A full service, professional groom for your dog in the comfort of your own home! Ideal for young, elderly, nervous, or physically challenged pets. All that is required is a place to bath the dog (sink, laundry tub, shower or bath tub), an electrical outlet and reasonable light. Suggested locations are a bathroom, laundry room, garage, or basement. A full grooming includes a bath with quality shampoos and conditioners, hand blow-​drying and brushing, nails trimming and filing, ears plucked (if necessary) and wiped clean, a sanitary trim, and a full haircut according to breed standard or owner’s desires. Cleanup of the grooming area following the groom is also provided. Individual services can also be provided such as nail trims and filing, pads and feet trimming, face and eye trims, and sanitary trims. Due to the nature of the service, dogs must be under 50 lbs. Sorry, it will not be possible to groom aggressive dogs. Now serving Markham and Whitby.

History

Established in 1985.

Pets Are People Too was established as a pet store/​grooming salon in 1985. Stephanie Smyth took over as owner in 1998 and quickly made dog grooming her main focus. A mobile grooming venture began in 2004. Stephanie is certified in Pet First Aid and has attended many conferences, trade shows and workshops to further her knowledge.

Business Owner

After completing her B.A. in Psychology, Stephanie began as an apprentice groomer at Pets Are People Too in 1995. She took over as the owner in 1998. In addition to a traditional salon, Stephanie has also run a mobile grooming vehicle and worked in other salons both large and small in the Markham and Whitby areas. Stephanie has taken courses to further her business skills, and is certified in Pet First Aid.

Stephanie’s family includes her husband Chris (who has also worked with her in the business), her son Connor, three Schipperkes and two cats. She enjoys her family life, reading, running and yoga.
