If I had a preferred local, this would be in. I like the locations that have the walk-in cooler and this place has it. Also, I really like the friendly staff here. More so than other south end locations, they just seem the nicest. What can you say about an NSLC? It sells me booze. I like booze. It has lots of booze.

Not unlike the Superstore this NSLC. this store is very clean and has plenty of stock. You are usually greeted by a bit of a stuffy security guard who greets you with the request of seeing your id. This baby face of mine got me double id’d on this night. I was just in to grab a few gift cards for stocking stuffers and friends alike. but the cashier even went out their way to ask me how my holidays were going and seemed genuine in wondering. A good store to buy your booze!

Last night, this NSLC single-handedly launched me into a new quarter-life crisis. I am 26-years-old. 26. That is not old. But when you’re surrounded by people in this store on a Friday night and suddenly everyone else looks 17, you’re going to feel like the Crypt Keeper. And I did. It did not help that the cashier ID’d everyone until he got to me, gave me the stoic ‘old person’ nod, and rang me through. Had I not already been clutching a bottle of Bourbon, I would have had to been surgically removed from the hard liquor section. As for the NSLC itself, it is convenient for the South End weekend scene so long as you can retain a scrap of self-esteem when faced with the fact that you have gotten older. And if you can’t, at least there’s plenty of booze nearby.

Best prices in Halifax. Also, I was impressed that the security guard could offer tips on wine.

I particularly like that this NSLC has a very large cold beer section. Nothing worse than heading to a liquor store on your way out somewhere and being faced with the prospect of a) drinking warm beer in the variety you like or b) buying something just because it’s cold. Ok, so there are worse things… not many though. Pretty wide selection of wine and spirits too! This NSLC is located in the same building as the Atlantic Superstore on Barrington Street.
