St Phillips Fine Bakeries

Went to St Phillips to pick up some Zeppole, which my wife had a craving for. Waited around while staff was talking behind the counter. Then someone asked if i needed anything and I asked for some Zeppole to which a prompt and condescending reply that «we only do those at Easter» !! In any case i had to leave Zeppoleless and went to my other favorite bakery Emily’s and sure enough they had them fresh and ready! Life saver!

Today for lunch I went to St Phillips bakery in Maple. I had chicken cutlet and fava beans.
In the middle of my lunch I saw two bugs crawling out .
I quickly killed one to show the lady at the cash .
She referred me to another lady who was in charge.
Upon showing her the large bug she kept denying it came from the food. She said it could not come from the food because the food would be too hot and it (the bugs) would die anyway.
I found her explanation weird as she did not deny bugs being there in general.
I will never eat here again.
Furthermore I should have at the very least been compensated for my food after all I ordered chicken not BUGS
I warn everyone to stay away from this place, it may look nice but its infested with bugs. PS I have called York Health dept to complain.

Great place to get cakes. You can pre-​order for pick up on their website. I love their red velvet cake; very rich and heavy; totally worth the calories. The other ones I also like are tiramisu and strawberry shortcake

They are incredibly rude there I was there for lunch with a lady who is in an electric wheelchair and wasn’t accommodating her assisting her or even moving chairs around for her and telling the people in the line to move over for her. I like maple bakery food and service better.

St. Phillip’s cheesecake is a place where you can get customized cakes on basically any design you want from blackberrys, beer bottles, coach purse bags and the miscellaneous «adult cakes». You can even add your own custom photo with an addition $ 15 when you upload it online.
The one that I tried this time was the Strawberry Cheesecake. These cakes normally cost around $ 30 for 10 – 12 serving sizes, with the exception of a few of their specialty St. Honores collections which are around 12 – 15 servings or more.
I never really used to like cheesecakes when I was small, but as I adapted to the Western culture I began to accommodate to it. Having tried different cheesecakes, the best part about this cake was the strawberries. They were giant in size, juicy and extremely sweet which may had to do with the sauce. The cake itself was fairly good with a moderately soft interior with a breadcrumb/​nut like exterior.

Awesome Pumpkin pies! Haven’t tried too many things yet but the fresh pumpkin pies are probably the best I have tasted ever!

I came here because I heard from a friend that St. Phillips has some of the best cakes in town. The bakery is bustling with tons of customers in and out. So I definitely felt I could trust that I could buy a cake here.
I bought a cake here today and to my surprise, I am extremely disappointed in the quality. We bought a small lemon yogurt cake for 22 $. Everybody in my family tried the cake and everyone’s slice was partially frozen in the centre of the slice, and the cake itself was so hard and dry! I am certain that this is a stale cake and was freezed, thawed, and probably re-​freezed as it was so unbelievably dry. This is just so upsetting, especially because it was for a family member’s birthday. I am so disappointed.

the wares are good: ice cream, danish, coffee. the quality is obvious.
but good god, the process is terrible.
there’s a sign that says we prepay for the coffee. where is the sign? not where you walk in, but on the other side of the island. so we had to fight our way back to the register at the entrance.
we ordered everything and paid. right where we’re supposed to pick up our coffee, they have 3 bar stools and people were sitting there. so i’m almost on top of this other customer’s back while squeezing my items between him and the condiments. it’s clearly a serving area, why the hell do they put chairs there ?
the girl who served us the coffee and danishes said she’d serve us the ice cream we ordered afterwards. nope. she went on to the next customer behind us instead of going to the ice cream bar like she said she would. i waited at the ice cream counter until it was absolutely clear she totally forgot about us and i had to ask the cashier to find someone else to serve the ice cream.
that person showed up eventually and served the ice cream and told me to i could pay for it at the cashier, clearly oblivious to the fact i already paid.
the price for the quality of food is fair. but my time is worth something too. if your time is worth something to you, don’t go to st. phillips. their food is good, no doubt, but not THAT good.

Dang, you know you live in the GTA (let alone work for Unilocal in the GTA) when you visit a place like this anytime you’re in the area … and then forget to review it. Three years I’ve been Unilocalin’ it up, and I forgot to tell everyone how amazing this place is.
To be perfectly honest, there isn’t a single solitary thing they do, that they don’t do to perfection. From their freshly baked breads, their tavalo calda (hot table) filled with an ongoing rotation of delectible italian eats, to their espresso/​cappuccino bar, to their pastries to their cakes… ohhhh their cakes!!!
Hands down, St Phillips has dug themselves a niche as one of the best, yes the best, places to get cakes in the GTA. Wedding, Baptism, Confirmation, Birthday or other special occasion. Heck, even if you’re driving home one night and think, shoot, I have friends coming over tonight and I need a cake — they’ve got ya covered.
My personal favourite cakes include: Lemon Yogurt cake, sfoglia cake, strawberry short cake, and my most fave (and I don’t know the name) but it’s got chocolate and coffee flavours. It literally makes my pants move… sorry for the overshare, but it’s true. Unreal.
That said, I love their cakes, but every year when they’re in season, the Zepploe made by St Phillips are easily the best made anywhere in the 905… maybe even all of Toronto.
They’ve got two locations in Vaughan area, but this one is definitely the best. Check them out this weekend… shoot check them out every weekend. I love it, you will too!

