I haven’t been to the Happy In since the late 1980s. It still seems to be in its«new» location, having moved there in the 1980s. Yes, indeed, I don’t think much has been done with the place in 25+ year. Luckily«nothing» has been done to the excellent Canadian Chinese food that brought me and my friends to this place in the 1980s from Windsor. The won ton soup is excellent, each bowl coming with two slices of tender BBQ pork. The egg rolls are huge. The chicken soo guy is about the best I’ve ever found. Yep, you’re not going to find Rangoon or Sichuan or Hunan anything on the menu. You’re going to find all your classic Canadianized Chinese foods. And, damn, it’s going to taste good. Oh yeah, this place is open until 3 am on Friday and Saturday.

Staff: 5 stars Food: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars Bathrooms: 2 stars First of all, I’m not a Chinese food connoisseur, but I do enjoy good north-americanized chinese food a couple times a month. Most of the dishes seemed too salty for my liking, and the deep fried items literally drip with grease. The chicken balls were awesome though, and some of the vegetable dishes were ok. Everyone else at my table seemed to enjoy it, so it all depends on your preference. The ambiance was lacking, they could benefit from a refresh(paint, carpet etc) The bathrooms were worn down looking, moderately clean, but smelt like moth balls. They say you can judge a restaurant kitchen from the state of the bathrooms… yikes. The wait staff were excellent though, no complaints there. Overall, i wouldnt come back, but I’d recommend giving it a try. Definitely not somewhere to take a first date, probably better suited for take-out.

I asked a few woman before entering how the food is and they said excellent and that they come monthly. This is a sit down/carryout restaurant. I knew i was in trouble when the only appetizers were soup and egg rolls. Usually your food comes out quickly. Soup, egg roll and main course took an hour to come out. The place wasn’t that crowded. I asked if they had appetizers like crab rangoon or cream cheese puff and they said no. When a place doesn’t give you fortune cookies with your bill but charges 20cents for them what else can you say. The wonton soup gets a 2.5, egg roll a 1.5, fried rice a 2 and main dish 2. I ordered the happy In special: shrimp, chicken, pork sauteed with mixed vegetables. The shrimp were small and the brown mystery sauce was bland and watered down. Recommendation avoid the place unless you are dying for something resembling Chinese food. Haven’t found another one in town that is open. I have driven by 2 closed establishments.
