I was in the area for business. I decided to check this place out for some sushi after reading awesome reviews. I love Sashimi and I eat them all the time. I ordered their sashimi bento box. It was ok. I’ve had better in Toronto. As I was leaving the restaurant, I had a bizarre discomfort in my stomach. The next thing you know, I had the runs! I’ve had this kind of immediate reaction in the past after sipping hot chocolate that I purchased at Costco, but this was so unusual. I’m not allergic to Sashimi or anything, so I don’t know if they served fish that are not fresh or something. Some of them did smell a bit fishy, but I didn’t think too much about it when I ate them. The lunch came to about 15 dollars(including tax and tip). I don’t think I would go back there again.

As promised, I returned to Niko Niko for lunch. This place is so good it leaves you craving for more! The lunch menu offers similar varieties as the dinner menu for a great prices! Most combos are around $ 10. The sashimi lunch combo was $ 11.99. Here, the 6pc tempura and 3pc salmon sushi were missing(in comparison to the dinner sashimi box $ 20.99) but still came with a generous portion size. Instead, the lunch special included 3pc California roll and 2pc gyoza with 9pc sashimi(versus 11pc for dinner). My boyfriend ordered the Today’s roll with 5pc assorted sushi combo for $ 9.99. The today’s special was the crunchy roll, a typical dynamite roll with tempura shrimp in the center. The roll was expertly crafted, and tasters amazing. My only comment is that the presentation could have been better. Seems like a couple of pieces of sushi just placed on a plate… All lunch items come with miso soup and salad. Overall, this place is still amazing! I would recommend all sushi lovers in the area to go check it out!

My partner and I were here last night for dinner. It’s been a few years since I’ve been here and it seems like nothing has changed. The menu and quality of food has remained the same which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our server was pleasant and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered the Niko Niko Roll and Roll of the Day, which was the 911 including 6 assorted sushi pieces. The portions were good and each roll stated off with a salad and miso soup. If you are looking for a quality sushi a la carte restaurant, we would highly recommend giving this family restaurant a try. However, that being said, I’ve walked by this restaurant on numerous occasions and have found it closed during business hours.

This was our latest sushi stop on our quest to find the best sushi in KW. We were pretty impressed. The atmosphere was nice and the service was top notch — our green tea cups were never a millimeter less than full. The selection was smaller than many sushi restaurants, but what they did serve was done well. The sunomono salad, Hawaiian roll(tuna and avocado on top of a California), Crunch roll(shrimp tempura), and chicken teriykai were all delicious. Their rolls are sliced thinner than most other restaurants, which on the one hand makes them a bit more delicate but on the other hand makes them much easier to eat without looking like a squirrel hoarding acorns in its cheeks. I did find myself missing some of the more basic rolls like salmon rolls and avocado cucumber rolls, which were lacking on its menu. I’ll likely come back here again though when I’m in the mood for some good specialty rolls.

I’ve been going here for around 10 years now. I have tried almost ever other sushi place in the tri-city area and this will always be the best in my opinion. Quality over quantity :)

We have a winner! Finally, a worthy replacement for Dake! Fresh fish, fun roll combinations, thick cut sashimi, and sushi not overstuffed with rice. Generous portions with bonus soup, salad and tea. Clean, bright, simple restaurant with friendly efficient staff.(And an awesome mural of Venice! LOL!) Definitely our new«go to» place for sushi in KW!

Very good value: affordable price, large portion, and tasty food. A very quiet environment with nice service. The menu, however, is somewhat limited, and you don’t see a lot of customers here. Overall recommended.

Delicious a la carte sushi for a very good price! My absolute favorite is the ‘love love’ roll, which is made with copious amounts of salmon sashimi. The sushi is fresh, a generous size, and very well made and plated. I’ve ordered the takoyaki as well, and it was very tasty too. They also have a daily deal where they include 5 fish sushi if you order a certain roll. I think my boyfriend got the ‘crunch roll’ which is aptly named. All orders come with a miso soup and a salad too!

This is probably my favourite sushi spot in the region. I got the 911 roll, which was delicious and only slightly spicy. All the rolls come with soup and salad but I decided to upgrade to the udon soup for $ 2. It comes with a tiny little bit of seafood and soft tempura bits(I think?) inside. The udon soup broth was great so I chugged that down, which is something I usually refrain from doing for health reasons. Couldn’t resist in this case. The salad was kind of gross but let’s ignore that because the takoyaki here is AMAZING. Definitely one of the best I’ve had anywhere in the world. The octopus was soft, the bonito flakes were present, and the takoyaki sauce was proper. All in all the food was good and so was the service(maybe because the restaurant was kind of dead on a Tuesday night). The portions are very good considering they include soup and salad with even just a specialty roll order.

Amazing sushi, way better than all you can eat(it’s a la carte, which they are clear about on the door!). Lunch ends at 3 and then they close for a couple hours. Since I ate there the first time I’ve been at least once a week with coworkers! Lunch is definitely an amazing deal, you get the«special» roll of the day and 5 pieces of great, fresh sushi for like $ 11. Comes with miso soup, green tea, and house salad. You’ll be full, sushi is better than other places, and you won’t hate yourself for eating way to much terrible sushi at an all you can eat joint. Hawaiian and 911 roll are both crazy good, and the sushi is the best I’ve had in KW since we lost Dake.

