by Andy Smith, an experienced tour guide as well as

a professional actor.

Along the way, participants encounter a haunted restaurant, the spirit of wealthy Titanic passenger,

the ghost of an English general and much more.

This fun tour is the ONLY Ghost Walk in Halifax which visits a cemetery! The Ghost Walk of Historic Halifax

is offered Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings beginning at 7:30 p.m. (weather permitting: no rain

or snow) May through October.

Fee: $ 15.00 per person. Children under 13 are half price. And discounts are available for groups of more than eleven people. And for groups of ten or more people, I am happy to schedule other mutually convenient days and times.

History

Established in 1993.

Tattle Tours was created by tour operator and professional actor Andy Smith. Andy first began offering step-​on tour guide services to popular Nova Scotia destinations as well as walking tours of Halifax’s historic downtown area. In 1995, he introduced what is now the very popular ghost walk of historic Halifax. Over the years, Andy also began to conduct van tours of Peggy’s Cove, the South Shore, the city of Halifax as well as Nova Scotia’s beautiful Annapolis Valley.

Andy is the owner/​operator of Tattle Tours, a tour company which offers lively walking tours, van tours and step-​on guide services to many popular Nova Scotia destinations. He is also a professional actor (an ACTRA member) who has appeared in numerous film and TV projects. Because of this, his tours are entertaining as well as informative and chockful of fascinating stories, odd facts and lots of local gossip.

Andy is a good actor and speaks with a fun cadence. The history intertwining the haunted sites was good but there could have been more. The haunted parts were not creepy enough.

I highly recommend the Halifax Historic Ghost walk! Whether a tourist or someone who has lived in Halifax their whole life the HHGW is a great way to spend an evening; even better if that evening is a chilly, slightly drizzling October one! The tour meets in front of the Town Clock and takes about two hours traveling from the top of Citadel Hill all the way down to the waterfront. I highly recommend comfortable walking shoes– you’ll need ‘em– and an umbrella. The tour guide was excellent packing in a lot of Halifax history, mystery, supernatural and a little bit of the dramatic in a perfectly baked folklore pie. The time flew by. The tour is more creepy, gothic horror than blood and gore so it is fine for older kids. After the tour ended and the group quickly dispursed, I was alone on the waterfront with the waves softly lapping the dock and the Acadian creaking in its berth. Did I see a glimpse of a figure in white in the wheelhouse or was that just my imagination… again great tour!

This tour was great! Our tour guide, Dusty, was so energetic and a fantastic story teller. He gave the folklore life every time he told a new story. I really like the walking tour idea. Wear comfortable shoes, but it’s for anyone, so don’t worry… it’s not that much walking. There are spots to sit at places where he tells longer tales. We started at the Clock tower and by the end of it we were at the water’s edge, which was a great place to tell tall tales about lives lost at sea. Every stop we made had a historical connection with the story he was telling. It was creepy, but not scary. A great activity for an October evening!

Who doesn’t love ghost stories? Having lived in Halifax for a good portion of my life you always hear about the ghosts that haunt this seaside city. From pirate hangings to the Halifax explosion, all of the ingredients for a good haunting or two are located in the city. The Ghost Walk of Historic Halifax takes you down the path and shows the places and describes the events that have influenced these stories.
The stories themselves are great and told in a very animated and entertaining way. Told in the tradition of folklore, any Helen Creighton fans may recognize a story or two. In addition to stories of hauntings and ghosts you also learn a great deal of history associated with the city. I am an avid history lover and I learned a thing or two that I didn’t know about Halifax. As you walk along the waterfront, fog rolling in you will experience a chill or two. Is it the cold air or the spirits paying a tribute as you finish up the tour? Great experience that I would recommend to local or tourist alike.

My fiancé and I joined a group of Unilocalers on this tour and to my suprise it was great this isn’t a tour you wanna take if your looking for a spooking/​scary walk it’s more of the historic perspective of the city the tour was 2 hrs long and brings you to citidal hill and through the streets of downtown then ending your night at the water on the board walk I would highly recommend this to anyone

My husband and I recently took this tour with Andy of Tattle Tours and loved it! It was spooky, interesting and fun. Andy is an enthusiastic story teller and really knows the local hauntingly well. I’ve been on many ghost tours and this was the one I enjoyed the most. It walk heavy but I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a spooky night!

Took three grandsons on this ghost walk. We all truly enjoyed it. That is saying something because sometimes they can be a tough crowd. Andy made it engaging, interesting and just plain fun. It is well worth the money. A great night out in a great city.

Here’s a review for you: If you are interested in not only the paranormal but local history, you will love this tour. Our guide Glenn, was extremely friendly, funny and an excellent storyteller. I enjoyed learning about all the history Halifax has and some of the spooky stories to go with it. It was a chilly night last night but I still had a wonderful time; filled with laughs, tales of ghosts, pirates and the unexplained and left with a good amount of interesting information to look at more spooky mysteries in Halifax.

This is such a fun tour at an incredible price. Andy is a pro — smooth as silk, engaging and funny. Full of detailed facts and little known tidbits of Halifax history as well as the present, this tour is a relaxed way to explore the downtown and have a great bit of fun. For those who are looking for evidence of the ghostly, Andy makes a convincing case with personal stories, and for skeptics he weaves in memorable history and a lot of humour. Can still see the 16 year old who was on my tour in fits of giggles at some of his antics. As a local, I loved the Halifax trivia I didn’t already know and the pleasure of strolling the city at dusk. For tourists and ghosty-​folk — — this will be enjoyed just as much and more. This is a must-​do at least once for anyone looking for the full Halifax experience.

For those of you looking for interesting and unusual facts, tidbits, gossips, weird events as well as historical facts that have happened in Halifax, this is the tour for you. The tour is actually well designed and starts at the top of the hill and meanders its way to the bottom (no huffing and puffing). You never have to walk far before you stop for another interesting fact, historical event, or interesting talk of ghosts. This is a tour for all ages — so no child is too young to participate in this tour. The intent of the tour was not to scare people, it was more to present the more interesting side of Halifax.
The tour was pretty informal, casual and personable — and price was very reasonable! I was able to ask Andy additional questions in between. Andy was always careful to ask if it was too uncomfortable for anyone (we actually get to go inside a cemetery and stand next to some of the gravestones). And didn’t linger too long at any one site… I thought this might be useful in case one of the ghosts wanted to tag along home with someone (my wild imagination). And while nothing spooky actually happened (with the exception of a shiver or two), you never know… there have been some of his tours where he and the group have witness unexplainable things…

If you’re looking to be scared, this is not the ghost walk for you. Instead, this walk looks at Halifax ghost stories from a historical perspective.
I haven’t tried the other ghost walk (
) and perhaps that is a bit scarier but this is a fascinating journey through the city that I thought I knew.
The guide, Andy Smith, takes you on a gentle amble through Halifax, highlighting points of history I never even knew! Not a big fan of walking Halifax’s many hills? It’s pretty much all downhill walking. Intentionally. The route is designed so that you’re basically working your way from the Citadel (
) to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (
).
It makes for a surprisingly good date activity and would probably be fun in a group.
