Whether you get there coffee at the café or elsewhere you will love it. Nothing beats fresh roasted in Halifax and no one does that like(other than?) JB. Cheap lattes and great service.

Best latte in the city. One of my go-to coffee shops in the North End, and always my coffee spot when wandering the Seaport Farmers Market.

I spent a lot of time in Java this past summer; the coffee is absolutely fantastic, the staff are golden, and the friendly atmosphere is so inviting. A great place to take a book, some work, catch up with friends, or just sip the coffee whilst leaving worries at the door. Fantastic place.

Java Blend is in my top 5 favourite coffee shops across the city. They roast their own beans and upon entering the shop you can smell the delicious aroma. Living in the North End it is pretty close to my place, which makes it perfect for a Saturday morning coffee stop. They also have bike parking outside and a few tables for outdoor seating. Inside they sell baked goods, coffee, specialty coffee and tea based drinks. In addition to some great coffee making gear, espresso machines, travel mugs etc. My favourite part of Java Blend is their prices and quality of coffee. You can get a great coffee for under $ 2 and one of the best lattes in town for under $ 3. Check it out and enjoy some great coffee at a local shop that has been around for years.

Excellent selection of high quality roasts. Still looking for a pour over in Halifax but will do a nice pressed pot or cup for you. Loving the vibe here! Haven’t tried their baked goods but they look delish. Will be back.

I never thought I would be one of those people that only likes ‘certain’ coffee. Ever since I switched to drinking my coffee black: I cannot get over how obvious it is that places like Starbucks, McDonalds, Tims, Second Cup and 95% of your run of the mill cafes have terrible coffee. There is absolutely no comparison between the value you receive at Java Blend as opposed to one of these other coffee places. I must applaud the Starbucks marketing team though. It’s amazing to me how they can sell such a poor product at a PREMIUM price. Java Blend is number one for coffee.

There is nothing tastier and better for you than freshly roasted and locally ground coffee. It hasn’t been sitting on a shelf forever, there is no risk of that weird fungi that forms in coffee, known as «coffee rust» which gives me a bad stomach and itchy skin. Thats the main reason why I love Java Blend. I know the coffee beans are fresh and I will have minimal reaction to the coffee. I like the old school café feel. Anyone of a certain age can recall the«coffee house» phase of Halifax back in the early ‘90s. Remember the Green Bean and Café Mocha? When I step through the doors at JB I feel like I am going back to those days where wifi was for the rich and coffee was good and cheap all OVER the city.

Was ok. Nothing amazing, nothing horrible. Was a normal reasonable coffee. Not worth going out of way for if you have other typical options near you.

Spectacular customer service, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and GREAT coffee. Exchanged a bag of coffee beans I had with another entire one-bound bag for free.

A fixture of Halifax coffee since the 1930s. This is straight up the most consistently great coffee around. It’s my benchmark coffee I measure all others against. Coffee roasted onsite makes this place a working coffee factory and awesome coffee shop. K2 espresso is popular but the French Roast is my blend I have been drinking for the last 30 years. Walk there right now and try one of their awesome blends. You’ll won’t be disappointed. A warning, this is not nouveau coffee roasting. This is straight up classical coffee roasting. If your looking for under/over roasted coffee, you might be disappointed.

Yum! Really good, fresh coffee. A bit of a challenge finding a seat – we’ve had to leave a couple times because there were no spots left – but I suppose that’s a sign of how good it is!

Java Blend might be small in size, but it packs a large coffee punch. The coffee here is good. Really good, and like someone keeps telling me. it’s the best coffee value in town. For sourcing the most ethical coffee beans from the far reaches of the world they sell it for a great price, and for the amount of people that are lined up here every time I go in, it isn’t a secret. One of the best parts about Java Blend is the adventure to the bathroom. I know that might sound weird, but it’s in the back and it’s like a mini self-guided tour of the roasting process, bags of beans everywhere, large metal things. The underbelly of Java Blend. I always feel slightly like I’m not supposed to be back there, but I swear you are. I just want to add, that not only is the coffee good — the muffins are great. Fresh and not dry(the word moist grosses me out) but that’s what they are! Even when I have to buy the last muffin there and it’s like… pumpkin date or something. it’s delicious. So stop reading this review and go grab a coffee, grab a muffin!

