My Mother’s Bloomers

Short and sweet: My mother loves flowers. So of course I called My Mother’s Bloomers (who else?) to see about a bouquet of some flowers that she likes. After checking with Neville to ensure my request was doable, I was given a very reasonable price. They were ready for pickup first thing in the morning and were lovely. My mother is pleased, and so am I. I don’t often buy flowers, but My Mother’s Bloomers is the name I know and trust for anything floral.

I knew I was in the right place as soon as I went in. I was helped out by the one and only Neville, who sat down with me for over an hour to go through all things design and floral for my upcoming wedding.
Full confession: I know NOTHING about flowers. Or weddings. I’m sure he’s never worked with someone so clueless, but he was by turns entertaining, gracious, sympathetic and teasing. Neville talked me out of some frighteningly expensive options suggested by other vendors in favour of a simpler, more delicate aesthetic (I was to be married outdoors, next to a lake) that was very reflective of me and my husband. Once we’d made a deal on the flowers, Neville and his staff were on hand with all sorts of general wedding advice, calming words for when I thought I might lose my marbles over the usual drama that comes with family members getting together, and his firm, oft-​repeated remark — «Honey, people only care about two things at a Maritime wedding — was the food good, and was there enough of it. Anything else is just details. And you’re all over both of those things, so relax already, okay sweetheart?»
I would’ve hired him in a second as a wedding planner too, but as he’s really in the flower business I let him design a few dazzling arrangements and took direction on some beautiful, affordable centerpieces. Never once did I feel rushed, dismissed or unimportant — Neville and his staff were always helpful, friendly, and had great ideas that they were willing to share no matter how many times I called or stopped in at the shop. And the arrangements were as affordable as they were pretty — much nicer than the samples I’d seen from other vendors and a fraction of the cost.
Of course I hope I never get married again, but if I did Neville is the first person I’d call. And any time I need something extra special, My Mothers Bloomers is where I’ll be getting it.
