A quaint coffee shop in the heart of Wortley Village. Friendly service, good prices and an excellent latte. Seating inside and out.

Well I don’t usually like to give a negative review but I was less than impressed this afternoon. I had the Greek lemon chicken soup which was tasty and then my friend and I shared a fig bar. That was good. My displeasure was mainly with the service. Not very friendly or welcoming. No wifi and bad signal. Not a repeat for me unfortunately.

I just love the look of this café! Perfect place for a coffee date or to meet up with a girlfriend. Also has a nice big patio for the summer. Except when I was there in the summer there was so many bees we had to move inside. Service was good. I had a latte which was as expected. I tried a cruffin which is a cross between a croissant and a muffin. A neat pastry idea and very tasty but so so sweet. Will definitely return.

One of our favourite places for lunch in the neighbourhood. My husband loves their coffee(I’m not a coffee drinker) and we both love their spinach pie. The staff are friendly as well which makes for a nice lunch experience.

Baked items are excellent, the cruffin is unique! Coffee is good as well. Service is fast. What limits me from going to this establishment is the sense they want to rush me out. Another concern is the constant bad mouthing of other local establishments. I drink a lot of coffee and am happy to support all local businesses equally. Local businesses should support each other. So to sum up, product is great but the owner needs to learn some people skills. Hey owner, if you don’t like people then don’t run a business like this.

What a cute and cozy Café! Its got a very nice and casual environment in a very quaint area of London. They had a nice selection of baked goods. I split a fruity scone with a friend and it was delicious. The coffee is good, but I haven’t been to many places in london so I don’t have much to compare it to. I had a latte, it wasn’t the greatest but it’s basically on par with the Starbucks of the world. They had a pretty decent selection of teas. The seating was nice, with a small hidden area in the back. I really like the location of this place, it’s perfectly situated on a street corner which suits it quite well. I’d go back again.

Café is nice to sit. Speciality coffee is always luke warm which is totally annoying when u r paying 5+ bucks a coffee. Even have asked for it to be HOT but after 5xs i don’t go there anymore. Observing the door there it is NOT mother(with strollers) friendly. They seemed totally annoyed while I was watching on every occasion when I was there when a mom came in with one. It’s just too bad there is only one café in the village now.

Everyone has a favourite café. This is mine. The baked goods, made in-house daily, are great and the atmosphere is perfect for sitting with a friend and catching up. You pay a bit of a premium, but the product is premium, including the coffee. The Black Walnut carries Patrick’s Beans(as of summer 2015), a local purveyor of fine roasted coffee and a supporter of local charities, so I appreciate the well-rounded community aspect of the bakery’s relationships. The only reasons I won’t give them five stars are 1) the decaf can be a little hit-or-miss… it’s usually good, but sometimes it tastes a little old as though they are unwilling to freshen the pot and 2) on one occasion I felt staff was trying to rush us out of the outdoor seating, though we had literally just finished the last mouthful of our coffees. Based on what is usually a great experience, I will acknowledge these moments as anomalies. Our experience here is almost always exceptional.

Great coffee and specialty drinks. Also one of my favorite places to grab a treat such as the most delicious muffins I’ve had ever. The staff is very nice even when there is a huge line.

Delicious coffee, specialty drinks and food. My friend and I had chocolate banana bread and a curry chicken sandwich. We really enjoyed the food and drinks and will definitely be back. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere for coffee with a friend or date.

No wifi. How is that even possible. Decent otherwise, but really no wifi? It’s like a pizza joint without pepperoni.

Their service is great, and the baked goods are fantastic. Just had a croissant muffin with rhubarb and ginger custard — incredible!

All the food is made in-house. It makes a nice change from other coffee shops, who import their food items frozen or pre-made. Great coffee as well. I enjoy their mild roast. It’s located the heart of a neighbourhood that seems almost out of a broadway musical, with the friendly faces and hat-tipping, you can ensure there is prime people watching, while you enjoy a Jamaican patty, and a score-bar brownie.

Finally a place in London that takes coffee seriously(you’re pretty good too, Fire Roasted). Had an Americano and date square and both were perfect. I can’t wait to go back to try more things, especially that pumpkin tart. The location can’t be beat. I wish I had visited Wortley Village before I moved here, because it’s one of the cooler neighbourhoods I’ve seen in London. It’s a small town that’s literally 10 minutes to downtown by walk. And it reminds me so much of some of the smaller boroughs in Montréal.

I was here for the first time yesterday and chose this place soley based on Unilocal reviews. I searched for coffee shops/bakeries with outdoor seating and this place was ranked #1 for coffee in London. I like trying local places rather than always buying my coffee at franchise coffee shops. I ordered a latte and a rhubarb coffee cake and enjoyed a friend’s company outside in the sunshine. It’s definitely a very nice and inviting place. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. Wortley Village is a really cute place to meet up with a friend for a cup of coffee or for dinner and take a walk afterwards. I definitely recommend it.

Coffee and baked goods are excellent but the staff doesn’t seem that friendly or happy to be there at all. Improved attitude would greatly improve the ambiance here!

Great little find in Wortley Village! Over the years I have become a fan of trendy hip cafes in vibrant communities, and the Black Walnut is one! This place makes lunches, sandwiches, pizza, and most importantly is known for the coffee and desserts. The atmosphere is great, very quaint, and the desserts are very appealing and desirable. For anyone coming to London make sure to visit Wortley Village!

Met a friend here for coffee and a scone, so while there were many yummy-looking things in the pastry window I am basing my review on these items alone. Atmosphere: this is a cute little place. It was busy, but we managed to snag a table. They have a patio and it was a nice day so it was full. I imagine it can get very busy inside in the winter and when it rains. Service: The baristas were very friendly and helpful. The ordering process was a little confused, but they made it work. Coffee: I had a plain ol’ light roast coffee, black(as it should be). The coffee was tasty and smooth, but nothing too exciting. Definitely better than Starbucks and miles above Tim Horton’s, though. Snack: I had an oatmeal and date scone at the server’s suggestion. It was good, but not the kind of «holy crap this is good» that I normally hope for when I decide to spend the calories on a baked good in a café. It was a bit dry, and more biscuity than sconey to me. I’d be happy to come back and try some of the other items(quiches, frittatas… it all looked good!) and wouldn’t hesitate to suggest Black Walnut for a coffee stop in London.

I came in to meet a couple of my friends to knit/crochet because taking up hobbies that your grandma takes up is the cool thing to do. This cozy little café has a really friendly staff and decent prices for their product. The only real reason I can’t give them a five star is because they don’t have comfy seating. I know it sounds ridiculous, but comfy seating is important to me in a cozy café. I have to say though, I haven’t really found anywhere in London that has that, so if you happen to be reading this and know somewhere, message me. … and if the owner of black walnut happens to be reading this, you should invest in some couches to appease me. You don’t have to though, I’m just suggesting is all
