We went to check out Fisherman’s Cove for the first time today. My son was hungry so we stopped in for a quick bite. He had the fish tips and chips which were delicious and was served quickly(perfect for an impatient toddler). The staff was really friendly and my son loved finding the ducks hidden throughout the restaurant. We were there on Good Friday and were so pleased with the suggestion of mini egg cheesecake — it was unique and delicious. If the kids meal is an indication of the rest of their menu, we will definitely come back.

Great meal with the in-laws. Fish and chips were great, big portions, properly cooked. Calamari was nicely battered and gently fried. One of us deviated from the seafood and had the English Breakfast with local marmalade, and gave it two thumbs up! Thanks!

I’d give this place a miss. It has a beautiful location and great patio(so five stars for that) but the food and service were both mediocre. We stopped here on the way home from the beach, before sunset, hoping to get some great seafood to finish off an awesome sunny day. All the seafood, other than salmon and mussels and lobster, was fried. This makes me think that most of the seafood must be frozen rather than fresh, but who knows. I ordered the fish cakes — there were chunks of fish in them but they were thick and had too much potato in them in terms of ratio to seafood. The others had fish and chips(heavily battered and deep fried) and a burger(average at best). If you want a sunny patio drink(with limited choices) then definitely go here. But maybe opt for a different location for food…

It’s OK but nothing special. The outdoor seating is spacious and it looks like the kids have a good time running around but the portions are small relative to the price and the quality is a bit below average. The service was not quick considering that it was not busy. The local area looks like a tourist trap except that there were no tourists. There is plenty of parking nearby and several little shops to wander around but it is quite a ways off the beaten path.

I have eaten there many times over the years. When my mother was alive we would eat there every Mother’s day and her birthday(her favourite place). I always enjoyed the food very much(especially the lobster, mussels and chowder) …never an issue and the service was always first class. Recently after going back I have to say that it’s even better since the new owners took over just a couple of years ago now… both food(the fish and chips are excellent) and the service have gone up a notch… The outdoor patio is special. you are sitting right there with the harbour in the background… and they even have entertainment once in a while. I hear this year the passage players and Boondocks will combine to bring a Pirate Privateer ambience to the experience… can’t wait to check that out. Will I go back again? You betcha!

Enjoyed dinner with my wife and daughter. The little one never likes her food and gobbled every bite of hers! We both had the fish and chips and were wowed. A great portion of fish, hour and served quick. The accompanying fries were perfect. I don’t know about the problems others have said, or waitress was friendly and fix was served pretty quickly.

We left the patio before placing our order. I think 10 min wait was enough especially since only 3 tables had customers. Went to Coffee Tea and Sea instead and had a wonderful experience

My family have been coming here for the last few months and have had great service. We get great food everytime and the prices are very affordable. Our neighbours join us once in a while as well and they too enjoy the atmosphere and food. It is a great place for the entire family with a good selection for the kids. I usually get the pan fried haddock with rice which I find is seasoned beautifully! The desserts are wonderful as well although my wife does wish they could bring back the coconut cream pie lol. It is also in a great spot. You can have dinner then stroll along the boardwalk and enjoy the great views. If you havent tried them yet you should.

