What a great surprise! Everything we had was top notch. Don’t be afraid of the menu. The server was extremely helpful and was a great spot! German food at it’s best!

Located in center of Gananoque, there is this Hungarian restaurant. Appears to be a family run business. Décor wise its a bit dated. Walking in I wasn’t sure if I had to wait to be seated or seat myself(you seat yourself). They have these signs for Czech cechvar beer but they don’t have it on tap. Foodwise I was definitely satisfied. Most dishes come with rotated potatoes or spetzle(think pasta size of a teardrop), though I did not eat the spetzle, the potatoes were delicious. Tried the schnitzel, it was large, looked freshly made and it treated delicious. Also got the polish sausage and bratwurst main, and while it looked a bit incomplete, how many ways could you really serve two sausages? Really how can you go wrong with pork cutlet and sausage? And here it definitely tasted delicious! They also have a variety of variations, curry on top, mushroom sauce on top. But stick with the standard unless you know exactly what you’re getting. The service was friendly and helpful. They gave a patio between building. Probably not much to look at while there but it’s nice to be outside.

Cozy place w plenty of tables and warm service. Rahm snitzel with spaetzel with mushroom sauce and a paprika like seasoning on the spaetzel(crispy breaded thin pork cutlet w homemade pasta) was delicious and large enough to split between 2 people with sides of salad or a delicous vegetable/sausage soup. Warm apple strudel is better than most. More apples and some raisins vs dough.

I ordered fish and chips at this place. Well they were horrible. Dry, dry frozen garbage. I took my first bite and realized I had made an awful mistake. The waitress picked up my empty plate and never asked why I didn’t eat more than one bite of fish or one bite of the«chips». When I asked her why she didn’t even ask why I didn’t eat my dinner, I had to ask her if she wasn’t even curious. She said OK, what is the issue. I told her the fish was dry and asked if the«chips» didn’t come from a frozen bag as well as the fish and she said yes. This was sold to me as a gourmet restaurant. Frozen pre breaded fish and frozen French fries out of a commercial sack is not my idea of gourmet. I assumed I would be offered another something to eat or at least some sort of adjustment on the bill. NOTHING. When I asked the manager why, he said that was my problem, there was nothing wrong with the food. As. Visitor from outside Canada, I was unsure what the ramifications would be of not paying for at least my bill. Again as a visitor to the country, I didn’t wish to create a scene, though I deserved better treatment. The manager could have cared less. I let him know he should be ashamed of himself for treating visitors or anyone for that matter in such a fashion. He understood that I am not a big loss for him as a visitor. He knows I will never be back, but I’m on a mission to see that NOBODYEVERGETSBURNEDTHEWAY I DID. If you want to do yourself a real favor, STAYAWAY. Save money and frustration. I went as I read the revues. Usually right on. I know that restaurants face issues. I know that they can make a mistake as well as I can. ITISN’T THEPROBLEMTHAT’S THEPROBLEM, IT’S HOWYOUHANDLETHEPROBLEM. This restaurant was willing to throw away it’s reputation on a $ 10.00 order of, and I really use the term loosely, fish and chips. My meal was the least expensive at the table. Be smart, save your money and GOSOMEWHEREELSEANDENJOYYOURMEAL.

On vacation in the area so decided to try this spot, and was not disappointed at all. Can’t say I’ve ever tried Czech food before, so that in itself was fun. There were a bunch of non-Czech menu items, but given the other reviews, I decided to go for the Goulash and the Czech schnitzel(shared with my date). Both were great. The borsch(t) — spelled without a T in Czech was also really nice. Add a large Czech beer to the meal and you are doing fine. I would definitely recommend for fans of stick-to-your ribs, comfort food.

Great reubens! We had lunch here the other day, and it was really quite good. Friendly staff, quick service, good prices, and really great food. We had reubens, soup, salad, and a dessert; all were quite delicious. They also serve some great beer that is brewed right around the corner. Definitely recommended.

Was passing they town and took the recommendations on Unilocal. With only 2 tables on a end of May Wednesday, I found the service super slow. I ordered the tomato/onion salad for $ 6.95 and was surprised how small it was. It didn’t even amount to a small hothouse tomato from the grocery store. I ordered the Prague Schnitzel which is topped with a fried egg(sunny side up) and bacon and Spaetzle. Was to sure about the combination. Let me tell you, it was awesome! To bad about the salad and slow service. So don’t order the salad and good food takes time. You should try it. Oh, try the Czechvar beer.

Schnitzel a dozen ways, sausages, spaetzel and borsch. With my polish heritage, I felt right at home. Good solid food and good beer on tap. If you enjoy this, try My Place in Smiths Falls also.

Terrific Czec/German food. Great service, nice location. Don’t let the name/signage fool you into thinking this is some«heat-n-serve» shrimp-basket place. This is a little slice of Bavaria within walking distance from the Gananoque marina. The spaetzle is AMAZINGLYGOOD. And try the Gypsy Schnitzel.

How many times have you found yourself in Gananoque and asked yourself, «Where can I find myself a great schnitzel? I wish I could have one.» Well, wish no further. The Maple Leaf will save you. Though named the Maple Leaf, the motif of wooden tables, chairs, and booths in the front of the house gives it a slightly European feel. Which is probably a good thing since the owners are from Prague. A family-run business for sure, you are able to taste freshness in the food on offer. Though Canadian favourites do appear on the menu, it is the European dishes where the Maple Leaf truly shines. The schnitzel in particular is as good if not better as you’ll find in some of the more staunch European neighbourhoods in Toronto. On days when the goulash is available, pounce at the opportunity. Done as a special, it truly lives up to the title, a dark richness in both texture and taste. The meals can all be complimented with a decent dessert menu if there’s room for dessert. There usually is not when I go. Seriously, schnitzel in Gananoque. Who knew?
