Centennial Pool is great for their downtown location and inexpensive pricing. I go once a week with some friends for a lane swim so I really appreciate getting a good workout in for $ 4 without dealing with the trouble of paying a monthly membership fee. Having said that, the place could definitely use and upgrade and/or scrubbing more often. I’m sure it’s because of the lower prices that they aren’t able to maintain it as well as some other pools in the city but I wouldn’t mind seeing some cleaner locker-rooms. Having said that, the dirt wouldn’t stop us from going. The staff is great and the price/location are right.

Centennial Pool is smack dab in the middle of Halifax and it is one of only two 50 meter pools in the entire Maritime provinces. Other than being exceedingly large, the pool offers six 50 meter lanes, a 5 meter diving tank, various diving boards, and a bunch of spring boards. They even have a 10 meter diving platform, although not open to the public. If you’re a serious swimming fanatic you’ll love this pool. The prices are extremely affordable, and definitely the cheapest of any indoor swimming pool in Halifax. Centennials location is prime, and easy for any to get to, car or not. Like other pools they have set swim times for lane lovers, families, and adults. In terms of price Centennial is a great outing for the family, although the pool lacks pool bling like water slides and swinging ropes. If it’s one of those super hot summer days in the city the pool is a great place to cool off. The keep the water a little colder than most pools as it’s home to quite a few swim teams.

Driven by a bucket-list triathlon attempt, I have returned to swimming after a 25-year hiatus. I joined a local triathlon club that trains 2x/week at the Centennial Pool. The pool has a community feel. Affordable prices with an accommodating schedule mean the pool is accessible for people of all ages to enjoy a swim. And while it’s usually divided into two 25M pools, it’s occasionally opened up to 50M for long course swimming. While you’re swimming, just try to ignore the dirt. I swim at 8 pm and by this time the change and shower rooms are filthy. There doesn’t seem to be ongoing cleaning during the day. Make sure you bring flip flops or you’ll find yourself standing in a sea of long hair. I find the pool equally suspect. The bulkhead has a thick layer of scum on it and, on more than one occasion, I have seen dirty band aids wafting along the pool floor. Another disconcerting element is the water temperature. To me, a warm pool means a bacteria laden pool. I understand that because of all the activities held in the pool, diving, lane swimming, synchro, aquasize classes, the water needs to be a bit warmer to keep everyone happy, but I can’t help thinking the warmer the water, the more bacteria floating around. I’m sure the pool is well treated with chemicals. All that being said, there are some things I really like about the Centennial Pool: lots of parking, reasonable prices(about half the price of other pools in the city) and the option of diving if you feel up to it. If you’re looking for a place to swim and aren’t bothered by dirt, give this pool a try.

If you like the high dive, then this pool is for you. When I visited the Centennial pool, I chose to hurl myself off of the 10-meter board and boy, was it a good time. Well, half of my bathing suit did come off, so pay heed and make sure to sport a full piece if you plan on taking the plunge. There is also a one-meter board as well as a three-meter. The Centennial is the only pool in the city with a ten-meter jump, so it’s worth the trip just for this experience. The facilities were clean and the staff were friendly. Head on in for a swim or for the thrill of falling 10 meters into the water.
