101.3 The Bounce

Until Halifax puts down a 1990’s rap station the bounce will have to do. I always see these radio reviews on Unilocal and have to wonder why not just put it in your rotation in your car like I do. You don’t like the song then flip it to Z103 or to Q104 or whatever. My car is from 2003 and it has 6 stations I can pre-​program. I just can’t see how anyone can dislike a radio station becuase they do not like an artist they play. Flip the channel.

Oh dear. Everyone has their own flavour, but my own reaction to 101.3 The Bounce includes a nervous twitch and a broken record mindset of Lady Gaga remixes.
While I choose not to tune in, it seems impossible to escape The Bounce’s obnoxious tendencies. Whether its walking by its beat thrusting quarters, or its company vehicle parked on the street, this station is adamant on pumping out the tunes– full force– for everyone to hear.
I was walking along Brunswick Street one day– at about 5 in the evening– and came to pass The Bounce Mobile parked along the street, and blasting heavy base beats with obscene lyrics. I’m no ninny– I can handle a little raw. You know? No biggie… but this was just completely uncalled for. I imagine a family walking past with young kiddies, and it would be unsettling. Dirty, profane and inappropriate for the daylight hours on Brunswick Street. I may sound like my mother, but it was just nasty and not in good taste.
I appreciate the fact that everyone has their own idea of good vibrations, but The Bounce needs to chill. Not everyone is into this pop 101, especially the smutty lyrics at 5pm during a downtown jaunt. Perhaps they can find other ways to promote their station rather than force feeding.

I’m a small dose fan of The Bounce, you know, like crack — good for 10 minutes of serious fun but then it all goes down hill.
I think people are being too hard on this obnoxious station. Let’s tune-​in friends, why don’t we?

I don’t know about you, but that’s about twelve minutes of grand entertainment.
So, the DJs are über sucky. The songs play on repeat like someone with a memory lapse problem repeating their stories, and a lot of it is crappy. BUT, silver lining — if you want a boost of energy while you’re at work, or perhaps you’re cruising in your parents mini-​van and you want to feel the beat — this is a great radio station to tune-​in to.
I advise you change the dial as soon as one of the hosts starts to chat, but other than that, smooth sailing. Hey, Down with Webster just came on… some say, «awful,» I say, «awfully good.»

Another awful new edition to the Halifax radio landscape. The Bounce is boring and plays an incredibly limited number of songs.
Why is it so difficult for a radio station to be interesting? To play some songs that you may not have heard before? I’m not suggesting they change format, there are plenty of great pop songs out there that are tragically under appreciated.
Listen, I love Lady Gaga as much as the next guy (ok, maybe a little more than the next guy), but how many times do you need to play Bad Romance on your radio station in the course of a day? It’s overkill and makes no sense to me.
The bottom line is that the Bounce offers absolutely nothing to the radio problem in Halifax. The playlist is lazy, the content is unoriginal, nothing stands out and nothing here is worth your time.
There is a song by Autograph called, «Turn up the Radio.» If the boys in Autograph ever listened the The Bounce I’m sure they would be singing a different tune.

The Bounce is one of Halifax’s newer radio stations.
On the plus side, the station plays great music — only the latest of the catchiest tunes including R&B, Hip Hop and Dance with artists like Beyonce and the Black Eyed Peas.
One the downside, they seem to only have 30 different songs that they continuously shuffle throughout the day. So while the station may be great to listen to in the car or on break, it becomes almost torturous to listen to for a full day at work or home after hearing the same song 5 times in one day.
