Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt

We have been coming here since it first opened. We used to come by every week, at first. It was novel to serve yourself and a totally new and fun concept. Fast forward a few years and we hardly ever come anymore.
We don’t really come for 2 reasons. Firstly, the flavours here are not that great. Some flavours have a funny after taste to them, like over processed, over artificial, plastic-​y. I never really noticed this till we tried the flavours at Yoghurtys, across the road. But sadly they closed down. They had much better tasting yoghurts.
Price is also a bit steep, you can end up paying $ 15, easily for 2 cups.
Nice for a treat but I hardly ever come here anymore.

Love going here. Lots of space and tons of parking. Selection is amakng and fresh. My favourite!

Huge fan of the self-​serve concept. A plethora of options for toppings as well as mix-&-match possibilities. Make sure to experiment with different flavours. The level of customization is great. :)
Price is a bit steep — how much $ you pay depends on the weight of your cup & these cups are huge. Pro tip: you don’t have to fill up the whole thing.

They are no longer accepting some coupons where they used to be participating locations. The owner Adrian has the worst customer service that I have experienced in years. I told him I paid for the coupons so as a customer I don’t know what his business dealings are with these afflicted companies but he should think about his customers. We had no previous knowledge of his finances. Anyway, he actually said, «I don’t care about you. I don’t care about the customers.» I told him I will inform others on his service and this experience. He said, «Go ahead!» So here I am, please ask them before using your coupons cause you may not be able to use them at the register after. I have been visiting this location for years cause it’s not busy but I won’t be after this poor experience.

When menchies first came to markham, I LOVED it. Like, I literally fell head over heels in love with it. I had an affair, eloped and went on a honeymoon with menchies. It was an addiction. It got so bad, I found myself coming back every day over and over again even though it hit me like a truck of calories.
But still, I was intrigued. I was astonished by the amount of ever-​changing flavours and the abundance of toppings ranging from fresh fruit, popping boba, crunchy cereals and chewy gummies. I never knew I could love it so much.
But I guess it’s true what they say– after a honeymoon period, you just get comfortable with the relationship. Then you tolerate. Then it’s just over. Menchies and I just grew apart.
Today I revisited menchies again after our break up long-​ago. The old familiar atmosphere makes me miss it a bit every time I do. Never again will I be the high school girl blinded by the love of so many different tasty flavours. Now I see menchies for who it truly is– barely working, sticky machines with some sort of residue on the inner walls and the handles. Don’t get me wrong, this would be my paradise as a child. But now, all I see is a sticky mess that I don’t want to be near for longer than a few minutes. Unlike my old self, I now only get my favourite flavour: purely tart. (Tastes like a tangy greek yogurt, yum!) & instead of loading my cup to $ 8 – 9 worth of overpriced snacks that probably come from bulk barn, I only stick with one topping (probably froot loops or some mochi)
Menchies, you’ve been a good part of my life and you’ll definitely be a great part of some other student (from UHS probably). But I’m glad our phase is over.
Ps. check the pictures of celebrities awkwardly eating menchies on the wall. (They have descriptions under the names of where they’re from for when they’re not famous enough)

I like the concept of self serve yogurt. They change the flavours up so you get to try different things at all the different locations. Decent prices and you can collect points for free yogurts. :)
They are fairly clean here and they have an open patio section which is walled off to double as a party room. They have a good amount of seats too.

What can I say about Menchies.
Think of this as your new-​age yogurt bar that allows you to personalize and get creative with your yogurt. Or what I like to think of it as your VAN GOGH of yogurt places, an open yogurt canvas for you to design.
Like most Menchie’s the lay out and its instructions are the same; Choose your size of cup, followed by the type of yogurt flavor of your choice, or if you cannot choose have the option to mix n combine flavors with one another.
Once completed its off to the condiments section. Here’s where you can add some creativity to your personalized yogurt. From colorful sprinkles, and gummy bears to various types of chocolates, cookie crumbles, and syrups.
Note to self! the first time I came here I did NOT realize they charged your yogurt based on the weight. So stupid me, I just went kamikaze on my Yogurt which put me back $ 13…ooooops… again its hard not to get carried away when you see so many options. But nonetheless whoever created menchies definitely got the last laugh… just the concept of this is fun, interactive, and its a sucker to all those sweet tooths out there. Overall great place to hang out during the summer… especially when you got the menchies for something as sweet as this!!!

Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, who doesn’t like ice cream or Frozen Yogurt as we approach the summer? Came here with a friend just recently on a nice summer day and noticed the patio is open!
Staff is super nice and I like the fact they kept their tradition where you can taste test literally all the flavours they have before buying. Selections are good, many to choose from and the selections of the toppings you can add are very broad and interesting! If you don’t know what topics to add, I recommend adding some Mochis in there! it adds a chewy feel and it does taste good!
Only downfall I would say about this place is the price IS kind of at the steeper end, but hey, once in awhile is all good right?

This place hops and the staff move quickly. This is a build your own place with lots of choices for frozen yogurt, toppings and sauces. The cups are big enough for you to get in trouble. You pay by the weight.
Two of my flavors were good. I was a bit boring and just added nuts. There are at least six types of nuts from which to choose. There is everything else to add from various types of sprinkles to candy to gummy bears. There could easily be fifty choices. There are four sauces, one of which is sugar free (yuk). They have caramel, so I was in good shape.
Every one seemed to be having a good time. The place was packed. I would hate to see this place at the height of the summer. It would be hard to get in. As good as yogurt is for me, I will stick with ice cream.

Good concept, choose and serve your own flavors and then choose and serve your own toppings. They provide sample cups to taste before serving as well. Pay by the pound. Decent flavors, but I still prefer full fat real ice cream.

I finally had a chance to try Menchie’s and unfortunately I was disappointed. I can’t put my finger on it but I just don’t like their frozen yogurt — it tastes funny to my tastebuds. I prefer TCBY or Yogurties.
I arrived on Saturday night and the shop was in complete chaos. Kids — both young and old were running around, screaming, crowding the machines /​toppings and making a mess. Maybe I’m getting old but I was getting very frustrated in the crowd and noise.
Lot’s of seating in this location but it was all full. Maybe I would enjoy the experience more when its less busy.
I tried the Red Velvet which I completely disliked. The Chocolate and Blueberry Cheesecake flavours were better but just marginally. I also tried a sample of the Smurfs yogurt but found it too sweet.
I would still recommend giving it a try so you can decide for yourself. Not my thing but I know lots of people who really like Menchies.

I’ve been here with various people about four times now. All my experience so far have been great except for the last one.
Whenever I go here, I always seem to have the following:
No sugar added Irish Mint, I always add it as the bottom of the cup because it gives a clean feeling at the end. Four out of four times I have been there, this one is always present.
The lychee bobos (exploding juice balls) are there to give my order a bit of sweet bursts while I eat.
And Mochis which give the marshmallowy chewiness without the sugar levels.
In my last run there, I just ended up with my base ingredients, because the other ones just tasted a bit off. Though like I said this was the only time.
Their waffles are good when they’re freshly made. Just fan them off a little if they are too fresh before you grab the ingredients otherwise it will melt. Wednesdays they have «free» waffles, but I haven’t tried to see if they’re ridiculously packed.
Don’t forget to get a Menchie’s card. However, if you have a $ 10 coupon go with a friend, it’s not that easy to make a $ 10 froyo, the highest I’ve gone was $ 8.50 I think.

I was with a group when we dropped by. Having gone to a similar Menchies location, I already know the product. However, I find this store better. It has a separate party area and 8 yogurt machines!!!
Even with the added varieties, I stuck with cake batter and red velvet.

I went in the summer but have yet to write a review. Menchies is a self-​serve yogurt place where your fro-​yo is charged by weight. I found their yogurt a lot better than the other fro-​yo place down the road. It’s a lot less sweet and they have a lot more variety of treats & fruits. They’ve had fro-​yo in Hong Kong since forever… I’m just glad I don’t have to fly across the continent for good fro-​yo anymore :)

It’s a good alternative if you’re looking for dessert and a place to hang out other than Bubble Tea. There’s a good selection of flavours and they rotate them depending on the season or holiday. I usually go for the fruit flavoured fro-​yo or sorbets with popping bobba. There’s lots of seating — indoors, indoor/​outdoor, outdoor seating with umbrellas and a party room in the back.
Place is clean and staff is always friendly. Lots of parking especially when Future Shop is closed for the evening.

