Adept Tattoos & Body Piercing Studio

My first tattoo [Companion Cube art for Portal] with Lisa (back when she was on quinpol) was a single hour sitting where she quickly drafted my design and made alterations. Lisa is the best, she is super friendly, personable and professional. Her artwork is great and each and every experience with her has been fantastic. After my piece was done Lisa directed me to look it over and because we had time left made a few changes and alterations. I had once snow cancellation but they were able to get me in a few weeks later at a similar time and called with 24 hour notice to let me know and rebooked right on the phone.
I also got to see Lisa again for their annual animal charity tattoo session. Again great experience, the place was packed and things were a bit rushed but even with lines out the door everyone was friendly and helpful. I was able to ask questions and choose colour design and process a variety of payments. [Hand Shadow Raven]
Finally and sadly at the Bedford location (Only sad because that damn 80 bus!!) is where Lisa resides now. So I made the hour bus ride out to bedford for the first part of my leg sleeve [Mrs. Marvel Comic panel]. This one was pretty much a straight copy of a comic panel with a large chunk of black. The consult was quick and I brought her the reference issue, we made a few changes for asethic and ink allowance (Larger speech bubble, more vibrant greens in the bottom panel etc.) I paid my deposit and booked a 3 hour session to do the whole thing start to finish. On the date it wound up being closer to 4 hours, but the whole process was great. Other artist came over to laugh (good naturedly) at the giant block amount of black. Lisa was a total doll throughout the process and tolerated while I played an obnoxious psvita game on and off. We had a blast, the ink was great and we snapped a few photos. Everyone was surprised with how well the black coverage was and how well it stayed. I called one or twice to ask about aftercare clarifications as this was my largest piece and the staff was more than happy to help. Lisa also responded to my e-​mails/​messages promptly for all my questions.
Lisa also booked me in for a free touch up a month later in case anything faded or was missed. She touched up both my sleeve and my other two previous tattoos for free and they are all still looking great!
I had another consult shortly after for the 2^nd leg sleeve panel (Thor/​Jane). Again Lisa was super friendly and excited to talk with me about the comic and the different panels I had for reference. This one is the first one that I didn’t have an exact idea on what I wanted, so we looked thru the different images I brought and discussed what we liked about each. We wound up settling on a mixture of the panel where she gets the Power of Thor & combining another panel of badassery with brilliant colours with the panel where she first holds Mjölnir. We also opted to book a 4 – 5 hour session for this one to allow for breaks and since the last one ran long.
Since then I have had to cancel a few appointments for my leg piece due to finacial reasons. But both the Artists and Front Desk folks were very understanding and able to move my appointment for me and I have kept my deposit. I was also contacted in between (as I pushed by appointment back by 4 months) when Lisa had a large enough cancellation slot on days they new I was available. Which I super appreciated!
I am super excited to head out to bedford tomorrow to finally get my next tattoo with Lisa. I am hoping to be able to continue going back for her for both this Marvel Sleeve, my DC sleeve and all my future tattoos.
Equipment is all clean and sterile, their ink is Vegan, and I have always had pleasant experiences with Jillian and other front of house folks. The shop is nicely decorated and neatly kept. The bathroom is tiny tho: P.

My lifestyle doesn’t allow me to plan too far in advance so getting into tattoo shops can be quite difficult for me. However, the shop was very accommodating and understood my predicament. I got booked with Cassie and let me just tell you it was the best tattooing experience of my life. I have 16 tattoos prior to this new one so I’m not new to the shop scene. I’m used to being told I’ll get a call back and never hearing from the shop again. Cassie was outstanding and has an excellent eye for detail. Not only did she tattoo my shoulder but she actually talked to me the entire time and was down to earth. We talked about everything under the sun and I actually felt very comfortable there. Cassie wasn’t the only nice staff member though, they were all chill and laid back. They all spoke as if they were at home with their friends. I loved the environment, staff, and overall quality of the work. Cannot comment on the piercings but I would bet that it is exceptional as well. I will continue to shop here as the prices are excellent, and look forward to working with Cassie again.

Took my daughter here to get her ears pierced. They were fabulous and the safety measures they took to keep it all clean and sterile was comforting to see. Made me feel much better than going to a place at the mall.

I made an appointment 4 months in advance after a consultation with my chose artist. On my way to my appointment after waiting 4 MONTHS they called me 45 minutes prior to the appointment while I was on my way and canceled due to «artist illness».
I attempted to reschedule and they were not accommodating at all. They offered for another artist whom I had not met to tattoo me. The artist I originally booked with was who I wanted to do my tattoo which is why I waited so long. I was extremely disappointment with their customer service. I cannot critique their work as I wasn’t able to have my tattoo done. Very unprofessional.

I got my absolute favourite piercing done here, they did my VCH and I LOVE it.
He was professional, gentle (well as gentle as you can be with a giant needle in your hand) and walked me through the aftercare very well.
It was nice to see such a clean space, privacy (curtains) and respectful beside manner given the nature of the piercing.
100% would go again.

I got my first tattoo done at Adept by Angie. Not only is she an amazing artist, she can tattoo like mad. I am extremely happy with the results, how I was treated and I can’t wait for Angie to hook me up again!