Terrible! My hubby, 2 friends and myself stopped by for a bite to eat after finding ourselves starving and in the area. Having never been, we asked about gluten free options at the door before being seated and were told, absolutely no problem. Seated, menus given and allowed to be perused and the waitress comes up to take drink orders. They arrive in a good amount of time and we’re on to ordering mains. I had GF club w/mash($ 13.50) and hub got GF Philly steak w/fries($ 13.50) sandwiches plus garlic bread w/cheese app($ 11.50!) 1 beer and an iced tea. Friends had regular Philly and fries(12) and fish and chips($ 11?) and 2 beer. I had to ask for 2 removals(allergies) from my order and the hubby’s and got a very huffy response to this. The waitress stormed off with her ‘iPad ordering system’ TWICE. Came back and asked if there was anything else and when the hubs said he wanted cheese on his garlic bread she again got huffy and nasty, replied ‘great! Now I’ll have to delete this whole thing and start over.’ Getting upset at this point, we just again reiterated the order and hoped she’d go away so we could chat and have a good time. Food takes FOREVER(inexcusable considering there were only 6 tables filled in this LARGE restaurant on a Saturday night) and when it finally arrived we were so disappointed. Tiny portion for the gluten free, and they have the nerve to UPCHARGE for this! Directly compared with the gluten filled Philly, the GF was HALF the size! And WAY more expensive! Flavor was pretty flat on the club, tiny bit better on the philly. Then as we’re finishing up our mains we get our app. 2TINY pieces of GF bread(a GF hamburger bun with garlic spread and cheese) and we were done. Waitress came back, asked how all was and then when hubby told her we were not happy re: portions and up charges she replied with shrugging off and saying ‘well those are the GF portions, sorry you’re not happy with that’ and when addressed about paying $ 11.50 for a GF hamburger bun with cheese and garlic reply was ‘well if you were unhappy with the size, I could have taken it back to the kitchen’ … REALLY??? So onto manager town. We speak with the owners daughter(after paying for the food, as we were looking for resolution not discounts) and none to be had there either. She was nice enough, seemed shocked that we only got 2 pieces of garlic toast and said she’d address the kitchen but never addressed the portion size or upcharge. Empty apology and we were out the door. Oh and never mind when I looked over my shoulder to see the waitress standing with the other staff at the wait station and gossiping about us complaining. Oy vey. Our friends before tip bill =$ 40 ish Ours bill before tip = almost $ 56! For less food, despite that we ordered extra food!!! Never again boondocks! The chips we had when we got home were more filling than your meal! We won’t be back and hope someone else finds this review helpful :)

Total tourist trap– Never again. Worst food I’ve had in the city so far. I’m pretty sure the rice they serve is minute made, the veggies consisted of damp frozen carrot and slivers of zucchini, which was so bland I didn’t even eat it. The salmon tasted okay but was pretty chewy and over cooked. The server just seemed like she didn’t want to be there. She asked us how the food was, and as my wife expressed her issues with the meal, the server just walked away. The food is also very over priced for such poor quality. The salmon meal was about 20 $ which couldn’t have costed more then 5 $ to produce. The clams and chips were 17 $ which you could get right across the street for 12 $. Total waste if money couldn’t wait to get the bill and leave.

We stopped in here for dinner while visiting family around the corner. The server was very attentive and kept our drinks filled all evening. We had two appetizers. The bruschetta was over-priced as you only got two medium sized slices of bread with bruschetta on top. The bacon-wrapped scallops were cooked well. The bacon was crispy and we cut through the scallops like butter. They had a nice flavour and were reasonably priced. The fish and chip portions are huge. One piece plus fries was a perfect size for each of the other two members in our group. The batter was light and crispy and the fish was fresh and delicious. I had the 2.5 pound lobster dinner with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. The lobster was cooked well and delicious like the other plates. It was cooked well, not tough or overlooked. There was so much delicious lobster meat that I barely touched the sides as I was so full. The prices for the main courses were very good(especially compared to Halifax restaurants). I would definitely recommend this spot for great food and a great sea-side patio. Can’t wait to come back on our next vacation!