Well, let’s be honest. Halifax is not playing at the same level than Montréal where I felt in love with good micro coffee roastery. But at least even if there is not much Java Blend is here to provide you some good to really good fresh roasted beans. The selection of beans is really good, the best in the city far away any other competitors. And this has to be underlined: they have very very fair and low prices! You have dark, medium dark, medium and even a bit of medium-light roasts available(usually in Kenya or ethiopians beans). At least they are not forcing you to use a roast level that you dont like as some others roasters do in the city(yeah because they think there is only one good level of roasting according to their taste…) The baristas are goods and consistents and thats what you are looking when you want an espresso shot or your daily latte. You can even see the owner roasting while you drink your coffee or enjoy the free wifi with a muffin. For my taste there is a lack of chocolate pastries to match with the good coffees but this is very personal. I like also the possibility to seat outside during the summer and enjoying the north end vibes while drinking my french press . Definitly recommended!

I think I will be awake for a week now! I am no coffee expert, but I think it is safe to say Java Blend has some of the best coffee in these here parts! They offer a smörgåsbord of coffee selection that could compete with ANY coffee house I have ever been to! The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing, plus the price is completely affordable! They also have delicious sweet treats, aka HUGE cinnamon buns and moist muffins, plus a few gluten free options(although I don’t know if it is something they have all the time) It is a wonderful place to stop in and read or do some work while you have a coffee, the tables are a little small, so I wouldn’t recommend for larger group meetings or anything but for a quiet relaxing space, it’s great! It is also just nice to have a local coffee roaster that really exemplifies the type of place we should be supporting. Hard working, amazing products and friendly service. I will definitely be returning!

A very nice café with a great atmosphere and lots of windows. The coffee was great. I haven’t purchased beans from them yet though as them are right around the corner I will be. In fact I believe they have just earned my business. Further, use the bathroom. It’s a pretty standard bathroom, but to get to it you get to walk through the back of the store and see where they roast their beans. The entire place smells of delicious coffee. :D

I have been a faithful customer for several years now. These guys opened my eyes to how good coffee really could be. Hip, über knowledgeable, quirky and friendly staff. If the North End had a heart, I think Java Blend is it. It might be a hipster hangout, but don’t be worried if you aren’t pierced and tattooed– everyone is welcome.

SO. FREAKING. GOOD. Make fun of me all you want, but one of my main concerns of moving to Halifax was finding a new coffee place, I am a regular at Bridgehead in Ottawa, and I’m not exactly fond of Starbucks anymore. Thankfully I stumbled upon this fantastic place one day on my way to work. I mostly went with the mochas, and seeing as it was the summer I got them iced. They make the BEST mocha I have had, and I’ve had A LOT. They’re not sickeningly sweet like Starbucks’, you can still taste the coffee but it has a strong, rich chocolately taste. Fantastic. Their brewed coffee is also top notch, I’ve had the Columbian and a Kenyan roast and both were delicious. The best part is that the price is way better than Starbucks, Second Cup or even Tim Hortons, and their coffee is a step above those(in my opinion). The service is also 99% good. There was one guy that would make my mochas in the summer and would ALWAYS forget the chocolate syrup because he was yacking to his friend. Besides that guy, the coffee and service is consistent and great.

This place is exactly what it intends to be. The focus is on excellent coffee. Most people at the counter are actually buying beans by the pound and walking out the door. How many cafes can say that? The ones that stick around, buy their surprisingly inexpensive cup of java and have a seat in the modest yet hipster-cool surroundings. The coffee is simply the best cup you can get in Halifax. It’s absolutely great tasting coffee. There is a good mix of ages and a spectrum of the local community with a focus on arty types. People are both friendly and reserved at once, my kind of vibe. They are sincere, interesting and surprisingly unpretentious. Even local tradesmen feel at ease strolling in to buy some for their buddies at the local work site(where ever that is). And the journey to the bathroom is part of the fun. Follow the silver arrows through the machinery and scattered beans on the concrete floor. Lol. Ohhh, priceless.

I’m not sure whether to kick myself for not going sooner, or going more often; but Java Blend is one brew that’s well worth the visit. There’s a reason you could go by just about any day of the week and see the place positively buzzing with activity. They know their stuff, they do it well, and man oh man is it ever good. The café itself was kind of small, but it had the feel of a good old-fashioned coffeehouse. As I mentioned before, it’s pretty much constantly buzzing, so if you want to sit and enjoy your coffee, you might be waiting a bit; but that in no way diminishes from the experience. The service too is some of the fastest I’ve experienced anywhere, be it a big chain or other small local joints. The staff make it both fast and friendly, which works very well to their credit. If you love coffee like I do, you’ll love Java Blend. A bit off the beaten downtown path, but well worth the visit.

I keep coming back to JB for their K2 espresso blend coffee beans. I have tried other sources, but they are the best. Plus the people are nice and it is simply a cool place. Love family businesses! I also like that they give you a glass of water with your macchiato – classy!
