I stumbled upon this festival when I was meeting my supervisor at the Chemistry building. The festival is a cute setup in front of the UBC Bookstore. They have a live band, some tables to sit around, and lots of baked goods. You could get blueberry muffins, scones, pancakes, tarts, and even a small green salad with blueberry dressing. You can also buy fresh blueberries. Prices were really reasonable(I won’t post them since another reviewer did so). They even take credit and debit cards! I ended up buying two blueberry-orange scones, which cost $ 1.25 each. I went right at closing time(1pm) but they still let me make my purchase. The scone was a bit small, but it was very good and the blueberries were awesome(which you’d expect since it is the blueberry festival). I wouldn’t go out of my way to come to UBC for this, but if you’re on campus you should check it out.

I went to this UBC Blueberry Festival at the UBC Bookstore Plaza today and was surprised how small it was. Although I imagined it to be much bigger, it was still very nice, small event where you can grab a quick bite to eat in-between classes or if you happen to be on campus. Perhaps not worth a special trip just to check out. Atmosphere: There was live music, a few tents serving food and 4 or 5 tables with chairs for seating.(directly outside the UBC bookstore) Food: The pancakes were served hot and fresh with delicious blueberry sauce. Butter and maple syrup was also available. There were also many desserts available including: Muffins, Polenta Cakes, Crisps and Tarts. Price: –2 Pancakes @$ 2.00 –2 Pancakes with coffee @$ 2.50 –Muffins @$ 1.25 –Polenta Cake @$ 2.00 –Other desserts $ 2++ –Or you could get 6 desserts for $ 7 –Blueberry Parfait @$ 4 – 5 The Polenta Cakes were a little smushy and overall the muffins were small(but I think it’s because I’m just to the large muffins from Whole Foods and JJ Bean). The pancakes were very soft, served hot and the blueberry sauce was delicious. Bulk Blueberries were also available for sale @$ 6 for 2lbs, $ 8.50 for 3lbs, $ 30 for 10lbs, $ 55 for 20lbs. FYI-The growers mentioned that the blueberries aren’t sprayed but the soiled is sprayed(they didn’t specify with what). They also accepted Visa/Debit onsite so it’s great if you don’t have cash on hand and wanted some pancakes — BUT it was cash only for the bulk blueberries. This year’s event is from Tues, July 19-Sat, July 23 from 9am-1pm. They have a live band every day and Saturday is family day with face painting and balloon art.

Good price for fresh blueberries, but I know where I can find them cheaper around town – locally grown, fresh berries. The baked goods were sold out by the time I got there this year. But last year the parfait was delicious! However, it’s nothing I can’t make at home… all of it. But still it’s a fun thing UBC Food Services does once a year. This year they even had a band play!

This is the second year that UBC Food Services is putting on the weeklong Blueberry Festival. For a mere $ 2.50 you can get fresh blueberry pancakes and a coffee, $ 4.50 gets you 2 blueberry blintzes, and then they offer a blueberry parfait, blueberry polenta cake(TODIEFOR and chock full of berries), muffins, scones and other baked goods. The hot food is made fresh — go early though because they sell out fast and the line will be ridiculously long. You can also by a pound of local blueberries for $ 2.25(larger containers might show up later this week). The pancakes are pretty good(seriously, for $ 2 you can’t lose) — if you find yourself on campus, stop by the bookstore for breakfast because it’s a) cheap b) fresh c) full of antioxidants.
