History
Established in 2005.
I’ve had students since I was 14! I had 2 10 year olds. I taught in a music store in high school, and when I was going to music college. I’ve always had students when I wasn’t on the road. When I worked in the «music industry» I always arranged my schedule so I could keep 10 – 15 students. When I worked in the guitar industry I did the same. When I decided to make a big change in 2005, my wife urged me to go full time. «You’ve always had a waiting list» she reminded. I jumped in with both feet and was full within the first 3 months. Then I realized that all these guitar players wanted to play in a band, but needed a facilitator. Rock School was born in 2006 and we’ve been going great guns since then. I’ve had as many as 9 bands in one summer. We have an amazing show every Nov. that’s open to the public.

I’ve been a player my whole adult life, I’ve done every kind of gig you can imagine, and have played with hundreds of musicians. I’ve played country music in a crappy bar in Northern BC, and in a punk band in the late 70′s. I played in a reggae band at Expo 86 and was part of a production company that made commercials and soundtracks for film. I still take lessons myself and have rediscovered the love of jazz I developed as a young music student at Grant MacEwan in Edmonton. The cool thing about having all this experience is that I’ve played everything and love it all.
My philosophy is to encourage and nurture the love of music. I adjust the direction of the lesson by starting with what the student likes-what inspired them in the first place-then gradually allowing them to realize how the theory (the language of music) works within this context.