Very rude staff! Unfair that the table beside us got special treatment and extra food just because they are regulars. Very unprofessional.

We went to Dake Sushi and noticed that the place was abandoned! Now where? As we drove down King Street we noticed Niko Niko and stopped in. We did not want an All You Can Eat, so this place was perfect. I had the Rainbow Roll Sushi. The fish was very fresh and tasted good. My partner had the bento box and also was good. Would recommend this place and will come again.

We had a great time once again at Niko Niko. They have a handwritten sign on the door that says«we are not all you can eat.» I think that’s a shame they feel they have to put that sign up because you will be fed plenty for less than you would pay at the nearby AYCE. We enjoyed tempura for appetizer, the boston roll and the baked volcano roll for our main. The boston had great texture and was delicious — the volcano, although somewhat difficult to manage with chopsticks was also delicious. It was lots of food! The wait staff was very attentive and cheerful. I have and will eat there again.

I just gave this place a second chance, I got sick the last time I ate here. I’m very disappointed with how they handle errors. I ordered to go and felt rushed while I was checking that there were no fish eggs. When I got home it was the wrong roll. When I called the store the owner refused to make me the right thing or refund me. This is the first time I have had a problem here, but I won’t be returning due to the very negative experience. I paid $ 14 for vegetables in a roll. Edit: I was thinking about the time I got sick and found thishttp://checkit.regionofwaterloo.ca/portal/Inspection/Details/9fc23a9e-c4ae-4cef-a2d3-a157cd9d660a

Not bad! On a 4 day business trip to Waterloo/Kitchener I ate here twice. It’s definitely decent sushi and since I’m from the Bay Area in California, I feel this statement has twice as much weight as someone who is from a landlocked part of the country. Niko Niko has a lot of selection, from sashimi and tempura to some pretty crazy rolls. Each day of the week a roll will be on sale so check the board behind the sushi counter to see what’s discounted. Dishes will typically come with a salad(loved the dressing) and miso soup. The rolls are pretty hefty — I was full eating two of them and one plus an appetizer might be better. It’s around 9 – 12 for each. Came here on a weekday and there was no line and service was quite prompt so it wasn’t very crowded. I’d recommend stopping by if you’re in the area and looking for a solid meal.

I’ve been to Niko Nikos for a few years now and the food is consistently awesome with good presentation. By far this is the better sushi in the KW area. However, the reason I am giving a lower rating is because their hours of operation doesn’t match with reality. Been there a few times where the place was closed an hour early. My friend and I, and another couple we ran into, made a wasted trip one night. The couple said they called ahead too! The owners and their daughter aren’t pleasant to you unless you are a regular.

I’ve been to Niko Niko quite a few times through my years in Waterloo. It’s one of the«better» sushi places in town. While the quality of food is decent, nothing really stands out. It’s a Japanese restaurant run by Koreans. The appetizer salad has a touch of vinegar and spice, which I really enjoyed. When it comes to rolls and sushi I feel that the fish could be fresher. Nice, relaxing ambience, conveniently located in downtown Kitchener(pretty close to Charles street terminal if I remember it right). Decent price, mediocre service. That being said if I’m in town I wouldn’t mind stopping by for a bite.

Please keep in mind that this is a 4* relative to sushi available in Waterloo, Ontario. I really enjoyed the place and will return. The fish tasted fresh, especially the salmon. I thought it was better than Watami. The rolls are huge so you definitely do not have to order as many as you would in other sushi places.

Excellent little place in the heart of downtown Kitchener! Although service can be a bit slow, the food is absolutely worth the wait. After ordering, miso soup and salad were served. The salad was very fresh and very different. It wasn’t the usual Thousand Island sauce or vinaigrette sauce. It was very tangy, with a slight wasabi flavour to it. I found the miso soup to be lacking in flavour. My friend and I shared two rolls — Love Love and Grand Canyon. The chef definitely had his creative hat on when crafting these rolls. The Love Love roll(spicy tuna, salmon, masago) was very unique. The Grand Canyon roll(eel, cooked salmon, cream cheese, tempura bits) was absolutely epic. The roll was baked just before serving. The tempura bits were very crunchy and it had such a different texture!

After hearing so much about«Niko Niko» from different people, I finally ventured to this restaurant with a friend. First, they served us the salad — which I thought was going to be similar to any other salad. However, there was a little kick to the salad dressing — I believe they might have added some wasabi. The miso soup was similar to other miso soups. The sushi rolls came by quite quickly. We ordered the Niko Niko roll(cream cheese, masago, and what I believe also included soft shell crab) and the Love Love roll(spicy tuna, salmon, masago). It was absolutely delicious. Both were quite filling, and the bill came out to be about $ 25 or so. The plating of the sushi was impeccable — I was surprised about how they nice plated out the sushi and garnished it as well. Service was so-so, but I didn’t expect much out of a small Japanese/Korean restaurant. Great place to go to, and will definitely go again!
