I am very happy with Tetyana as my stylist. I have been coming to her for several months now. She has a warm personality, great energy level, leads a healthy lifestyle and is great to talk to about recipes and travel. Best of all, she cuts my hair just perfectly and offers me helpful hair advice. Her attention to detail is amazing. I am totally pleased with the results every time I go to her. And so is my husband, when I walk in the door!

I graduated from the school of box dyes back in 2009, and have been going to the HeadShoppe ever since. It’s an intimate and modern setting in which stylists and clients have simultaneous, personalized experiences. With a new online booking system, it’s super easy and quick to confirm your appointment. Prices are reasonable, and they always have sales on product. Yet, at the same time, they don’t use a recipe of products in the chair to push sales on you either. It’s a nice balance, helped immensely by the offer of hot chocolate or coffee and trashy gossip magazines for the shampoo and blow-out. My thumbs are way up for Tori Wadden, an experienced, funny, warm and honest stylist with sass to boot. She has ‘straightened’ me out many times as I considered going down a ‘dead end’ path of hair experimentation. She’s also a great listener and confident — and gives an incredible scalp massage. I think I’ll go book my next appointment. You should, too!

As someone that has a unique ethnic background, it is incredibly difficult to find someone that can work with my hair. It’s incredibly curly, but it’s fine and not coarse or hard to work with. Some stylists have actually just looked at my hair and said a) I don’t know what to do with it or b) it’s a lot faster for me if I straighten it first and then cut it. Then Lindsay cut my hair. I followed her from Hair Design Centre to this Head Shoppe after she graduated and from the start she took a completely different approach… she cut it while it was curly. I know! She figured I never straighten it, why not cut it, dry it and see how it shapes and then make any adjustments if needed. My hair looks awesome and I have no doubt that if I were to straighten it for a night out the layers would work well together and it would still look amazing. It really is about the stylist and not the salon you go to. Thanks for my awesome hair!

This salon is … okay, like the other Head Shoppes(I’ve been to a few). Head Shoppes are basically a step above First Choice Haircutters but well below places like Thumpers. My stylist is … okay. I’m pretty low-maintenance so my cuts are straight-forward. I did make one suggestion and she now follows it. She is actually very quick while still styling my hair well. The salon itself is nice, but cramped. Very little room to maneuver upon entering; there is an island of product in your way when you first walk in. Staff are friendly and efficient and the place is clean and modern. Prices are affordable. I would recommend this salon to anyone looking for a decent haircut without paying through the nose.

The Head Shoppe is a series of salons situated all over HRM. My review is for both the salon and for the stylist. Let it be said that I am both a picky hair salon customer and a easy going one. Huh? Well, I know what I like in a salon and a stylist. Competence, kindness, efficiency and diversity of service. What do I mean? I am not a stylist, nor do I endlessly pour over Hair Mags to see what is new and lovely. I rely exclusively on the advice of my stylist to advise, cajole and execute the perfect style for me. If she/he is uncertain or reluctant then I move on. They need to be knowledgeable about trends, products and what looks good framing my mug!!! They need to be technically proficient, and put my hair through it’s paces. And they need to be friendly — I am not one to sit in the salon chair, put my nose in a people mag and wish the time away. I like to build a rapport with the professionals who maintain this beleaguered body!!! The same can be said for the salon — Efficient booking and rebooking. Allow the appropriate time for clients so I am not cooling my heels for an hour waiting for the previous client to finish. Have lots of products for me to wallow in. Reasonably priced. The days of $ 250 salon visits are over!!! Wow — I sound like a harda$$. I am really not though… So, now that my criteria is out of the way — how do I rate the Head Shoppe and my Stylist? Stylist — Elyse Calvert A+ — Lovely woman who is a joy to spend time in a chair with. Competent, kind, efficient and I have never had so many compliments on my hair. She is «certain» when she is cutting, colouring, styling my hair. No hesitation — just confidence in her skills. Salon — A — Stylish, clean, plenty of staff, plenty of product. I have never had to wait for more than a few moments for my appointment. They have a loyalty program too. And the pricing is reasonable.
