Smoke On The Water BBQ Shack specializes in traditional Southern BBQ fare: smoked chicken, brisket, and pulled pork sandwiches. We also offer many other classic side dishes with a West-Coast twist including Cowboy Beans, Panko-Fried Mac & Cheese, and Cabbage and Kale Slaw.

Established in 2014.
Do you really enjoy good quality food – especially great barbeque? So do we, that’s what inspired owner Chris Van Nus to travel down south to discover how real, classic barbecue is done. We mean waaay down south – all the way to Arkansas to study with Conrad Haskins, World champion Pit-master. Now, Chris is able to bring you the true taste of the south right here in beautiful Gibsons, BC – situated on the Sunshine Coast, just an hour from Vancouver.

I have worked in the hotel and restaurant business for over 30 years, always striving to offer the best customer experience I can. Two years ago, my wife Karen and I got married in a little town on the Sunshine Coast outside of Vancouver BC called Gibsons. When we decided to start our own business, we decided to set up shop here.
I have always worked in fine dining and wanted to see if I could bring that knowledge and commitment to casual dining. That is how Smoke on the Water BBQ Shack came into being. We use an Olé Hickory Smoker that uses Real Hardwood and smoke our meat daily to offer some of the best examples of BBQ north of the 49th Parralell. We let the quality of the meat do the talking, only using sauce as an accent, not to cover the intrinsic smoked flavour of our free range, hormone free meats.
