kandy, Anson and, most recently, Stanley. It’s funny because when I can’t make it to Spellbound, I head to some other salon and they ALWAYS do a mediocre job, then I have to head to Spellbound weeks later to fix it.
The hair washing is an amazing experience and I LOVED the head massage. Stanley will now be my go-​to hair stylist. He truly believes that cutting hair is an art and gives your hair the time and attention it deserves. I have never found a better stylist for Asian hair (these are a rarity) and Stanley is clearly an exceptional stylist who expertly knows what he’s doing.
Trust me: if you want great hair, head to Spellbound and look for Stanley. You won’t be disappointed.

I recently moved to Markham but haven’t found a decent hair salon so I decided try this place out based on the Unilocal reviews.
I went in with a photo of the type of cut I wanted and the stylist (Jenny?) went to work.
They do a really good and thorough job in shampooing your hair. They will wash it twice and condition it while giving you a head massage. It’s small but a nice touch. They will also rinse your hair after the cut, which not all salons do but is a nice touch.
I’m used to my previous stylist giving me a lot of texture on the top to the point where my scalp would show when it’s gelled. This made styling it really easy as my fingers could flow through my hair very easily. Jenny textured my hair but left it more on the thicker looking side, which I don’t mind actually. She uses a texturing technique that I’ve never seen before, which got the job done but it did take long; my entire haircut took around 40 minutes, which is really long for a men’s cut. I would still prefer a razor for texturing however.
I do remember passing by this place once and was not a fan of the prices they posted on their window. It ranges from $ 25 – 50 for a mens cut depending on the level of the stylist. This was misleading though as the price of my cut came to $ 36 with a «cash discount», which I find reasonable given the nice job.
I think I will continue my search for my permanent stylist but I think I will come back here once and awhile. Because even though the cut took a long time, I was entertained by their office gossip chatter and Jenny and the other employees there are nice to look at.

I’ve been coming to this place for a while now. I’ve visited some other salons once in a while, but none of them are as good as this one. It is a bit pricier than some salons you might find in the area. When they wash your hair, it’s very relaxing — no water splashing around.
I’ve had my hair cut by Candy in the past, but I recently got my hair cut by Agnes. Jacky cut my boyfriend’s hair. They’re all great!

I’ve been to many hair salons, but never had a haircut that I was truly pleased with. Some hair stylists I met were friendly, but did not do a good job on the cut. Others did a decent job, but did not listen to my input and were rude. And others still did an ok job, for a much higher price with not much of a noticeable difference.
Not Spellbound! At Spellbound, I got a great haircut… my stylist gave suggestions, but always made sure I had my say. Everything from my hair texture to the way I styled my hair was considered, as it should be. And unlike many hairstylists in other salon, my stylist actually seemed to know what he was doing! My cut was explained every step of the way and he took the time to cut my hair with care. I was in the chair for over an hour.
Oh and I usually dread getting my hair washed at the salon but it was great here. No scrubbing, scratching, splashing or anything. The person who washed my hair was very gentle and washed my hair with care and even gave me a nice head massage.
Like Alecsandra, I have wavy hair, and now it too looks great, even without styling. My problem of stringy ends and having one side curlier than the other seems fixed too!
The cuts are a little pricey though and I wasn’t totally pleased with the styling. For the price, I did expect a little more.
Service wise, I also expected a little more professionalism and friendliness. But overall I am pleased. We’ll see how it grows out!

I got a nice hair cut from Agnes today. I loved it. I also loved the bonus massage they did to me when washing my hair.
I will definitely go back again.

I have been going to this place for years since high school and always go to Stanley. I’ve had a bunch of different hair cuts through the years from short bob to straight perm to mid length to dyed caramel… I’ve always trusted Stanley to do a good job and if I go home and don’t love the cut, I can always come in the next day for him to fix it free of charge. They have a great selection of recent Japanese magazines to flip through to get inspired as well!

i visited here to be a hair model. the first cut was great. the second cut wasnt so great. my left side was longer than my right. i called the guy who cut my hair, hawkins, and he told me he would give me 10% off my next cut. why would i go back and pay to get a cut when it was messed up the first time? i was very disappointed and never went back. its a shame i didnt notice right after the cut was done.

Its true they don’t care if you wait long. But its improved a lot since I first visited. I get a great haircut by Agnes every time. Blow dry and styling is mediocre though but for $ 40 who cares? I can trust her to cut just enough in the right places so when I wash my hair (I have naturally wavy hair) it falls just right on its own no styling necessary. In my opinion that’s the best haircut there is: D

I tried to find a good salon in toronto for a really really long time and i finally found it.
I hate cutting my hair because nobody can get it right and when i finally decided to go into this salon i secretly was ready for a disaster as usual.
However, the guy who cut my hair (Anson) took so much care to my hair and he did every single details perfectly.
At first i thought it was expensive but Anson spent almost 2 hours cutting my hair for 38 dollars.
I loved my hair so much and it’s never been so perfectly layered.
Overall, definately a place that i will go back again and i would recommand to my friends.

I have been trying to find a good salon for the longest time & I believe this is it! My hair has never looked this good before and I can’t wait to go back next time :)
I had my hair shampooed and massaged a little. The guy washed it with so much care (no water splashed in my eyes or face! incredible), while the stylist (Jenny) listened to what I had to say and made it better. She’s a Level 1 Stylist but I think she rocks !! :) I think the price is quite acceptable as well. Very good customer service too.
They def. accept debit cards & u can tip with that too.

I think I found my salon! Finally, after 20 odd years, I found it! From the outside this place looks like a hip little joint. It seems to be a cross between a club and a tattoo parlor. Spellbound is a hair salon inside of the First Markham Place plaza. I do believe it’s one of the longest running salons in the plaza, and now i know why.
I always thought it was overpriced, and I never went in there. I tried two other salons in the plaza, and although they were good, I wasn’t blown away. I decided to go out on a limb and give Spellbound a try. I got there Sunday around 11:40AM. There were a lot of people and the wait I was told would be 15 – 20 minutes. I walked around for a bit and settled in their waiting room to look through some Asian hair magazines. Those 20 minutes proved to be quite useful, as I found a hair style I liked in one of their mags.
I got my hair shampooed and massaged, by a cute tattooed guy. I’ve never seen an Asian guy with a full arm tattoo. Well it wasn’t a full arm, but he was on his way. The stylist I had spoke pretty good English. He was extremely pleasant and thorough in his hair cutting technique. He gave me exactly what I wanted and taught me a thing or two about styling my hair.
For a girl who hates getting my hair cut, I’m glad I went here. Busiest day is apparently Saturday. Weekday — during the day, least busy (for obvious reasons).
