To people not live, work, study or play near the City of Markham city hall, Reflection Atrium is a virtual unknown. Those in the know learn to like /appreciate it. Reflection Atrium is located at the lower level of City of Markham Town Hall building, overseeing the skating rink in winter or the fountain in summer. It opens for breakfast and lunch only and closes at around 3 p.m. on weekdays. Even though it is located in the building, it is privately owned and does not belong to the government. Its lunch offering is quite extensive. It offers 2 lunch specials everyday and the menu changes every week. 1 of the special is always a hot dish, and the other can be a hot dish or a wrap/sandwich. It has a very extensive regular menu for such a small cafeteria. It features many varieties of sandwiches, wraps, salads, grilled burgers, etc. There are 5 types of nachos(chicken, bacon, beef, vegetarian, another type of chicken), 6 types of poutine(same types as nachos plus a Classic poutine which means just gravy). Most of the items on lunch menu cost $ 6.95(or $ 7.86 with HST). Sandwiches are inexpensive at $ 3.81(or $ 4 including HST). It has a nice breakfast menu, too. The Early Bird special is $ 4 including small coffee, but I never get up early enough to take advantage of it. Instead I opt for $ 1 muffin or bagel with butter, tax included. Food quality wise, Reflection uses locally grown produce and eggs. The coffee isn’t as strong as McDonald’s, but it works better than Tims on me, or any of my home brew. Needless to say, muffin and bagels are all okay, and I won’t complain about $ 1 breakfast. The lunch special are decent for its prices. They are well portioned(almost too much for a female) and okay quality. Widely acclaimed is their the salads($ 6.95 plus HST). They are fresh every time I order them. The sandwiches fills your stomach, average quality and very good value at $ 4. My favourite is Montréal Meat sandwiches. For lunches, it is busy with many students from the high school nearby, so this place is not as unknown as some may think. The students are also the reasons there are 6 types of poutine and 5 types of nachos. Reflection also does catering. I have seen it caters for weddings at the nearby chapel, as well as the Lion Club. You can contact them for your catering needs. Reflection is a supporter for recycling(all their disposable forks and spoons are recyclable) and other environmentally friendly practices. Reflection is quite decent as a lunch cafeteria. It is open to public, so just walk right in. The eating area has full length window walls that allow a scenic view of the pond or the skating rink and the nearby trees.
