This is a tiny little shop with a little bit of everything. I had a coffee here a few years ago. I remember enjoying sitting in in one of the chairs in the window, watching the sites outside, talking to an interesting gentleman about the meaning of life and other weighty topics. These days, given the proximity to my home, my experiences are a little less profound. I pop in when a chocolate craving hits or I am jonesing for a samosa.(They carry a few varieties from Staff of Life) I’ve also had a sandwich and a slice of carrot cake, both of which were tasty. In the summer, they have a selection of hard icecream available by the scoop. My significant other pops in here for the odd proline or lottery ticket. They have an array of interesting bongs, pipes and other smoking accessories if that tickles your fancy, as well as some silly novelty items that I may or may not be tempted to purchase upon each visit. Summed up, for me, this place is convenient. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, but because I am nearby, I usually leave with some sort of purchase in hand.

I come here regularly for their brunch, as I work right across the street. Its a great deal for $ 5.95(2 eggs, 5 – 6 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of toast, and a coffee). The coffee isnt the best, but with the meal for $ 6 I can’t complain. Good for take out, as there isn’t much seating inside. I recommend trying it out if you’re looking for a cheap breakfast.

Decent coffee, good banana bread and a banana for $ 5. Not a bad breakfast. I didn’t try anything off their menu, and they had an eclectic assortment of things for sale in the convenience store part.

I’ve only ever had coffee here, but I think that this place does everything it needs to do. There are usually at least 4 types of coffee available, one of which is a flavoured coffee(I don’t care what coffee snobs say, I LIKE french-vanilla flavoured coffee). At $ 1.85 for a medium coffee the price is reasonable. They don’t charge you extra if you want soy milk for your coffee, and they carry the good stuff(Silk, instead of no-name soy which sometimes curdles in coffee). Service is quick and friendly. It’s a great alternative if you want to switch it up from Tim Horton’s or Starbucks.

It pains me to say that I drank the worst coffee I’ve had in Halifax at this café. I wish I could say something better, but alas, I cannot. I ordered an Americano and it was bad bad bad — undrinkable bad. Maybe their drip is better? Other aspects of this café are better. For instance, they’ve got an impressive selection of candy bars.(Someday if you are jonesing for a Charleston Chew you can think of this review and thank me.) One thing that struck me as just plain weird was the amount of marijuana paraphernalia they’ve got on hand, including glass pipes, bongs, wallets embroidered with pot leaves and grinders. Odd to find at what is ostensibly a little corner café. So my advice is to avoid the espresso, but count on these guys if you need some munchies and a new pipe.

The Spring Garden Internet Café is helpful if you absolutely must check/print an e mail or web site. I wouldn’t recommend stopping in just to shoot the breeze on facebook or anything like that because you’ll end up dropping a silly amount of money for Internet access. The location is small and not exactly private, so if you’re looking something for your eyes only I would suggest looking somewhere else. This place is what it is(I know, I hate that expression as much as you do). If you’re looking for the convenience of Internet access on the run and your phone is ancient or you need to print something off that can’t wait(and isn’t confidential) then check this spot out, but just know it’s going to cost you more than you’ll want to pay.

A useful spot to stop by if you need something printed quickly, and you happen to be downtown. The pricing is a little steep and the World of Warcraft addicts speaking into their mouth pieces can be a tad off-putting. I don’t recommend colour printing. $ 1.00-$ 2.00/page!
