The company operated out of Montréal, Quebec until 2007. At that point it transferred to British Columbia. The original name was BPW & Associates and changed to Strategic Marketing Montréal in 2001. In 2008, the name was changed to SMM Internet Marketing Consultants.

The President of SMM is Barry Welford. He was in business in Montréal for many years and is now a British Columbia resident. He is completely bilingual. He has extensive international business experience, particularly in marketing and has degrees from Cambridge and London in the U.K.
Barry is well known in the search engine marketing world and many know his writings through the various SMM blogs.