I do not usually write reviews of restaurants, because I know it is a hard business and somedays can be off days. That being said, I was served the worst food in Canada yesterday and contracted food poisoning from same over the next 14 hours. This from eating 2 items: the Surf Burger and the chowder. First the chowder. Bland and full of flour and cornstarch. No seasoning that I could discern. Strange consistency that coated the mouth and teeth, obviously from the cornstarch. The truly odd part of the dish was that it made the roof of my mouth numb. Truly a horrifyingly bad effort. For amazing chowder, I would encourage everyone– including the chef at Boondocks– to make the trip to Porter’s Lake Pub. On a good day, they are equal to any great chowder on the eastern seaboard. It was served with a dry oatmeal breadstick that looked as it had been salvaged from an impoverished retirement cafeteria’s dumpster. Now, the burger. It is supposed to be local grass-fed beef with lobster chucks in sauce over top. We ordered the lobster and sauce on the side. The burger arrived warmish, not hot, not seared, not grilled. Warmish and grey, with flecks of white. The mix was filler heavy with caraway seeds. Two bites and I knew it was off. My partner refused to eat hers after one bite. The fries were served cold(!), limp and tasted as if they had been sitting in canola. Seriously, people, enough with canola. It is not an oil fit for restaurant use. The lobster sauce was not worth the death of a lobster, and not fit to be served in Canada’s great fishing and lobster coast. Plus, it is $ 17! So, we took the food to go for seabirds that visit our oceanfront home, and I took a activated charcoal pill to settle the growing pain in my stomach and potentially address the tingling on the roof of my mouth. Sparing the details of the next 14 hours, suffice it to say that I am much weaker and dehydrated after taking the chance on the«new» Boondock chef and kitchen. This restaurant location, and the people of Halifax deserve better, or at least deserve someone who tries in the slightest not to spread discomfort and disease. Please avoid at all costs.

New owners, new chef, new attitude! We recently visited Boondocks, and what a pleasant surprise! The food was amazing! It is now a community restaurant that sources food locally. We had the full English breakfast and fish cakes. It was all above average, as was the service. We loved the sausages and bacon so much, we were told we could purchase them at Getaway Farms at the Halifax Seaport Market. It is now a weekly trip to the market to purchase locally sourced food. Than you Boondocks for walking to a different beat! I love the food, community feel and scenery. I can’t wait to return!

This place was closed in December and now two new owners have taken this beauty over! We arrived @ 7 pm to congratulate them on owning there second food service(Ma bells) is there other business, it’s packed! Many tables with 5 plus people! Not to mention besides the fact that they were crazy busy, our food was mouth watering! And the Caesar was delicious! Some people had a longer wait then others but all in all were satisfied ! Anyone who had eaten here before, must come back no try it, the second time around is always better!

What the hell happened to this place? Is it a German restaurant or a Nova Scotia restaurant?! The menu is pathetic, the food is disgusting and the customer service is lousy. The servers are definitely not happy. I remember when this was the place to go — busy, great service, great food. None of this reflects the present restaurant. Long weekend and no one here!!! No Keith’s draft on a long weekend! If you are down in that area go to Wharf Wraps — we are just about to leave to go over there instead. PS. The bottled beer is warm. PSS. The hot water is disconnected in the washrooms, the lights on the patio are corroded with rust, the place is falling apart. I predict new owners in the near future. The server said, as she was seating a couple beside us: «oh my god it stinks out here on this patio like a skunk». She actually said that. wow — enjoy your dinner — lol! At that point we got up and left. Horrible horrible. Horrible. I would give it no stars but I don’t think that is possible.

In the summer, my fiancé and I went to Boondock’s one Sunday for supper. It was a beautiful, warm summer day so we sat out on the patio. Well, that was a mistake, the patio was crawling with ants. It was like one of those scenes from cartoons, where you see the ants have a party on a picnic blanket. The service was mediocre. I found the restaurant décor very cliché, and made the place feel like a tourist trap. We both had the seafood platter, the food was nothing to rave about. The platters came with an excessive amount of fries, and the seafood portion was not as healthy. The battering used on the seafood was ok, but it really did not have much flavour. The price we paid for what we ordered, was over priced. It is not a restaurant I would recommend to locals our tourists because of poor food, mediocre service and higher prices than necessary. If you want a good good seafood restaurant, go to John’s Lunch, in Dartmouth on pleasant street.

I remember eating over at Boondocks ordering the fish and chips. This place has a great outdoor patio section and is situated right by the boardwalk over there. Although the staff is friendly, I was not wowed by the food. It does have some great attributes, it is situated where there are some great little shops around and a beautiful area along Eastern Passage. It has a nice indoor eating area as well and of course plenty of cold ones to quench the thirst.
