Waka Sushi is very easy to get to off the highway, but the sushi itself is fairly standard. It would make a nice quick stop before a movie next door.

My coworker and I preordered food on phone at 12:45pm weeks ago. The waitress at Waka Sushi said that the food would be ready for pickup after 20 mins, so my coworker and I arrived the restaurant at 1:05pm. We had been waiting for the food till 1:30pm! Only one waitress was working by herself serving all the customers. She totally ignored us that unfortunately we had to pay for the food, because we had already preordered them. We were at the restaurant waiting since 1:05pm. The chef had not made any of our food until we rushed them. The waitress kept saying«5 mins». 5 mins after 5 mins… The food was still not ready yet. Customers were also waiting for her service at the restaurant. In conclusion, the food was okay but the service was very bad. The restaurant should have hired at least one or more servers to help out during the busy lunch hours. The service was really not acceptable! I am sorry!

My girlfriend and I decided to go here for dinner before our movie. OMGITWAS A TERRIBLEEXPERIENCE!!! The service and quality of food was the worst we’ve ever experienced at a sushi restaurant. We decided to keep it simple and order party tray A. All the sushi on the plate was coming unraveled and falling apart. The tuna and salmon nigiri was very stringy and unpleasant to eat, and the ebi nigiri was like biting into rubber. Our waitress brought us our food and never returned and there were only three tables for her to look after. I had to raise my voice a little while saying excuse me for the third time just to get her over for a tea top up and our bill. Let’s just say we will never return.

The first time I went to eat here I told myself that I would never come back however, I gave this place a second chance after I heard the owner had changed and it was absolutely wonderful. The food was spectacular and the service was unbelievable. The new staff was so kind and seemed so happy to work there. Definitely recommend! This place deserves to be crawling with customers!

Had come here with a client, wish I knew Langley /Surrey better so I could’ve made a suggestion to go elsewhere. Oh well at least I could add it to my list. Arrived around 1245pm on a Thursday, wasn’t that busy inside, maybe 4 tables of patrons. Not a really large place, fits maybe 10 – 114 person tables. Nothing special about the décor so we’ll go straight to the sushi review. Ordered their House Roll, a piece of Toro Sushi, Unagi Sushi, Ikura Sushi, and a Delight Sushi(spicy chirashi nigiri). Overall not a horrible experience, glad my stomach survived, and here’s why… Unagi Sushi: Aside from the sauce, I tasted very lil from this sushi, the Unagi was a bit chewier than normal, no fatty texture or taste from it, possibly overcooked? Delight Sushi: Supposed to be chirashi, a mixture of all sorts of fish and sometimes squid and other stuff, however it looked like a pile of spicy tuna piled on top of rice, and honestly was only able to taste tuna when I took a bite. Toro Sushi: Wasn’t too bad, a bit fatty, a bit smooth, a bit«oily», basic stuff you would expect from a piece of toro sushi. Nothing to write home about(however something to write to Unilocal about I guess). Ikura Sushi: DONOTORDERTHIS! I should’ve been more careful, however so glad I survived haha or rather my stomach survived. I looked like it was scraped from the bottom of the tray, most eggs were broken and melted together, when I picked up the piece there was a small puddle of ikura juice/slime on the plate, as it had soaked through the entire bottom layer of rice. Against my better judgement, I put it into my mouth, ugh… tasted slimy, sticky, a weird metallic flavor. had to wash down with tea. Rushed home after my client meeting as I wasn’t sure when I was going to need the safety and sanctity of my own washroom. Oh…and to end on a good note, the House Roll was just smoked salmon on top of what looked like a California roll… but then upon closer inspection, you can see ever so small… a piece of something else… they said it was Black Tiger Crab… shrugs, tasted alright I guess. Venture here at your own risk. I gave 2 stars cause the Toro and House Roll were«ok» and the server was nice, attentive, and spoke relatively fluent English.

They forgot to put in our order because one of the servers was so english challenged she needed help and between the two of them they forgot to send it to the kitchen. We sat there for 45 minutes being ignored, then said we were going to be late for our movie and it’s like they had never seen us before. We had to leave before we ate and was still late for the movie. The food is decent(eaten there before) but I wouldn’t do anything but takeout.

After movies we decided to go eat some sushi. Because this place was so close and reviews were fine we decided to give it a try. Place was small and packed. They served us tea, that was basically hot water, I asked them to replace it, and even apologized for not liking it, they brought me water instead… Ok, then miso soup arrived, with no spoon. I waited 5 min, then asked for a spoon cause I figured they forgot. Then we waited and waited, people who came after us already got their orders and we are still with no food. Then waitress girl came to us looking very concerned and said to wait«maybe 5 minutes», and offered free miso soup. Thank you, but I don’t want another soup, I want sushi. OK, now I see, they forgot about our order! We received our rolls(with one roll missing) after 40 minutes of waiting. EVERYONE who came 15 min after us already ate their food. Well, speaking of food — it was not the worst, but very average. I asked the waitress to give us a discount for that we waited so long, she said she could take out miso soup from our receipt(1,50 $)… seriously?! There was no manager to talk to and she offered to give us a free California roll that I originally ordered but they forgot to bring… OK, I’m not a conflict person(and all conversations were quiet), I agreed. When I went to pay, debit machine just gave ONLY options with tips, it’s programmed this way that you CAN’T tip your own percentage or not to tip at all. That’s when I(first time in my life) asked how can I pay without tips, they were not happy about it at all! Girl took machine, pressed something and gave it to me without looking at me, I finally had no tips on the screen. They were so pissed they left me there with no bye, no thank you, nobody even looked if my payment went through… Well I said THANKYOU out loud and left. BOTTOMLINE. They are pretty busy(only because of location) and understaffed, none of them knows English very good and therefore communication is very poor, they don’t want to take a responsibility for their mistakes, they don’t know what good customer service is. I don’t recommend you to go there, drive someplace you already know.

Had a wonderful experience here. We came early on a Thursday night, so it was empty! Out server was very friendly and happy to see us. We quickly got our drinks and as soon as we both had decided on our orders she appeared at our table. She also swooped in when I dropped a chopstick and replaced it before I could say anything! Serving sizes are very generous, with the fish on any nigiri hiding all traces of rice beneath. I was enamoured by the shrimp dumplings which had whole shrimp inside with the tails sticking out. So yummy! I was stuffed long before I finished the ladies dinner combo I ordered. Four stars because I felt the meal slightly expensive, and wish they had a smaller combination for us smaller appetites who nonetheless love the variety of a bento box.

I have come here a few times and know others that swear by it. The sushi is good but if I have to deal with argumentative service I will never be back. We had to ask for menus, cutlery, napkins, tea etc. I ordered the assorted sashimi and customized it to only wild salmon and tuna which we’ve done before. She got the order wrong and it came with farmed. I sent it back and said no I asked for wild. She came back to tell me about the charges. I said no we aren’t charged extra. She served me the plate while we had no soy sauce dishes so we waited some more. I asked for gluten free which they use to have she told me they don’t. Then she proceeded to come back again and argue with me again. Worst customer service ever. She also charged my sister for the avocado for her baby. Which would be fine if it wasnt for the whole roll!!! We also got cucumber for the baby as well and she charged a kapa roll for that too??? This woman is out to lunch. I told her to leave us alone and not come back after proceeding to argue. Needless to say I will never go back. Worst experience ever. There are plenty of restaurants that are far better for sushi without taking abuse from yhe server as well as the poor hospitality.

Friendly service, delicious food and convenient location has made Waka a fave place for my friends and me. We love to come here before a movie or even just to drop in for a bite to eat for lunch on the weekend!
