Longtime Haligonians will all remember a sweet little place called Le Cave, where diners would sit at tables tucked away in little nooks and crannies within a restaurant that tunnels through the basement of a downtown building. Their specialty? Cheesecakes. The best cheesecakes in the city, actually. When they closed, we were left with a bit of a void. Well, cityslickers, just a short drive from the city, tucked away in my favourite Nova Scotian town, you can find all the goodness of Le Cave’s glory days at The Cheesecake Gallery in Mahone Bay, operated by the original owners. This charming little house holds just a handful of tables, so you may have to wait a bit, while a gorgeous garden patio welcomes diners with four-legged friends in tow. The menu has lighter fare than most spots in Mahone Bay that cater to folks looking for east coast style pub food, but the salads, soups and sandwiches are fresh, flavourful and filling enough to get you through the drive home without risk of a food coma. But who really cares about the mealtime food right? Just order a cheesecake and be glad you did.

This is an amazing place to come and while away an afternoon. The Cheesecake Gallery typically seems to have 5 – 6 cake options as well as some awesome local art for you to peruse while you enjoy your dessert. The tiered floor plan along with nooks and crannies creates a neat gallery feel and also allows you to enjoy your dessert without feeling as though you are eating in the middle of an art show. I assume that The Cheesecake Gallery serves other food as well but really, why err from the specialty?
