The Burbs Pub & Eatery

I went here for lunch for a co-​workers birthday. Very casual atmosphere — we were the only people in the restaurant.
I got a hamburger with fries (substituted a poutine).
The burger was average. They said on the menu it’s homemade. However (my opinion) it looks like a frozen patty. The burger was basically perfectly shaped and sized. What you would see from a frozen burger not homemade. Flavor wise it was OK — moist — but I have definitely had better. Also it came dry so you had to add all the condiments yourself. And anything cheese, bacon etc was $ 1.00 each extra. That adds up.
Poutine & Fries were really good — no complaints there. The fries were almost chip truck fries and really good. The fries alone (without the cheese/​gravy) were my favorite part of the meal.
Over all I found it pricy for a perfectly below average meal. Will I go back? Probably not unless it’s another work lunch and it’s not my choice.
I also find it weird it’s a pub — that serves pub food — then suddenly there is all the Thai food on the menu. It doesn’t really mesh.

Thought I’d try breakfast here since I remembered the coffee tasting so good. Prices are slightly higher then simple diner places. I selected the Burbs special with comes with a pancake. If you’re looking at the burbs special and don’t care for the pancake save 2.50 and look at the 2 egg special under the Pint Size portion of the menu. My wife ordered the 2 egg one that I mentioned and they looked exact except for the 1 pancake I got which I could have not had.
Service wise it could have been better. The server walking around with the coffee carafe walked by me a few times despite filling the tables behind and in front of me. Empty cup clearly visibile. We asked the server if the Sausage could be split or butterflied. She enthusiastically replied sure however clearly that was sarcasm cause the sausages did not come split. Our server checked in us once and the next time we saw her was too clear our plates bring us the bill and take the money.
There are cheaper alternatives with better prices and better service however this place is OK

Nice little neighbourhood pub and eatery.
Typical fare on the menu for s pub but the cooks are Vietnamese and the Thai and other Asian dishes are really tasty.
I had the Pad Thai. A surprise in a pub and was impressed.

Stumbled across Burbs looking for a place to eat before a Sens game, pleasantly surprised by a great typical Pub meal, the Fries are awesome as other reviewers have said and the staff very pleasant, we’ll be back!

Ok Burbs-I’m back and wow I forgot how good you were. I’m so sorry. Took the family here after hockey and noted that I would much rather eat here than the larger chain restaurants on Terry Fox.
Keep up the good work-​you have the luxury of being flexible with your menu and having super fresh ingredients. We will be back.

I went here recently with my husband and my father-​in-​law. We went because we got a $ 20 for $ 40 Groupon and I wasn’t really expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised.
I had the Chicago Style Roast Beef Sandwich ($ 16), my husband had the Burbs Pasta ($ 15) and my father-​in-​law had the Soup of the Day ($ 6) and the Club Sandwich ($ 13).
My roast beef sandwich was very tasty. It was thinly shaved roast beef, red peppers and provolone cheese (it’s supposed to come with mayo, but I asked them to hold the mayo) on a white baguette bun. The sandwich was a good size; it was cut into 2 pieces and each piece was at least 6 inches. There was plenty of beef. My only compliant was that the beef was a little fatty. It came with au jus that was thick, opaque and gravy-​like. I know that some people prefer it thinner and clearer, but I like it like gravy. It also had slices of beef in it. Extra beef, whoo hoo! It was a bit salty, but I still ate it up anyway! I had fries with my sandwich. The fries are hand cut, with the skin on. Regular sized (not shoestring or beefsteak) and not battered. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were awesome.
I had a taste of my husband’s pasta. It was penne in an Alfredo sauce with lots of mushrooms, bacon strips and sliced chicken breast. They were not stingy with the protein. I usually find Alfredo sauces too rich, but this was just right. It was delicious. It was also a good-​sized portion.
My father-in-law’s club sandwich also looked good. He had it on white bread, but you also have the choice of brown. The club was triple-​layered, as per tradition and looked like it had a lot of real turkey (not deli meat turkey). He had it with fries. I didn’t catch what the soup of the day was, but when it came out it was a greenish pureed soup. It didn’t look that appetizing, and he only ate about ¹⁄₃ of it.
Service was excellent. We were seated right away, and they took our drink orders soon after we were seated. Food was served in a timely fashion. Also, part way through the meal I finished my water and the server noticed and brought me another glass without me even having to ask. They cleared the table quickly, smiled often, and brought the bill when asked. The bill was also correct. This is really all I ask for in terms of service at a casual restaurant, but a lot of places don’t get it right. Fortunately, The Burbs does.
It is in a strip mall with lots of parking out front. Décor is casual.
I was happy and I will be back :)

So we’ve done 2 breakfasts at the Burbs, both Sunday mornings around 9am both times. I will say don’t go much later, I think they get pretty busy, both times we sneaked in before they got slammed.
Quick service, both times I did the poached (done properly in water), toast, hashbrowns and bacon. Solid — I like my bacon alittle more crispy but the hashbrowns are great and done with some diced onions and herbs which is a nice touch.
I also did lunch here awhile back and it was great, home cut fries, and a great club… real chicken etc.

We really enjoyed using our Groupon at the Burbs. We’ll definitely go back! I had the chicken caesar wrap with sweet potato fries, and he had the Tex-​Mex burger with poutine (3.50 extra to make it a poutine). The food was yummy. Our server was friendly and prompt, and checked on us a few times, always with a smile.
My one little complaint is that it’s a bit pricey for pub food… but I feel bad saying it, because it’s DELICIOUS pub food. You can tell that whoever’s making your grub is taking pride in it. Sorta makes it worth the extra $.

