The Quinpool location for Pro Skates provides the same expert product /service in slightly smaller confines. Its bright red exterior and front patio steps make for an inviting entrance, as street goers of all sorts can feel free to pop in for a browse. Bamboo boards were on sale last week outside the shop– boarders should check it. The interior is nicely put together, as top of the line gear and apparel display themselves prominently in a casual setting. Service is very relaxed, but they guys know their stuff, and will advise accordingly. Pro is the go-to spot for boarders of sorts, and a place to coordinate your style with your ride. The best product and knowledgeable staffers, Pro is a staple spot for many in the Halifax area.

This place is a surprisingly tasteful little shop located on the ever popular Quinpool strip. I ran in today on a whim when I was heading to the Natural History Museum with friends. I didn’t spend much time, but the store had good vibes and lovely floors so I was sold. The place is a long rectangular shape with fresh hardwood floors. Off to the left, there is a little nook with a flat screen TV and a small leather couch. Smack down in the middle of the store is a foosball table, surrounded by tons of fancy wooden boards and flashy skate clothing. There were fedoras aplenty, lined up fashionably along one of the walls. The dude working was on the phone and didn’t give me the nod, but I was in a peek and dash mood, so didn’t quite care. This place seems to have loads of gear at a high price point. If you’re in the business of breaking boards regularly, you probably don’t want to drop serious dime, so maybe head somewhere else. The hours here are a bit odd; perhaps indicative of a skater lifestyle(sleeping in late? — hmmm). This shop has a nice layout and is in a convenient location. If you’re a boarder babe, this may be a grand place for you to suss out.

We were on the hunt today for a skateboard. First stop was here at Pro Skate Uptown. Now, if you do not know much about all the different skateboards, then I suggest to go to the other shop downtown. Although this shop carries different boards than the shop downtown, the young guy working there, never moved from in front of the computer to help us. His answer to everything was, it all the same. Well, to me it is not, and out the door we went. If I am about to drop $ 200 or more for a board, get off your ass and assist us.

ProSkate Uptown is the third«Pro» store in Halifax. It is much smaller than the other main stores, but offers great service in an ideal location. Just a quick jaunt from the Halifax Common Skate Park, it’s a great resource for those of you who skateboard and a pretty nice shop for those of you who just like the aesthetic. Proskate Uptown has a decent amount of boards, shoes and accessories for beginners and experts alike. The staff on hand are incredibly knowledgeable of their products and seem to be concerned about matching you up with gear that best suits your needs, not just the gear with the biggest price tag. Those looking for more variety might be interested in checking out the downtown location as it is bigger and thus able to stock additional items, but that is not to take away from ProSkate Uptown. With its close proximity to the skate park, knowledgeable staff and quality gear it is definitely a welcome addition to Halifax’s West End.

Pro Skate is an east coast tradition. Probably the most recognized skate and snow brand in Atlantic Canada, Pro has built its reputation on solid brands and a knowledgeable staff. It’s strange, the gear I’m most likely to use is located in the Pro Skate downtown location, but I’m generally a little more partial to the uptown location. I think it comes down to personal preference and I happen to prefer the lay out of the Quinpool store. It’s an ideal location for local skateboarders, as the Common skate park is just down the road. All your gear is available here for a pretty decent price. It’s not just hardware for skateboards. Pro Skates Uptown also carries a variety of local and international clothing brands and accessories including watches and headphones. They have had a sick Ziggy Stardust inspired t shirt in the window for the last little while that I wish somebody would buy. It doesn’t fit me, but is sick, none the less. As I said, the workers are very well informed about their product and a little more approachable than the downtown staff(Which is strange, because I’m certain that I’ve seen the same worker in both stores). Pro Skates Uptown continues to live up to high standards set by the Pro brand. Definitely worth a visit. Now please, somebody buy that shirt in the window!
