Was a dominion years ago before becoming a food basics. Has been a staple of the area especially since the local loblaws shut down a few years ago. Had some competition with some recent Asian supermarkets and walkways opening up around the area… but from a location perspective it is perfectively positioned for a pretty dense population area. I don’t know much about grocery shopping but they always have the chocolate ice cream bars my family likes so they are a-ok for me !

This Food Basics is always super busy and crowded, especially on weekends. it’s best to go weeknights when there are not as many people there. The prices are super cheap — you can find everything here for much lower than a Loblaw or Sobeys. This is especially the case with packaged foods(your chips, yogurt, orange juice, etc.). However, there is not a lot of selection — you’re out of luck if you’re trying to find something gourmet or organic or anything else. Fruit and veg is not of great quality — I find things are always super underripe and a little bit tasteless. Sometimes you do luck out if there is a special on specific fruits and vegetables and they are shipping in a lot of it in daily. I’m always a little bit wary on the meat selection. Either it’s frozen, or it’s in a suspicious looking package that looks thoroughly unappetizing. There is no butcher(or at least one that is apparent) at the store which further adds to my lack of confidence. I do like how they have catered their merchandise to the local ethnic communities — great if you need to find tahini or some cheap chickpeas or some jerk spice. Lastly, be really, really careful in the parking lot. Terrible visibility, badly organized, and a ton of crazy drivers. Bottom line: if you need your basics cheap, come here.
