Tucked away in a small space at the end of Barrington lies Hiroshima Sushi Express. There always seems to be parking right in front of it(free) which is a plus. The space is very Spartan, with every square foot being a different temperature. Space heaters dot the 12 seat resto, so judge yourself accordingly. I bought 2 groupons and was impressed the first time with the Nigiri. Like many of the Sushi joints in town, they comp you with some free maki rolls. The second time I went I tried the Nigiri Sampler, which was quite nice, but their rice to fish ratio could use some work. The miso is very well done. The menu is small, catering to the type, and price of sushi Haligonians have settled on. I ordered an Eel sushi pizza and it came in a take out container. The waitress said she didn’t want to mess it up. I don’t really think it was possible to mess this up anymore than it already was(see picture). I think this is a small family run place, the service is sketchy and lacks discreetness due to the size of the spot. You don’t get a bill, rather a total when you have to go up to pay. My young college friends swear by this place, probably because of the free maki and portion size. When you get a job and eat quality sushi elsewhere, the parallels become far more apparent. Hiroshima, keep it up for the student crowd, they need to be fed.

Stopped in for lunch today and it was OK. My choices were very good: tempura sweet potato slices, and the«rock and roll» roll, which has tuna, shrimp, and was a bit spicy. My wife was less impressed, though, with her roll. They added in some free sushi, as seems to be the norm in Halifax sushi spots, but it was fairly average. Service was efficient.

Not the best sushi place in Halifax. Restaurant barely has any seating, their sushi selection is one of the smallest I’ve ever seen and their prices are not cheap. There also happens to be a price difference when you compare their website menu to their Just Eat menu. They also have specials(deals) on their website that they don’t honour because according to them«our website is out of date». Overall, this would be my last choice for sushi in Halifax. These guys are lucky that this restaurant is the only sushi option in South End.

I’m finally getting around to writing a review of this place despite months of enjoyment! We started going here because it’s close to home, and Groupon had a great deal. The sushi here is delicious, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to get some free stuff(whether appetizers or a free roll). I’ve also been really impressed lately by an extra touch — I always ask for no cucumber in my sushi rolls as a preference and lately they’ve asked if I would like crab instead(answer: yes, always.) The only downside to this place is that their hours can sometimes be unreliable. There’s nothing more disappointing than looking forward to some of their delicious sushi and facing a closed sign! Other than that though, I would definitely recommend this place!

I came here with my sister today for the first time. One of my close friends has recommended this place, so decided to come by! The server was very welcoming and attentive. The place wasn’t too packed, but the service made it up! First of all, the miso soup was not sweet, salty, or plane. It was very ideal. We ordered two rolls and it came out fairly fast. Honestly, because it wasn’t too busy, I was pretty skeptical; however, the food was actually really delicious. On top of that, the server gave us the«Special Roll» from kitchen. I loved it. It wasn’t too pricy or anything. I feel like I paid what I got! I’m def coming back here! :D

Thursday, November 26, 2015: restaurant is closed due to a family emergency. Too bad, I was looking forward to picking up a nice takeout platter. Hope all goes well for the family!

Looking for sushi on the fly — stopped by this spot and we were super impressed! They let us in a bit early which they didn’t have to do and were very hospitable — the service was too notch. And to round it out, the food was just as good as the service. It was a delicious meal at a reasonable price. This is definitely a gem tucked down at the end of Barrington. You can find parking on Smith St. In case that is a concern.

I love sushi and this place is the best kept sushi secret in Halifax. When you walk in you feel like you are in an authentic sushi shop. Not over the top in decoration, just clean, welcoming and with little touches of decoration that give it a great feel. The space is great and so is the staff, they are friendly and make you feel very welcome, sometimes even offering samples of new sushi creations to get your opinion. Plus it is very reasonably priced. Give it a go if you like sushi.

This sushi was delicious. They also have great lunch specials. I tried the nigiri, sashimi, and some maki rolls and the fish was very fresh. Definitely a place I’d go again if it was slightly closer to my office.

This place deserves 5 stars, and I’ll tell you why. The service here is A1. So sweet and kind, quick, friendly and every time I go in they make me feel like I’m the most valuable customer alive.

Such a gem in the South End. Affordable prices, friendly and fast service, tasty and fresh food. On my list of go-to places in HFX now.

This new sushi place is amazing! The best value for sushi I have found in Halifax so far — been to four other spots this month. They always have a special and mostly have 8pc rolls(none of this 6pc bs). The maki combo is insane!!! Like 12 bucks for 24pc and these are not little baby maki rolls either, the filling is at least as much as other places, more than most. Overall, great value, and some creative rolls, customer service is fantastic. I sat down for dinner today for the maki combo and they brought out a Miso soup AND a few shrimp tempura(they like to comp appetizers for early dinner customers, but you didn’t hear that from me). Anyways, a bit away from downtown but a lovely place. Enjoy

I absolutely love this place. Cheap delicious sushi, great service, and great location! I eat here, or get takeout, at least twice a week. The BBQ Eel and Avocado roll is amazing!
