This is a review specifically about the Grand Opening that happened today at their new location in the mall. I dragged my boyfriend here early this morning to line up for their Grand Opening and thus be one of the first 100 people in line to get a gift card worth up to $ 100 each. We actually got to the mall at 7:30am and parked upstairs the 137 Ave entrance. When we walked up to Winners mall entrance, it was closed and I didn’t see anyone around — I wasn’t sure if we were just the first people there or if there was another entrance. Seeing no signage, we waited outside that entrance and started feeling suspicious when no other people were lining up. We eventually called out to a staff member who was working inside who informed us the line up was outside of the building at the other entrance.(Would’ve been nice if they had signage up to inform us of same). So, we walked all the way round to the exits and out the mall and saw maybe 25 people in line ahead of us already. No biggie. But it was cold this morning — the wind was brisk and a lot of people(us included) were not dressed to stand outside for another 1.5 hours when we had anticipated waiting in the mall instead. Needless to say the wait was long, cold and uneventful. By the time 8:45am rolled around, we were downright freezing and the line was well over 100 people long(with many only just arriving within the past 20 min) and that’s when a Winners employee finally came out with a basket of gift cards for us to blindly choose from — with cards ranging from $ 10 — $ 100. We were told there was only 1 — $ 100 card in the lot. So much for the long wait for a measly $ 20 gift card each? I would’ve been better off staying home and sleeping in my warm bed instead of making our way there from downtown just for the big event. To make matters worse, I saw someone bring more gift cards to add to the basket, which, i’m assuming was to appease the extra people who had just come to the line up which now stretched more than 100 persons long. Wow! We so we really could’ve showed up 15 minutes before opening and still received a gift card. So much for advertising«the first 100 people in line» would receive a gift card, since it didn’t matter in the end. Anyways, once we got our card, my boyfriend and I were too cold to stand in line any longer, so we decided to head back inside and wait at the other entrance inside the mall, where it’s warm. We got there and waited(yet again) with a bunch of people who had also congregated at those doors, and about 5 min later, an employee of Winners came to the entrance to inform us that these doors wouln’t be opening until 10am and we had to use the outside entrance to get back in. Frustrated, my boyfriend and I debated leaving, but figured since we were there we’d walk back around and outside again, only to see that the lineup had not budged as was even longer now, stretching a long ways down the side of the building. So we gave up, frustrated, and left never even having a chance to see inside the store. Why couldn’t management just put up some signs inside the mall entrnance to let customers know where they should line up and what time doors opened for each side? Had we known that off the bat, we would’ve stayed in line instead of walking back and forth and back and forth yet again. And I’m sure all the other people who were waiting inside the mall at various times also would’ve loved the same information as I saw a bunch of annoyed people walking in our direction to get out to the other doors, while we were walking towards them to leave.

I am not a big Winners fan but of all the stores in the city I find the Londonderry location the easiest to shop in. You wont find the same amount of clothing stock here that you find in City Center and WEM but a big advantage of that is you have far less odd out of fashion items to have to sort through before getting to the good stuff. The housewares and knick knack selection seems pretty standard to what you would find at other locations. The staff are pretty friendly and the store is tidy and well organized. I will never be a regular shopper but I don’t mind it if im in the mall and have some time to kill.

It’s a «high end» discount retailer. Stock is much the same between one winners to another. Assorted clothing items for all ages, household goodies and home décor abound and constantly change. Right now it’s filling up with sweet Halloween goodness so I’ll be browsing more often! Staff is there if you have questions or are on a mission to find a specific item, check out is streamlined and very efficient with one giant queue for all. Overall a bargain hunters paradise

Here’s the deal with Winners: there’s a whole lot of crappy, irregular, odd, rejected clothing, but amongst the crappiness there are definitely some awesome items. I got my very first pair of Converse All Star sneakers here for half the price they’d be in another store, and I also got my second pair here for a steal of a deal as well. I’ve found a few nice shirts and some really nice pants. A lot of the dress pants will say«dry clean only.» I’ve washed and dried both pairs that I bought and nothing happened to them – is this dry clean warning really a big conspiracy? I get lots of socks and underwear at Winners too, Last time, I found this amazing pair that had a comic strip pattern all over it with a hot pink trim! But why does the underwear rack have to be right by the change rooms? There’s a chair right in front of it, and half the time there’s a guy sitting there waiting for his girlfriend, and I just get a little embarrassed of someone watching me go through underwear. For some reason, I’m okay with broadcasting the type of undies I like all over Unilocal – makes total sense, I know. The housewares section is also worth checking out at Winners. There’s some great deals on otherwise expensive brand-name stuff like pots and pans. I’ve seen some really unique items like pink kettles and knights in armour statues. The styles of everything at Winners really varies from really conservative to very funky, so I think practically anyone can come here and possibly find something they’ll love.