I have been a client of this bakery for a number of years, but I am sure something has changed. It was great the first few years but not anymore. Classic case of spoiled kids taking over parents’ successful business. To make a long story short, THEY SPOILED MY 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER’S BIRTHDAY CAKE which I ordered and paid in full for 10 days in advance. Paid extra for scanning and decorations. The cake came with zero decorations and of course that was already the day of the party, nothing could be done. I would have still been ok if they had apologized BUT not only did they NOT apologize, they blamed me! Saying that the pics I sent could not be scanned. (side note: I have been doing the scans the same way for my older sons for the last 5 years) I said, well then, why didn’t you call me? They claimed that they did call, but come on, now a days, that’s no such thing as missed calls, call display on all of my phones. THEY NEVER CALLED. So I still gave them the benefit of the doubt and checked if they had the correct number, yes, that was the number!!! Still no apologies. That’s all I wanted for ruining my daughter’s birthday cake. At that point I was very mad with all the lies, what did they do? Offered me a $ 20 CREDIT for future use!!! OMG! Just the cake alone was $ 80. By the way, it’s the original owner’s son that I was talking to the whole time. Anyway, I will never go back, it’s a shame to see this bakery go down like this. As a business owner myself, I feel bad for his parents.
Business owners out there, apologize for your mistakes and you will not lose a client and many more because of bad reviews.

One of my favourite bakeries! Must try!

I have been to this location a number of times, and yesterday has put the final nail in the coffin. The rating has been given on service alone, as for the food, always so delicious and unfortunately I will not be going back to indulge. If you are going to hire adolescents to run your joint, then they should be well versed in client services rather than enjoying idle chatter with friends hanging out or rolling of the eyes when a question is asked. If you don’t like working there then why are you there? My experience yesterday was incredibly revolting, as I was in the area much earlier than anticipated and decided to have an espresso (which was terrible) and perhaps a desert… well when I went to the counter to wait while another patron paid and left, the employee who knew I had been standing there walked away, rolled her eyes and continued a conversation with a «friend» who seemed to have irritated her slightly, perhaps a broken romance, or teenage hormones, nonetheless I was appalled. I waited there for 2 minutes, and then proceeded to walk to another area in the back where I asked another employee to help me, and he was very apologetic, but I was annoyed at this point. This is an experience I have had a number of times, not with the same employee but with numerous disgruntled staff that seem to be in another universe rather than doing what they are paid to do — service the patrons that pay your salary! Regardless, never again and at this point fire that girl.

The fact that there is CP24 and TVs on whatever channels does help with the certain VIBE.
Cappuccino ($ 2.50) always A-​OK.
Sweets or a quick croissant always tasted good. There are so many to choose from: plain, sweet (almond, chocolate) and savory (ham & cheese, pepperoni, broccoli, sausage roll, pizza bun, prosciutto roll.)
I wondering when I will be back again, but it will be soon!

Really good bakery, the atmosphere is very warming and European like.

I have been frequenting St. Phillips Bakery for years. First was for the freshly baked bread and cold cuts, delicious pastries and cookies. Over the years, for all our memorable occassions we would order their decadent cakes all decorated according to my specific instructions. All those cakes and various flavours forever a part of the sensory memory.
Yesterday was my birthday and I was given the
Lemon Yogurt Cake… My favorite… Light sponge cake made with real lemons… simply delicious!!!
Now the latest technology system is in place. When you order a cake a file is opened under your name and a record of all the cakes previously ordered are recorded. No need to worry if you loose your order number it’s easy to trace with your phone number.
Oh and I forgot to mention the Hot Table. Great food for lunch?

The good the bad and the ugly…

The bad. Pizza .meh. I caught flack
from a friend because the crust was like paper. He asked me «where is the crust». I like thin crust too but this is ridiculous.
The ugly. It’s mayhem inside. Nonnas in my way everywhere you step…
First and last.

Bakery goods and deli are solid. This review focused on hot table. Food here is over priced. Portions are ok but prices are terribly inflated for what you get. Service staff can be good at times, yet rude cashiers ruin the experience. When questioning prices one cashier told me «they weren’t her prices». Gee, thanks. If you want standard Italian hot table food and the felling of getting ripped off this is your place. Comparable hot tables in the area give you WAY MORE for much less.

The décor is very pleasant and it just smells great, the way only a bakery can. I go there mostly for the hot table which has a good variety of food, all of which is delicious. My only complaint is that the food isn’t warm at all which is a shame.
It’s also quite pricey, but is worth it unless you’re planning to order a lot.

I walked in feeling like I was transported into a small and busy european-​décor marketplace. First section I saw was some beautiful Pastries (Cannoli, Tarts, Puffs, Cookies), Secondly the Deli meat section, Third was a decent selection of fresh Breads.
When I almost finished the LOOP around, I saw the Café area where I saw a few people having an espresso or cappucinno. After the Café was the Hot food area which if I remembered correctly was called ‘Bocadillo’ where they had a variety of Italian meals such as Foccacia selection, Peppers & Sausages, Pastas and their Weekly Special (I had the Porchetta Sandwich).
Bocadillo was a school cafeteria style where you ask for your item and move along the line towards the cash register, then walk over to the dining area where there might still be leftover dishes and drinks if the young man looking after the area hasn’t clean up the tables yet.
When I was enjoying my Porchetta Sandwich, I thought to myself that this would be a good place to bring a friend for coffee & dessert outside of the lunch/​dinner rushes. It had a certain VIBE to it that can allow you to chat while watching people come in and out holding boxes of pastries and breads.
BTW, I liked the Porchetta which was still JUICY but if they gave a few pieces of crackling that would be over the top. The bread that came with it was just as good if not better.
My next visit will be for the Pastries!
