I’ve had a bit of a love-​hate relationship with this A&P. One the one hand, it’s open twenty-​four hours, so I could hardly complain about finding a convenient time to buy groceries. It was also a good way to load up on Air Miles. On the other hand, the prices are generally high, despite the occasional fantastic loss-​leader.
The selection is so-​so, and the cashiers weren’t always up on what the store carried. For instance, I bought radicchio here, and on more than one occasion, the check-​out girl had no idea what it was.
She’d ask, «Uh, what is this?» I’d say, «Radicchio.»
“Radi-​what?“
I roll my eyes. «It’s like red lettuce.» So what did she do? Punch it in as «Red lettuce»!