I would not even give this place any stars if possible. I have had three separate experiences with Adept, each of which has proved to me that these people are completely incompetent at what they do.
Experience 1: I need a retainer for my tongue piercing. Piercer has trouble taking my current piercing out, but manages it and puts the retainer in. Three steps out the front door, the ball falls off and I almost swallow it. Piercer clearly couldn’t even put a ball on a barbell.
Experience 2: Facial piercing had migrated, I had previously had it taken out twice and repierced twice. Well, rejecting again so had to get it taken out. Different piercer this time, lays me down, and all of a sudden I feel a Lot of pain. More than the last two times. I ask him what he is doing. He says that basically the only way to take it out of my face is to pull, and that that is not a problem ‘because there are no nerve endings there.’ This is NOT true. Having had the piercing taken out before– you do not just ‘pull it out’ and I’ve never heard anything about no nerve endings. Piercer basically uses brute force to rip the piercing out of my face, it bleeds for the next few hours, and now I’m left with a nasty scar.
And as if I wasn’t already dumb enough, having gone to this place TWICE with horrible experiences, I go Yet Again.
Experience 3: My retainer breaks, and I need a new tongue barbell pronto before the hole shrinks or fills in. Reluctantly, the only place I can think of is Adept. I go in, skeptically, but end up explaining the situation and buying the barbell that the piercer recommends. Turns out he sold me a barbell that they use for freshly pierced tongues. Like the tongues that swell up to twice their size, so you need a huge barbell. The ball of the barbell he sold me starts irritating and digging into the back of gums. I just went, having to spend even more money, for a a correctly sized barbell. The only place I could think of was the mall– and the girl at the kiosk knew more than the supposed ‘piercer’ at Adept.
I don’t know about tattooing, but my experiences have only been with piercing, but I wouldn’t let any of the incompetent people even remotely affiliated with that place come near me with a 10 foot pole. I have a lot of experience with piercing places… well, let me just say this: STAY AWAY.

I’ve always always gotten my piercings and tattoos at Adept. Each time I went, it was with a different artist. But needless to say, they always figured exactly what I wanted.
When I went this time, I met with Lisa and let me say, SHE WAS AWESOME. I showed her the design and she fit me in pretty much the next day.
I love that the place is super clean and hygenic. More reasons for me to go back again.
Plus, I have an awesome tattoo!

Had my first tattoo done today by Angie. She was very professional, but also friendly. The shop is incredibly clean and well cared for — the music and atmosphere was comfortable. I am VERY pleased with the work. Angie is an accomplished artist and I’m very proud and pleased to have such a lovely piece. Couldn’t be happier!

My friend got her tat here when she helped me move here. At first, they seemed like they could give a rats ass about us but as soon as my friend forked over her money they were cool as shit. She told buddy what she wanted, he went home, made it up and everything was kosher from there on out. He was very fun to chat with while he worked.

Amber herself was the one who scheduled my appointment and she was quite rude and brusque about it all. When I got there the day of my appointment, the guy who was going to be doing my tattoo was «I’m way too cool for you» and told me he didn’t like my tattoo design (not because it was complicated or ill-​thought out or anything, he just personally didn’t like it). Well too bad buddy, this is going on MY body, not yours. He did a good job but it felt quite condescending and like they couldn’t be bothered with those of us not covered from head to toe in ink (this wasn’t my first tattoo either but most of mine are easily hidden — he of all people should know not to judge a book by its cover!). I won’t be going back.

I’m happy to report I was contacted by someone from Adept and this review will be used as a teachable moment for the bad points I made. So now I can upgrade to 5 stars :)

shop, Amber. I scheduled my appointment which required me to leave work early. The manager called me 30 minutes before my appointment to tell me that she had to cancel. So i rescheduled again for two weeks later. Again I got a call 30 minutes before my appointment to hear she cancelled on me again. So in the end i lost wages and never got my tattoo done. Very unprofessional and disappointing for my first experience with the person voted best tattoo artist in Halifax by The Coast.

I’ve been wanting to get a fairly large piece (¾ sleeve) for quite some time now and finally decided to take a deep breath and jump in. I called to book a consultation with Amber and had to wait nearly a month to get in– this I took as a good sign– if she’s busy her work must be as good as it looks in her portfolio.
I had a few ideas of what I wanted, but was hoping the consultation would be an opportunity to bounce some ideas around and get some input/​suggestions.
I showed up a few minutes early for my appointment and was greeted by some super friendly front desk ladies and told to take a seat and advised me that Amber was not in yet. Half an hour later (and 25min after my schedules appointment time) she rolled in the front doors.
She called me up to the counter (the shop was really busy by this point) and abruptly started asking me questions as though she was taking an order for a pizza rather than «consulting» with me on a major piece of artwork.
She informed me that she wasn’t into bouncing ideas around as «we could go back and forth forever and not come up with anything».
Our exchange ended with her sending me away without much further adieu and certainly no ideas/​suggestions.
I understand that she runs a busy shop and she was clearly running late but the whole exchange gave me the impression that she could really care less about having a creative exchange of ideas. I don’t expect to hug and exchange life stories,
Unfortunately, I definitely won’t be going back and have a pretty shitty first experience with the tattoo biz. Too bad, because she is a really talented artist and appears to run a clean shop…

Make sure you book your appointment well in advance if you want Amber to do your Tattoo. After three years of talking myself in and out of the decision to get another tattoo, I booked my apt with amber. The day I went I was very nervous but I want this tattoo as it represented my Girlfriend that passed away with cancer.
Amber came highly recommended as many people that I knew when to her to get their ink done. I walked in and starting to look around at all the pictures and drawings that were done of the many clients. I previously went in and showed Amber what I was thinking about and he did up some drawings. Today was the day that it was going to happen.
Not sure if it was the location of the tattoo by OMG I was like stop! She laughed and told me to take a deep breath. All I could think about is my GF going through what she did and I told myself I can do this. 2.5 hours later I walked out of there with one major tattoo that represent by GF.
Amber was great at what I called her bed side manor as well as she is amazing with her gear. I will tell you that you have to book well in advance as the more shows she does the longer your waiting period will be.