I LOVE it here. LOVE.
My first Menchies ever and I have been back so so many times I lost count. And I bring lots of friends here. And for those who owe me drinks, I brought them here so they treat me a yogurt instead.
The weirdest combo I had was… Green Tea and Coffee. It was DELICIOUS, not lying!
I also love their Red Velvet Cake flavour. And I almost always get candy-​covered chocolates. And the bobbas. Love the bobbas!!!
I visited at these following times and saw no lineups:
7pm weekdays
5pm weekends
10:30pm weekends
As I sat there though (except at the 10:30 slot, I sat in the parking lot then because it closed at 11), people poured in at about 8−9pm weekdays and weekends.
Pretty loud, LOTS of kids, lots of chair moving because of these kids, the patio door doesn’t open sometimes, and it’s beside Future Shop so you get lots of parking space. Sorry Future Shop.
My favouritest part about Menchies: Free stickers and tattoos for the taking. I also got a Grow Your Own Sponge!
========Menchies 101========
1) Take a sampling cup (they’re in the form of ketchup cups from McD’s) to try flavours. I find that if you pull the lever all the way down and push it back up after 0.5sec, it fills the right amount.
2) Sample as many as you like until you have your perfect mix. Then fill your Menchies Cup. Add $ 1 for the waffle cup.
3) Walk to the condiments station and add whatever you’d like. Don’t put everything, it doesn’t taste great if you have too many…
4) Pay the yogurt, which is priced by its weight. Yes my friends have had it cost $ 10. Do you have a Smiles card? It’s a Menchies points card, free. Do take some free stickers and tattoos too.
5) Grab a nice little spoon and enjoy! I have kept my spoons :)

This place is certainly a cool and unique experience. Its basically a self serve frozen yogurt shop where you have the power to design your own treats! I didn’t count how many flavors they had but it was probably about 10 – 12. There are 2 flavors at each station, you can get an individual flavor or a swirl of the 2 flavors at a particular station. One thing I was a big fan of is that they have sample cups to allow you to try a flavor before you commit to it, big plus!
I opted for a little bit of everything. I got a coconut and mango swirl, some watermelon, a chocolate vanilla swirl, and a cake batter and red velvet swirl. The real jewel of this place is the topping bar which has every kind of chocolate, candy, fruit, and sweet sauces one could hope for. I topped mine with peanut butter chips, chocolate crunch sauce and some lychee jelly.
My favourite flavor was the cake batter and red velvet which was very good. however the other flavors were very disappointing. There was something about it that put me off, it did not taste natural but rather tasted like it was full of artificial flavors (I was hoping for a gelato like experience where the flavors are real and natural). The yogurt was a little too soft for my liking and melted very quickly.
Overall this is a place that kids would love, and it is certainly a worthwhile experience but it was far from the best frozen treat i have every had (frozen yogurt or otherwise). It is pretty pricey, they weigh your sundae and charge you something like 60 cents per ounce, I got a decent sized portion (not that big at all) for about $ 6. I say go there once for the experience but I would have been happier with a DQ blizzard or even an IKEA frozen yogurt.

Dairy Queen and BR’s can’t even compete! Let me start by saying the froyo is fat free! But here’s the catch… the 100 toppings available are not!
This place is the Willy Wonka factory for frozen yogurt! More flavs than you can count and the option to swirl 2 flavs together! If you’re a ice cream or frozen yogurt fan… this is a must try!

Seems like all these Frozen Yogurt places are opened near high school…
I felt like I am back in high school… in the cafeteria with all these students. even the girls at the cash are high school students!
Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt is one of the few that offers self serve samplings… there are little mini paper cups on the counter so you can sample every single flavours before you commit!
Armed with a $ 10 Team buy coupon, I able to load up as much as I want and yes for $ 10 I can get this huge cup of Fro Yo. with all the toppings I want! Just love mochi…
Great finally have Menchie’s open in the neighbourhood!

Another Menchies has opened in the GTA! This time… it’s 5 mins from my work place :) Going to love lunch breaks! Markham’s Menchies grand opening is actulally on January 21^st 2012 but the place has already been opened for approximately 3 weeks.
We went in the evening after dinner and the place was full of ppl. Remember back in the day when bubble tea was first introduced? Full of ppl… & also young asian teens :)
I have honestly never been to Menchies before last night and omg… when I saw the toppings stations I nearly died and went to heaven! There were also a lot of frozen yogurt flavours. We were allowed to use their small cups to sample a few flavours before seriously digging in :) You could get full from just taste testing! The actual cups they provide are a bit large so don’t fill it all the way up or it may temporarily blow ur budget. Mine was approx $ 4 for two flavours, 3 diff types of nuts. Prices are measured by the weight.
Love many of the flavours here. Original Tart, Cake Batter, Vanilla, Chocolate, Green Apple, Peanut Butter, Green tea, Strawberry Vanilla, etc. In the end, I picked the red velvet & hot chocolate. Oh man… ^^ Topping it off w/​some nuts. Before u want to add more toppings remind yourself it will no longer be fat free when you add… marshmallows, chocolates, brownies, peacans, reeses pcs, caramel, candies, fruits, chocolate sauce, all kinds of sauce!.. there goes the new year’s resolution!
The owner Dave is very friendly & so were his staff. I will def. be back again soon. It was delicious! ^^