Great spot for breakfast — they open at 7am on the weekends for the early birds! Been here for beers and snacks as well as breakfasts and had great experiences every time. Staff are friendly, restaurant is clean and they have a big patio for outdoor dining.

I actually like this place, in spite of this so-​so review. I’ve been there twice now, and it was ok. And incidentally there is a groupon out there right now if you are quick, for $ 20 for $ 40 worth of food. This includes the beverages. Kudos to you for that!
This place is like a bar /​restaurant more than pub, IMHO. Hard wooden chairs, but there’s an open concept about the place, and several tvs hung on the wall. They do offer a good list of beers, though. Last time I was there, the bar stools were all occupied by burly types, like a baseball team wrapping up the season. It’s that kind of place.
Now about the food: I’m only giving this place a 3 star because I’m undecided about the food. Last time I went, I had the butter chicken, which is unusual in itself (IMHO) for a bar to offer. I usually like butter chicken, and this one was good enough to make my nose run a bit! Perfect without being too spicy!
The most recent time I was there, I ordered nachos with steak. The waitress accidentally brought the wrong orders to us, which was a real eye opener to me! She brought me a beautiful veggie wrap with fries, and for my husband, one piece of fried fish with salad on the side. Completely wrong! That was the order for another table. Interesting… salad with fried fish? Fries with a wrap? That’s interesting! Never thought of that… Shortly after this, they brought the right orders: One piece of fish ‘n chips for hubby, and nachos for me. I have to say that the portions were quite generous. Not so much the steak topping, which was shaved thinly for which they charged $ 5 extra. I don’t think I will order that again — I wasn’t impressed with it, although it had different coloured chips, and was a large serving, and it might be good as a snack on a beer night, it was filling enough as a meal. It was served in a basket on a piece of paper that the food stuck to. However, the sandwhich mistakenly put in front of me looked more appetizing than this! Next time I go, I will try a wrap.
And yes, I will give this place another chance. Let’s hope that the 3^rd time really is lucky!

Being a vegan can be a huge pain in the butt sometimes. I would like to note that I’m not vegan for political reasons, I’m just irked by the chemicals in meat and dairy, so let’s go with «vegan».
At The Burbs, when I ask for a wrap filled with salad, smothered in guacamole and salsa, with salad and guacamole on the side, they don’t even blink. And they don’t charge me extra for ordering «off the menu.» And they don’t charge extra for more guacamole, their rationale being that if they’re leaving the cheese out of the wrap, the least they can do is give me the guacamole for free. That’s just awesome, and so not like Swiss Chalet, who charged me $ 4.00 to NOT put chicken on the salad. $ 19.00 for some lettuce, tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette. Nice, huh?
But yeah, props to The Burbs for making a great wrap, for never messing up the order, and for always recommending the perfect beer to go with it. Love.

Cool local spot for a beer. Waitresses are friendly, and lots of local Ottawa beers on tap. People there are typical Canadians: nice, friendly, passionate about some things, chill about most things. Note: I did not try the food, but apparently the wings are quite good.

The new veggie wrap is excellent. So are the fries and the deep fried ice cream.

Saturday mornings just wouldn’t be the same without breakfast at the Burbs, I’ve been visiting this place since I came out to see my girlfriend last April and keep coming back.
I always mean to sample their lunch menu, or even pop in for a few beers in the evening but breakfast is where it’s all at:
From the simple one or two eggs with choice of bacon, sausage or ham along with white, brown or rye toast and home fries, through omelettes, french toast, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches to the «Hangover Helper» — three eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, pancakes, toast, fruit AND POUTINE the food is consistently good and the coffee keeps flowing.
I feel I have been spoilt by the Burbs, it was only when I tried somewhere else for breakfast did I realise how good it was.
And now it feels like home, our friendly server Nathan is always cheerful no matter how busy the place is, and the rest of the servers are a delight too — smiling in confusion when my English accent goes over their heads and cleaning up without comment when I’ve knocked my entire cup of coffee over the table and the floor.
But I must try the lunch menu, one day…

I’ve been here twice, and both times it was great. I’ve tried different food both times, and both times, food was amazing for both me and the person I was with.
Great atmosphere and the staff was perfect.
If you’re looking for a great place to eat, and not have it cost an arm and a leg, this is where to go.

What I had: breakfast — 2 eggs + sausage + home fries + rye bread, with a coffee
The good: crispy home fries, rye bread option for toast, and surprisingly good coffee!
The bad: No complaints. Selection of beer might be limited from what I saw, but I didn’t ask for their full beer menu, being 11 in the morning.
The summary: A nice cozy atmosphere with average prices for a pub ($ 8 – 14 for breakfast, burgers and sandwiches ran $ 11 – 14). Home fries and coffee were surprisingly good for a pub!
The review:
Recently opened, the Pub has a cozy atmosphere (about 15 tables from what I saw, well laid out) to grab some food or a few pints.
They have Beau’s on tap and an assortment of more well known brands.
The breakfast menu is standard for a pub, offering omelets, pancakes, french toast, eggs etc.
Though the «Hangover Helper» caught me eye, $ 14 for a HUGE breakfast consisting of 3 eggs + sausage AND ham AND bacon + toast + poutine (yes, poutine for breakfast) + fruits + 2 pancakes, I decided to settle for a smaller sized plate, and went with a two eggs plate with sausage, home fries and toast ($ 8).
The home fries were the star of the plate, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, they’re pretty darn good. Nice twist is that you can get Rye bread rather than white or brown. Sausage and eggs were fairly standard, but what do you expect.
The coffee is also surprisingly good, I usually don’t have coffee at a pub, but I went three 3 cups, black. (yes, I was tired after Black Friday shopping!)
Next time I’m in the area I’ll be back try other offerings. The server said the burgers were house made, I wouldn’t mind giving that a shot!
