After a very stressful trip I was eager to get back home ! This airport made things so quick and easy I was shocked ! The staff was very helpful and friendly(as well other passengers) check in was fast and going through security? That was the fastest ever ! It’s a very small place, so you can see all gates once you are through security. They offered free carry on bag check which I was happy to take them up on. The food choices were slim. I had a few glasses of wine and a piece of pizza at a little place(the only place I could see to get a drink) the girl was really nice, but the pizza was awful. It must of sat there for a long time ! Line ups to board were fast. You walk to your plane outside. It was such a nice change from the usual stress of airline travel. I would defiantly recommend it if you are in the area !

This is a nice little airport — a pleasant surprise after a recent experience with the Sudbury Airport, which I felt was stuck in 1980. Pros: — Modern facilities and lots of colourful chairs, artwork, etc. — Loads of seating. — Efficient check-in and security processes. — Several reasonably well-stocked shops. — Easy-to-navigate parking lot. — Friendly service. Cons: — Bathrooms seem like they were left off the renovations list. — With this being such a small airport, you’ll most likely be bored out of your skull if you have to be here for any length of time — bring a book. An airport that I don’t dread? I’ll take it!

What a teeny tiny little airport! I didn’t like having to walk from plane to terminal and vice versa, this is in icy cold ass Ontario after all. There is a few places to snack and the security line is non existent!

when flying within Canada I would rather fly out of Hamilton than Toronto any day! I have literally come out of my car, checked my bags, walked through security and right onto the plane in less than 15 minutes! how often can you say that? parking is also a breeze and affordable. it’s a no hassle no nonesense kind of place. there aren’t any fancy escalators or wolf gang puck cafes but it gets the job done and gets you where you need to go. everyone from check in, to security and the timmies counter is super friendly and always has a smile on their face. my only tip is to order food from timmies before you go through security and then get your coffee on the other side.

On a recent West Jet milk run from Halifax to Vancouver, I had a stopover in Hamilton. It was supposed to be 90 minutes but lasted a bit longer because of weather at Calgary. We were STARVING — and both Tim Hortons(which is the ONLY food on site) had actually run out of food. They had a few stale timbits rolling around the bottom of the glass case, and nothing to offer but coffee and juice. That and the fact that this airport doesn’t have wifi(who the hell doesn’t provide wifi???) made this stopover a more unpleasant experience than it needed to be. The folks at the security screening felt sorry for us all — a plane load of delayed travellers in a tiny airport starving with no internet… it could have been a news story. It isn’t a bad little airport but it could use a bit more amenities and internet.

This Airport is destined to continue to fail miserably because no real upgrades have been done in decades. Putting makeup on a pig makes it no less a pig. To attract airlines, YHM needs a highway link from the 403, not a 2 lane goat path. The terminal is little more than a 40 year old garden shed with window dressings. A new terminal with a half dozen loading bridges and facilities newer than the 1960’s would really improve YHM’s chances of getting airlines to commit to them. 14 bucks a day for parking in such a mickey mouse airport is a real slap in the face too… why bother with the amount of traffic you draw??? The myopic airport authority here is really missing the point and killing an airport with so much potential. Currently Westjet operates a handful of flights daily(5 or 6 in &5 or 6 out daily) and a small charter group called Hola Sun supposedly use YHM… that’s it. Air Canada, US Air and several others have tried YHM and given up… perhaps it’s time to investigate why they all bailed? In some of the cases there were good passenger loads(AC’s YHM-YUL run was pulling 80% + load factors, I saw it personally). So that leaves me wondering about the costs and facilities. The positives; Coyote Jacks *WAS* a decent restaurant(pre security), now it’s admin offices, Tim Hortons is efficient, friendly and fresh products. Because it’s such a small airport, when things are all working as they are supposed to it’s very fast from the front door to the airplane and very close. baggage delivery is usually pretty quick when arriving because your flight is usually the only aircraft movement for 2 hours. I wish someone would put some real money into this airport and give it facilities better than most 3rd world countries… then maybe YHM could bag a big airline and actually hang on to them. ***EDIT July/13: Coyote Jacks is long gone so your ONLY choice at YHM is a tiny Tim Hortons.
