As Kirk F. put it, this lovely little trail is definitely under-appreciated and under-used; however, this is certainly not a bad thing. Aside from a few brilliant, sunny summer days, most of my treks on this trail have been deliciously solitary in nature. Pros: — Beautiful scenery, even during the dead of winter — views of Halifax and the harbour, a variety of ever-changing graffiti, plenty of plant and animal life, etc. — A mostly pleasant surface for walking/running/biking. The paved trail does stop briefly once you hit Old Ferry Road, but resumes at Tupper Street. — The trail seems to be fairly well-maintained throughout the year and is plowed and salted during the winter months. — Although largely level, there are some hills and valleys that make this trail more than just a relaxing stroll(yay!). — The 5k total length is great for short workouts. Cons: — The trail break between Old Ferry and Tupper means that you’ll have to walk through the gravel parking lots of some pretty sketchy apartment complexes, which also means walking around dumpsters and generally unattractive scenery for a few minutes. — Some sections of the trail are prone to flooding after rain, which means that they tend to be somewhat icy in the winter. The worst of it passes by the NSCC campus. — At a mere 2.5k each way, the trail is too short for me to consider it a «real» workout. Like-minded exercise zealots may wish to incorporate the Harbourwalk into a longer trek/bike. Overall, I’m glad to have access to such a great little trail. I hope the city continues to develop it over the next few years.

I’m a faux profesional photographer, and this little gem of a walk had plenty of random and amazing things to take photos of. The beat up railroad tacks, the boats in the harbor, the families playing with kids… and greenery for days… I’m a city boy, and this was a nice little escape from the city(that’s located in a city)…

Been biking this route for a couple years now with our local bike group and I really love it. It’s not an overly strenuous ride but it is scenic and really nice to be free of automobile traffic. Whenever I’m looking to go for a bike ride by myself, it’s usually my ‘go-to’ place even though I don’t live in Dartmouth.

The Dartmouth Harbourwalk Trail is under-appreciated, by far! It stretches between the two Dartmouth ferry terminals and makes for a great hike or bike ride. If you’re looking to stroll by little shops, cafes and tourist traps, this is not the path for you! It’s just a relaxing, slightly winding trail snaking alongside the Harbour and around homes. Lots of nature around. And if you need a reward, either end has shops and services nearby. For those who live on the Halifax side of the harbour, think of taking the Woodside ferry over and walking down to Alderney, enjoy some of downtown Dartmouth and then take the ferry back over to Halifax.
